No I would like the semis to be played at neutral venues, which are roughly equidistant to the competing sides.

Playing at Wembley should be left to the final of competitions.

I would be surprised if Bolton vs Stoke is close to selling out at Wembley.

couldnt agree with this more.

Wembley is supposed to be special, next they will be playing the quarters there...

total joke.

You don't think playing a semi is a nice experience for the players and fans to get?  I think it would be for lower division teams and even the likes of Stoke and Bolton won't experience it that often.   I'd have thought the fans would love a day out at Wembley.  I don't see it as a bad thing necessarily.

Plus the FA needs the money init, Wembley cost a few quid

the reason wembley is special is because it only used to be finals.  it completely de-values the stadium imo.

If leeds were in the semi's i would much prefer to go to Old Trafford/Villa Park etc even if it meant less tickets.  At wembley you lose loads to corporate anyway its not like you get 40k for each team.

pretty sure wembley is equidistant from manchester and errrm, manchester

and not far from being equidistant from bolton and stoke

semis have been held at wembley for 20 years now, it ain't going to change

have they, 20 years?  are you sure?

you used some big words so i dont understand them.

I thought semi-finals were at neutral grounds near where the teams playing were from up until a few years ago.

It's not quite 20 years.  It was only 1999 when we lost to Ryan Giggs at Villa Park

93 was the first all northern semi at wembley, sheffields utd and weds

1) A semi played between two teams from the same city is pretty rare but hosting it 200 miles away seems like the best resolution apparantly. If you want to nit pick Old Trafford isn't actually in Manchester anyway.

2) The City of Manchester Stadium is a perfect venue for the Bolton Stoke semi. Right size, right distance and not at the Wembley which should be left for finals imo.

3) The FA have a completely inconsistent policy to hosting semi finals of the FA cup over the last 20 years is true.

WTF is Gatso talking about, I'm quite surprised at the bs. Semi's never used to be at Wembley, we played Spurs in Semi in 99' at OT ?? Everyone knows it's because Wembley cost a fortune so they desperately want to claw the money back. It is a disgrace and it does devalue the competition and I'm not even sure how that's defendable or debatable.

20 years at Wembley.  First ones I can remember were when Sheff Utd and Sheff Weds played and the other semi was a North London derby so that was a legit use as it guaranteed tickets for both sets of fans but as a matter of course it has only been used in the last few years (since they moved back to Wembley?) Can anyone really justify using it for Stoke-Bolton or such like when Old Trafford would be perfect for the use and save both sets of fans money.

actually it is. that's been an urban myth for as long as I can remember but it's very much in greater manchester

Greater Manchester and the city of Manchester are very different things.

It is like saying Peterborough is in Cambridge or Newark is in Nottingham.

or your way is like claiming that no london clubs are in london because they're in greater london and not the city of london

admittedly my way does put bolton, wigan and bury in manchester but I'm happy with that as they're all the same to southerners anyway

Both semi's will sell out IMO. The FA have a contract with Wembley to say that the semi's must be played there for x amount of years since the re-build.

Apologies if this has been stated ITT already.

Tks Chip, from a nit point of view OT will be better for us.

iirc Bolton failed to sell out for playoff finals and the semi vs Villa in 2000 at Wembley in the past. They simply don't have the floating support to add to the hardcore supporters they have.

People justifying the semi's being at Wembley..lol

You don't reward teams a day out for reaching the semi's becasue lets be right its nothing to do with that, its about squeezing money out of supporters weather is better for them or not.

fwiw I'm not trying to justify it, just think people may as well accept it as that's the way it's gonna stay and at least it's wembley so it's an experience and a day out. could be worse and they make all 4 teams come down and play at selhurst park

I'd prefer them to be somewhere local to the teams but it's not going to happen

Now Arsene Wenger has something else to moan about - not getting the other clubs to agree a saver for the losing quarter-finalists.

Regrettably the semi finals will be at wembley for the longterm future.

The stadium very few of us wanted, in a location even less of us would have chosen brought with it a bill that nobody can afford to pay...

So we're stuck with that. But are we also now stuck with the draw for the following round being made before the current round has even had a chance to be complete?

Takes away a lot of the magic imo and potentially damaged Reading's chances yesterday when Citeh were given even more incentive to win.
