Title: Turn line to get max value?
Post by: cambridgealex on April 07, 2011, 12:36:12 AM
A lot of the previous 3bet pots we'd played, I'd cbet he'd flat then I'd c/f the turn. So I tried to work off that by checking the turn instead of barelling. now that he has bet, is c/j the best, or c/c lead river? c/c check river? (we have 45on the turn so 30 more if we c/j)

Call then check river wait for his jam, if he doesn't jam he won't be calling any bet imho

i would say the opposite. plenty of hands he's gonna check behind for showdown value like TT-77 A6, 65 etc but may hero a shove on nondiamonds (or spades) rivers as im repping a rele small value range.

Call.

Also 3bet pre seems very bad with description. What was your reason for 3b pre?

thought i could use the dynamic to get paid if i flop well and 64s flops pretty well. i 3b a vwide range heads up, probs 20%ish. maybe i should tighten up my 3b range if he's not folding to ne cbets? though only 3or4hands, hardly a large sample, he might've just hit each of those flops.

Yeah just 3bet big cards like broadways and he will peel with alot worse. I htink 3b 64s here because it flops well and you think you can potentially stack him is a leak. Its a nice hand but definitely wouldn't get carried away with it.

These guys are actually pretty annoying I played one yesterday and obv got owned.

Yeh but most ppl do

At 50nl, they usually do the cawl than the fold.

I like a c/j given dynamic.

Id be 3betting tighter and have a higher turn cbet if he is floating a lot of flops

vs people that open 95% of buttons and fold a LOT to 3bets, or if they don't, they generally fold to a lot of flop cbets, I don't see how this is a bad idea? Especially with hands that flop really well when called and have a lot of implied odds if we flop massive.

As a default i think pleno is correct in 3betting big cards etc to begin with. After you have a read there are 1 of two options:

1) 3bet pound on the guy till he adjusts and allows you to continue ioth your original plan
2) 3bet alot of sc type hands as you suggest.
My problem with the latter is when he defends his range is going to be a hell of a lot stronger than yours. You don't always flop the nuts with these hand and often flopgutshot orpair+weak draw where your putting yourself in a really tough spot.Personally i'd rather just peel these hands which play better with a larger stack to pot ratio and 3bet hands like K8s/Q9s etc

Definitely jam imo, he stacks every overpair and every FD has overs or a gutter

Would be an absolute disaster just calling here and potentially not stacking 6x/77 on a board where he thinks there are a ton of bad rivers for his hand so he's happy to just get it in now

In his eye.

Personally anyway... I feel like we can't check the river if we flat, because our hand looks fairly strong if we do. If we jam turn we could still have draws in our range which means he can call wider (and he can also have the same type of hand).

Xxx

I think we should obv analyse his range first before coming into any conclusions. what value hands does he have?  55/66/45/78/37/6x/77-AA and given his line the only ones i can see him playing this way are: 6x and 88-99 reason for this being most bad players are gna raise their strong value hands in a 3bet pot just to try and stack the "over pair"
You've also gta remember that u've c/f a super high% of turns in 3bet pots, and obv if its a high % then im sure you're oppenent has caught onto that. Therefore hes not gna expect you to be bluffing turn cards often at all which gives him no reason to slowplay expecting you to bluff, he'd rather just try and get all the money in now hoping you have a strong hand. Which leads me to think most of his range is heavily weight towards air and some draws, but expecting him to raise his draws on the flop a decent% of the time in a 3bet pot. Given that, i dont mind calling hoping either he hits his draw (even though i think a draw is the lower% part of his range) which all the money will go in anyways, and if hes bluffing he cant call a shove but might shove if we check. Or we could call and go for the cheeky mini fake blocker bet on the river of like $2 on diamond or spade river cards and hope for him to spaz with his air. Reason for this being we look like we're scared of the flush and want a cheap showdown, which will induce a shove a high% of time vs a bad/v avg player. Most ppl psychologically just wont wna fold to this min bet esp on "good" river bluffing cards so therefore elect for a raise. Only downside to this is that he will call in which we will lose value when he does have marginal showdown hands, but looking at his range he just doesnt have enough combinations of hands that fit into that category.

Hope this helped :) p.s just woke up so if I confused anyone/my grammar is bad excuse me :p

well its checkjam turn or c/c lead river. At least with those lines you can have a bluff/distinct lack of showdown value anyhows.
