Title: RSQ number 47, the revenge of the hippo-whale
Post by: ItsMrAlex2u on March 02, 2011, 06:48:59 PM
Ok you lousy bunch of stitch up merchants. You forced me to win through some extremely questionable QM'ing and although Tighty could have saved me at the end with his knowledge of hitler and red heads he chose not to (or the QM wasnt listening, I am not sure).

Any-who, onto the next phase of farce.

You asked for it.....

Rules n stuff:
1) No fecking googling. If I even suspect googling then expect to be failed. So pick out an obscure answer at your peril.
2) Refer to rule number 1
3) Answers to me by 7pm Monday 7th
4) Reveal 8pm Tuesday 8th
5) Incorrect answers will get the highest score + 5
6) You must pass on 1 question - you shouldnt actually need the pass as all questions should be answerable but use the fecker anyway. Tactics may come into play here
7) Be warned, I will be looking for any excuse for failures. I may accept marginal spelliing mistakes but any hint of an excuse for failing your answer then expect to feel the full force of FAIL

Questions .....

OK, you know the deal, PM's please with answers on a seperate line and numbered, blah blah blah.

You may recognise 1 or 2. Note that what may once have been a fail may not always be a fail....

Knock yourselves out

1.   Name a hotel on the Las Vegas Strip
2.   Name one of the venues from the first year of the EPT
3.   Name one of the items representing a wedding anniversary from one of the first 20 years of marriage
4.   Name a type of shark
5.   Name something you wear around your neck
6.   Name one of the top ten worlds deadliest animals
7.   Name a slang term for a females “chest region”
8.   Name an animal with horns
9.   Name an animal used as a form of transport
10.   Name a common type of allergy
11.   Name a famous Parisian landmark
12.   Name a common food item that has a hole or holes in it

Have a nice day :-)

Good questions. All guessable. For that reason, I'm in.

I've even just googled my dubious guess (Q2) and I got that right. Probably be the sheep, based on past form, but hey-ho.

And as usual, I won't be around for the reveal until around 11:30pm. Feel free to do a Laxie and I might be back for about Q4.

Good luck!

1.   Name a hotel on the Las Vegas Strip - Luxor

3.   Name one of the items representing a wedding anniversary from one of the first 20 years of marriage, Suicidal!!! We've had this before and there Traditional and Modern lists. Being old fashioned and innumerate, I will go for Paper (1st)
4.   Name a type of shark - Tiger
5.   Name something you wear around your neck - idzila --- ok showing off here, maybe the only reason I'm playing.
6.   Name one of the top ten worlds deadliest animals - PASS
7.   Name a slang term for a females “chest region” - jugs
8.   Name an animal with horns - impala
9.   Name an animal used as a form of transport - Llama
10.   Name a common type of allergy - Penicillan
11.   Name a famous Parisian landmark - Pere Lachaise graveyard
12.   Name a common food item that has a hole or holes in it - crumpets

Would it matter if either are fails....?

if you try to fail either of those you'll surpass laxie in the worst QM ever stakes.

anyway, we should be allowed to change our answers now we've seen Robert's as it puts late comers at an unfair advantage.

Of course the downside to that is that Robert will probably then win as he'll have a bunch of aces.  I'm not sure that is a downside and might be fitting punishment!

Hello, good evening and welcome.

May I remind you of a couple of points before we farce.

“You must pass on 1 question”
5 point penalty for starters for Longines and The Crow, wp.

“Be warned, I will be looking for any excuse for failures. I may accept marginal spelling mistakes but any hint of an excuse for failing your answer then expect to feel the full force of FAIL”
Some of the questions were left deliberately open to a bit of interpretation – but if your interpretation was different to mine – guess what – FAIL

There are 29 entrants and 76 fails I think. GL with trying to get those over turned….

I have allowed Mondatoo as a late entry. I may regret this as it has meant rushed amendments to the spreadsheet. If it goes wrong I might just make him win.

If you are expecting pictures – Forget it
If you are expecting even readable formatting – Forget it

This can only go well.

I expect a good clean quiz, no kidney punches, no rabbit punches and no punches below the belt.

Reveal at 8pm.....

Connection was rubbish using the tethered phone method.  Well, it was grand if ya don't need the speed of posting RSQ objections on a Tuesday night.  But as I need connection AND speed, I've just nicked Bridget's dongle off her.  Sorted all around.  wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

Polar bears are the largest carnivores on land; they eat ringed seals for breakfast but will settle for a young walrus or beluga whale. They’ve been known to kill humans who venture too close. Like black bears and grizzlies, its starvation that makes them dangerous. A smack from one of their paws can rip your fucking  head right off.

ergo - fucking dangerous top 5 IMO

GFY

Based on human death count or summit

Polar bears are the largest carnivores on land; they eat ringed seals for breakfast but will settle for a young walrus or beluga whale. They’ve been known to kill humans who venture too close. Like black bears and grizzlies, its starvation that makes them dangerous. A smack from one of their paws can rip your fucking  head right off.

ergo - fucking dangerous top 5 IMO

They dont kill many people though, ergo, not fookin dangerous unless you happen to go and kick one in the nads

The fact that they live in the fecking Arctic might have something to do with that - but may I ask was that your criteria - killing humans, if it was then demented slugs might creep into the list....

THIS!!!

Fail plssssss

Antlers are branching bony appendages that are shed annually. All male cervids , like moose, deer and elk have antlers. Only caribou and reindeer have females with antlers, though much smaller than their male counterparts. When they grow, they are covered in a thin fuzzy skin covering called "velvet" which contains blood supply to help the antlers grow. This skin covering is shed before rutting season.

Horns are a pointed projection of skin and hair of an animal, consisting of a layer of keratin surrounding a living bone core. Animals that have horns include all those in the family Bovidae (bovines, sheep, goats and antelope). Horns usually have a spiral or curved shape, with ridges or fluting. Horns begin growth soon after birth, and continue growth until the animal dies. They never fall off every year, except in pronghorns, where they shed the outer shell every year, but retain the inner bony core. Only the males of most species of Bovidae have horns, except those of the bovine genus including bison, buffalo, gnu and domestic cattle.

wtf are antlers if they are not horns.

and - in evidence:

The name rein (-deer) is of Norse origin (Old Norse hreinn, which again goes back to Proto-Germanic *hraina and Proto-Indo-European *kroino meaning "horned animal"

Size perspective maybe

If goat and mountain goat are whales then so is horse and shire horse

Shish kebabs is closest to being acceptable due to a hole made by a skewer I suppose... under consideration

Honeycomb is made up of a series of hexagonal compartments, it does not have a hole in

Crumpets have indentations, doesnt have a hole in

Objection to Shish Kebab, Crumpet and Honeycomb.

Shish kebabs is closest to being acceptable due to a hole made by a skewer I suppose... under consideration

Honeycomb is made up of a series of hexagonal compartments, it does not have a hole in

Crumpets have indentations, doesnt have a hole in

Sigh. So, so sad.

Did you see the feckin picture I posted.

Tell me how that is "a series of hexagonal compartments".

Honeycomb is in a crunchie bar.

I am currently on holiday in Italy. This has ruined the whole trip.

How is Catacombs a fail? Did they give that to America too?

Its feckin underground

See number 4.

http://www.thefreedictionary.com/landmark

or number 3.

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/landmark

In the interests of your holiday, and because i have lost the will to live, you can have catacombs.
Minus 7 from your score

[ ] It makes a difference

Happy holidays !

Wow. Just wow.

That was so epicly bad. Words cannot describe some of the completely bizzare and random decisions that were made there. I'm not entirely sure the QM lives in the same world as the rest of us.

I look forward to TightEnd reading this. I said he was one of the worlds top 10 deadliest animals. You are soon going to find out why.

Girgy has been informed that his membership of blonde depends on him running next week's quiz. Hopefully he sees sense.

What a complete disgrace. I though it could not get worse than Jon MW, then came Laxie part one, then Delboy, then Laxie Part 2

Laxie Part 2 saw RSQ descend to such depths that no format could recover. Ever

Alex merely confirms this.

Over 6m cases of Crunchies are shipped ever year and not one fucker who eats one gives a toss as to whether the honeycomb that produces those lovely holes inside the chocolate has holes than go all the way through the food

What the complete fucking hell mind process is that QM?

Take a look

Holes. Lots  and lots of holes in a food. You fail Honeycomb. Therefore I don't win

Well that's marvellous.

I haven't even read back for the other questions yet

Who won? Trip5. Who has since sent me an assortment of messages on various social media accusing me of stitching her up.

No Irene I wouldn't stitch you up as I want to win these things. Its the only way I can guarantee not wanting to self harm with a stocking over my head, half an orange in my mouth and the Amsterdam guide to self asphyxiation perched in front of me, stuck open with two clothes pegs at the requisite page

So, I better not read the rest of the thread. I think I might not bear up under the strain

If not, oh well, to quite Laxie "Tough Beans"

And as for food, I was looking for items with holes all he way through them. Interpretation fail for trying to be clever. Re-read the rules for the liklehood of fails

Fair enough. Grand Arche de La Defense would have been a better answer.

Bovvered. Mid-table mediocrity again. Getting good at that :).

I couldn't even be arsed to complain about the Lace fail. I'll leave that to Laxie.
