Title: I-Phone - Water - arghhhhh
Post by: Waz1892 on March 15, 2011, 04:28:22 PM
My missus i-Phone has just become wet through my daughter water bottle leaking.  quite a bit of water was on it, and when she shook the phone it dripped from the sides and bottom.

Any advice?  At the mo we've turned it off and it's in the Airing Cupboard.

Is it Fooked?

Happened to me, left it in a bowl of UNCOOKED rice for 24hrs with the sim + sim holder out.

Then left it in front of a fan for 24hrs.

Worked fine after that

Rice?  how does that make a difference?  Aborsbs the water?  Off to shop to buy some if so?

I'm now the "proud" owner of a bowl of rice covered in the airing cupboard.

Fingers crossed!

Appreicate the help.

I think a fan is better than the airing cupboard as the heat will just cause condensation

insurance?

I didnt take the extra out, and the basic T&c's state not covered for Water Damage!

I have taken extra insurance through Natwest (Which is FoC) for this phone and my son's phone so I'll have a look at that policy if need be.

good point - maybe too late that to change that now, but see what happens.

Glad its fixed... Just so you know for future...

I took my iPhone to the Apple shop to get it replaced because the wireless was not working.  The agent at the desk assigned to me, was checking my handset, he took a small torch and shone it into the little hole that is the headphone jack plug.  I asked him what he was doing.  He told me he was checking if my phone had been in water.  How do you know that, I asked him...  He told me and showed me that there is a water indicator inside there..  And if it changes colour, I dont get my handset replaced..!!!

So, even thought yours is now dry, that indicator will have changed colour and any future warranty claims might be knocked back..

Yes, most phones have a 'water-damaged' indicator, and it's one of the first things the shop/manufacturer will check to see if you've invalidated the warranty.  It can be triggered from having the phone in a bathroom or other humid conditions.

Glad your phone is OK - removing the battery immediately is the key, the water itself doesn't necessarily damage the phone, unless it's in there for ages and rusts components.  The biggest danger (same if you spill a cuppa on your laptop) is the water short-circuiting the appliance and that doing the damage.  So dry it out (using rice or whatever!) and don't reinsert the battery until it's completely dried out.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S... Had an iphone for 2 years... Yes its fine, but when your battery packs in, very costly to replace as you cant get to it.  Someone has to do it for ya...  When you want an application, you have to get it off apple, and if you dont like that, and want something else, different, then you need to jailbreak the handset, and then apple dont like yer and you cant have apple updates...

Android..  Sort of very close in terms of look.. Has a similar app for getting apps, but if you re on a random website and see an android app by them, just get it and dont have to go thru itunes...  Last week, on a website, i said i wanted an app, my phone was not evern attached to the pc, but the pc was logged onto gmail, so it knew me and sent it over the 3g network and installed it, no trouble, no breaking rules or law..  just simplesss...!!  much more open and usable...

But sayign that, if you are happy with an iPhone, be hppy..!!
