Title: Highly speculative Cheltenham bet ! Post by: Karabiner on December 31, 2005, 10:46:11 AM The Listener runs in The Dipper 'chase at Cheltenham tomorrow for which he will be a short(odds-on) favourite.
This is IMO the most talented novice 'chaser to emerge since my all time favourite horse, One Man. If I owned him, I would be thinking seriously about having a tilt at the Gold Cup this year. I know it sounds a little far fetched, but looking at the Gold Cup field I don't see too much with real class apart from Kicking King, and he has not really shown last year's level of form. The rest are not much better than good handicappers and if the going for the festival were to come up good to soft (a bit of a longshhot in itself) I would be very tempted to go for the Gold Cup itself rather than the Sun Alliance 'chase (the novice's equivalent). So hoping for favourable going, a fit horse and owners with the same idea as me I have made a speculative wager. The Listener to win the Cheltenham Gold Cup 2006. I managed to get just over 400/1 on Betfair, so my £15 investment would net me a tidy £6k. Go on my cocker ! ;goodluck; Title: Re: Highly speculative Cheltenham bet ! Post by: smithy69 on December 31, 2005, 11:14:50 AM good luck mate, it is indeed a very good horse but the ground wont come right for it at cheltenham.
if it wins tomoz it will shorten for everything, so ya could green out hopefully connections will say after the race that the gold cup is a possibility and the odds will come crashing down, so you can green out for more. here's hoping Title: Re: Highly speculative Cheltenham bet ! Post by: Graham C on December 31, 2005, 11:56:59 AM Listener is at 110 now on BF. Ive had a couple of quid on it for the gold cup and hopefully will be able to trade off after tomorrows race
Cheers for the heads up on it :) Title: Re: Highly speculative Cheltenham bet ! Post by: Robert HM on January 01, 2006, 01:43:10 AM you can get 120 on betfair now
Title: Re: Highly speculative Cheltenham bet ! Post by: Dewi_cool on January 01, 2006, 01:50:40 AM 65/1 now
Title: Re: Highly speculative Cheltenham bet ! Post by: Graham C on January 01, 2006, 05:45:06 PM is it likely to be entered for the gold cup do you think?
Nice win today cheers :) Title: Re: Highly speculative Cheltenham bet ! Post by: Karabiner on January 01, 2006, 05:56:20 PM Hard to say Silo, I would imagine that he would hold an entry for the GC even as a precaution.
He was not as spectacular today as in his last race, but he was giving the 2nd and 3rd horses a stone each ! The ground was described as "horrible" by the jockey which would not have helped. Fingers crossed and await developments. PS I laid a bit @ 70 so I now have a bet of £5k+ to £1.50 :D Title: Re: Highly speculative Cheltenham bet ! Post by: Robert HM on January 01, 2006, 06:19:54 PM Where can you lay at 70?
BF have only 340 on offer Title: Re: Highly speculative Cheltenham bet ! Post by: Karabiner on January 01, 2006, 07:21:02 PM That was before the race Rob, it was laid as low as 50.
You've got to be on your mettle, the market is moving constantly. ;karabiner; PS If you click on the name of the horse you can see all the trading that has taken place Title: Re: Highly speculative Cheltenham bet ! Post by: Robert HM on January 01, 2006, 07:47:36 PM Thnak you, I think I ought to concentrate more when I am exposed.
Title: Re: Highly speculative Cheltenham bet ! Post by: Dewi_cool on January 01, 2006, 07:48:51 PM I think u need to cover yourself, would not look good in the papers, a brief with no briefs

Title: Re: Highly speculative Cheltenham bet ! Post by: smithy69 on January 02, 2006, 09:08:13 AM looks a good prospect and jumps like a stag, but wont reach the gold cup this year. its back out to 140's on betfair now
but a great type for the future, jocket said it needs 3 miles - def. a future cup horse Title: Re: Highly speculative Cheltenham bet ! Post by: Karabiner on January 02, 2006, 01:48:09 PM Well now, there's been a startling development.
Kicking King has sustained an injury and will not run again this season ! The Cheltenham Gold Cup has been thrown wide open and I'm sure The Listener's connections are aware of this. Title: Re: Highly speculative Cheltenham bet ! Post by: Graham C on January 02, 2006, 03:13:08 PM i hope so, its gone out to 210 now
Title: Re: Highly speculative Cheltenham bet ! Post by: smithy69 on January 02, 2006, 03:29:10 PM i cant imagine they will enter it in all honestly
Title: Re: Highly speculative Cheltenham bet ! Post by: Karabiner on January 02, 2006, 03:50:51 PM We heard you the first time Smithy, and the second, so we now know where you stand.
What I am saying is that if the horse were mine I would be thinking about the Gold Cup this year. Even more so now that Kicking King is out, and not only that, I would win £5k too. Title: Re: Highly speculative Cheltenham bet ! Post by: smithy69 on January 02, 2006, 03:54:08 PM why are you always negative towards me.
i hope your bet comes in but have only said once they wont enter it. Title: Re: Highly speculative Cheltenham bet ! Post by: Karabiner on January 02, 2006, 04:04:17 PM why are you always negative towards me. i hope your bet comes in but have only said once they wont enter it. I suggest you re-read through this thread Smithy. Post 1. You say the ground won't be right for it at Cheltenham Post 2. You say it won't make the Gold Cup this year Post 3. You say that you can't see them entering it for the Gold Cup Now I make that three negative comments in separate posts and you say that I am negative towards you. Title: Re: Highly speculative Cheltenham bet ! Post by: booder on January 02, 2006, 04:05:49 PM looks like rain again...............
Title: Re: Highly speculative Cheltenham bet ! Post by: Robert HM on January 02, 2006, 04:16:37 PM That'll make the going pretty heavy
Title: Re: Highly speculative Cheltenham bet ! Post by: redsimon on January 02, 2006, 04:19:51 PM Which might suit Ralph's horse :D
Title: Re: Highly speculative Cheltenham bet ! Post by: Karabiner on January 02, 2006, 08:52:39 PM I would just like to add that the clue is in the title:
"Highly speculative Cheltenham bet" It's very easy to pick holes in a 400/1 chance, that is why they are 400/1. Title: Re: Highly speculative Cheltenham bet ! Post by: ifm on January 02, 2006, 10:04:31 PM Happy New Year!!

Title: Re: Highly speculative Cheltenham bet ! Post by: tikay on January 02, 2006, 11:58:52 PM We have removed a Post from this thread in which a blondeite was flamed & grossly insulted. That sort of stuff is just not acceptable on blonde, never has been, never will be. The poster was asked to remove it within a short period of time, & failed so to do (maybe because he was offline), so we did it ourselves. Please refrain from making such insulting comments. Debate all day, & all night if you wish, but you do need to keep it civil. We apologise to the recipitent of the insult. Title: Re: Highly speculative Cheltenham bet ! Post by: tikay on January 03, 2006, 12:41:42 AM Moving swiftly on, now to address the "bug" which was referred to. It was discovered, quite by chance, a few months back, that if a Post is edited within 5 minutes of being originally posted, the little "post edited by" message in italics does not appear. We don't really know why this is, & our new Tech boys, who have been brilliant so far in removing little Forum Software glitches, have not worked their way round to this one yet. But, from where I sit, it's more of a curiosity than a problem. Bear with us, we will sort it in due course. Title: Re: Highly speculative Cheltenham bet ! Post by: smithy69 on January 04, 2006, 04:46:15 AM sorry tikay. I was out of order
Title: Re: Highly speculative Cheltenham bet ! Post by: tikay on January 04, 2006, 04:55:25 AM Thanks smithy. It's history now. Title: Re: Highly speculative Cheltenham bet ! I really don't think it's an issue, to be honest. For me, leave well alone. Title: Re: Highly speculative Cheltenham bet ! Post by: Ironside on January 04, 2006, 05:09:27 AM no problem just letting you know it aint a bug its in there cause its written into the software and as easy to remove by replacing 90 with 0 or any lenght of time you want
Title: Re: Highly speculative Cheltenham bet ! Post by: Graham C on January 04, 2006, 10:56:09 AM I see another of the big named horses pulled out of the gold cup yesterday - this makes 3 out now. Perhaps good news for our nag?
Title: Re: Highly speculative Cheltenham bet ! Post by: Karabiner on January 04, 2006, 01:18:53 PM Today is kind of a "judgement day" Silo.
All of the entries for this year's Gold Cup have to be declared today, so let's hope the trainer's put him in. Title: Re: Highly speculative Cheltenham bet ! Post by: Graham C on January 04, 2006, 02:14:01 PM Didnt know that, Ill keep an eye out for the news
Cheers bud Title: Re: Highly speculative Cheltenham bet ! Post by: Robert HM on January 04, 2006, 02:16:04 PM It's now 70 on BF with a, still unattractive lay price of 180. fingers crossed.
Isn't this fun? Title: Re: Highly speculative Cheltenham bet ! Post by: Graham C on January 04, 2006, 02:17:51 PM its a lottery isnt it. I wish Id have taken the £2 extra that was available at 210 the other day though. Still, an entry for the Gold Cup should see me ok :)
Title: Re: Highly speculative Cheltenham bet ! Post by: Robert HM on January 04, 2006, 02:20:49 PM I put £20 into BF as an experiment, I want to see how big, if at all, I can get it to grow. I only backed it for £2 so not huge but it is now almost a matter of honour not to have to reload and I hope to get it to a size where I can mess about in the World Cup Markets
Title: Re: Highly speculative Cheltenham bet ! Post by: Graham C on January 04, 2006, 02:30:49 PM Good luck with it, its good seeing what you can turn money into. There's a guy on the BF forum that does stuff like that - mainly on the footy - gets in and lays off only making a small profit most of the time but money is money eh
Title: Re: Highly speculative Cheltenham bet ! Post by: Karabiner on January 04, 2006, 02:32:39 PM BBC Teletext page 664
"The Listener gets Gold Cup entry due to the open nature of this year's race" says trainer. WOOHOO at least we're in with a shout now ;karabiner; Title: Re: Highly speculative Cheltenham bet ! Post by: Robert HM on January 04, 2006, 02:36:14 PM Thanks Silo and thanks for the info Ralph, looking good
Title: Re: Highly speculative Cheltenham bet ! Post by: Graham C on January 04, 2006, 02:47:41 PM Nice one, cheers for the news Karabiner :)
hasnt affected the price yet Title: Re: Highly speculative Cheltenham bet ! Post by: Robert HM on January 04, 2006, 02:59:32 PM It has, the price has lengthened to 75 lol
Title: Re: Highly speculative Cheltenham bet ! Post by: Karabiner on January 04, 2006, 03:23:46 PM That's probably Rob trying to lay @ 75 :D
Title: Re: Highly speculative Cheltenham bet ! Post by: Robert HM on January 04, 2006, 03:57:41 PM shhhhhh
Title: Re: Highly speculative Cheltenham bet ! Post by: Robert HM on January 11, 2006, 11:20:28 AM Well I managed to grab a lay at 70. Only £2 was on offer but that was all I wanted. So a locked in potentail profit of £38 for no risk. What I would like to do is go through the card looking for value and make a few more bets, hopefully with the object of laying them off as the price fluctuates. Anybody got any ideas.
Thanks for the tip Karabiner Title: Re: Highly speculative Cheltenham bet ! Post by: Graham C on January 11, 2006, 11:53:58 AM No other ideas but The Listener got a mention on 5 Live news the other day when the entries were announced - in the same sentence as Beef or Salmon!
Title: Re: Highly speculative Cheltenham bet ! Post by: Newportlad on January 12, 2006, 08:41:15 PM I saw that The Listener was 8/1 to win at Cheltenham on Bluesquare (i think)
Title: Re: Highly speculative Cheltenham bet ! Post by: Karabiner on January 12, 2006, 09:50:20 PM I saw that The Listener was 8/1 to win at Cheltenham on Bluesquare (i think) Different race NPL, that would have been for the novice's(first year 'chasers) event. The fancy prices are for the Gold Cup which it is not by any means sure to run in. However if one were to be on @ 400+ and have laid a little @ 70 one would not be too concerned ;cheerleader; Title: Re: Highly speculative Cheltenham bet ! Post by: Graham C on January 12, 2006, 10:24:28 PM wow, i was excited then for a moment, 7/1 would have been like Christmas :D
Ah well Title: Re: Highly speculative Cheltenham bet ! Post by: Graham C on January 14, 2006, 09:11:43 PM pah its back to 110 on BF. Im not sure whether to top up by a couple of pounds making the lay more attractive. Could do with some inside info on whether or not its going to actually run or not!
Title: Re: Highly speculative Cheltenham bet ! Post by: Karabiner on January 14, 2006, 09:18:10 PM IMO there is no real value @110 as we do not know whether it will be a runner or not.
It may well shorten due to the next article in the racing press but that is mere conjecture. We will not know if it runs in the Gold Cup until a few days before the race I would estimate. Title: Re: Highly speculative Cheltenham bet ! Post by: Graham C on January 14, 2006, 09:25:34 PM I guess you are right. I'll stick with what I have, we're only talking about a few pounds difference anyway.
Title: Re: Highly speculative Cheltenham bet ! Post by: Graham C on January 31, 2006, 05:18:51 PM mmmm, Its also listed as 2nd fav for the Sun Alliance Nov Chs on the 15th. I guess it wont run both, so we (I) may have dipped out here.
