Title: Poor Hank Post by: snoopy1239 on April 07, 2011, 12:26:50 PM Hank the Puli is not well. When I got down this morning he'd shat all over his crate, then he went out and shat some diarrhea. He vomited a couple of times, then shat some more liquid. Apart from that, he seems as per normal, so likely ate some dodgy leaf or something. I'm going to remove his food for 12 hours, but am I'm unsure if I should be giving him water. I've read that I should remove water to let his insides settle, but, at the same time, I don't want him to dehydrate. Any puppy vomiting/diarrhea tips welcome. Cheers.

Of course, he might have just joined the IRA and has staged a dirty protest in his crate. Title: Re: Poor Hank Post by: TightEnd on April 07, 2011, 12:44:26 PM straight to a vet, surely?
Title: Re: Poor Hank Post by: GreekStein on April 07, 2011, 12:44:47 PM straight to a vet, surely? Title: Re: Poor Hank Post by: snoopy1239 on April 07, 2011, 12:44:54 PM I'm reading conflicting stuff regarding the water, so I think I'm just going to give the vet a bell.
Title: Re: Poor Hank Post by: snoopy1239 on April 07, 2011, 12:54:18 PM Booked him in (although not until 5.30pm). They said leave the water. Shows that you should be wary about what you read and get a vet's advice on these things.
Title: Re: Poor Hank Post by: snoopy1239 on April 07, 2011, 01:10:27 PM Note to self: get a dog with shorter hair next time.
Title: Re: Poor Hank Post by: DaveShoelace on April 07, 2011, 01:19:11 PM Note to self: get a dog with shorter hair next time. lol, been there, Old English Sheep dogs are also not a breed you want to have the runs. Ring the vets mate, way too much conflicting advice, get some certainty. Get well Hank Title: Re: Poor Hank Post by: snoopy1239 on April 07, 2011, 01:25:32 PM Note to self: get a dog with shorter hair next time. lol, been there, Old English Sheep dogs are also not a breed you want to have the runs. I just don't understand why he feels the need to turn over for tickles straight after... Title: Re: Poor Hank Post by: EvilPie on April 07, 2011, 04:44:47 PM Will you please cut the poor things hair away from it's eyes.
I've seen a few of these type dogs before and it's a nightmare for them to see. Must be horrible. Title: Re: Poor Hank Post by: AndrewT on April 07, 2011, 04:49:23 PM (http://static.guim.co.uk/sys-images/Football/Clubs/Club_Home/2011/3/18/1300488399643/David-Luiz-Chelsea-v-Live-007.jpg)
Title: Re: Poor Hank Post by: snoopy1239 on April 07, 2011, 06:42:27 PM Will you please cut the poor things hair away from it's eyes. I've seen a few of these type dogs before and it's a nightmare for them to see. Must be horrible. The common belief is that their sight is pretty good, despite the hair, and there's no real evidence to suggest that they find it horrible. Some breeders believe that revealing their eyes accelerates blindness and makes cataract more likely due to increased exposure to sunlight, although I believe that's an old wives' tale. We've discussed trimming it, but want to band it upwards instead and are just waiting for his hair to get a little longer to make that possible. Vet said that's fine. Title: Re: Poor Hank Post by: Laxie on April 07, 2011, 06:56:43 PM Was told the same re: Lily's fringe. Don't cut it or they can have eye problems. We cut it once every six months mainly just to tidy things up, but her sight seems ok either way.
Hope Hank feels better soon. Title: Re: Poor Hank Post by: Karabiner on April 07, 2011, 07:57:25 PM Hank the Puli is not well. Did he not even eat today's outpourings as I thought they were his favourite snack? Title: Re: Poor Hank Post by: RED-DOG on April 07, 2011, 08:31:16 PM If the vet thought there was something seriously wrong with the dog he wouldn't have made you wait til 5:30.
Now he'll bung you some jollop and hit you for fiddy. Title: Re: Poor Hank Post by: kinboshi on April 07, 2011, 08:34:16 PM Was told the same re: Lily's fringe. Don't cut it or they can have eye problems. Really? Based on what evidence (genuinely interested to read any evidence that supports this)? Are these the same breeders who breed pedigree dogs with genetic disorders and abnormalities as part of the breed description? Look at bulldogs, bassets, pugs, bloodhounds, chow chows, great Danes, St Bernard's....... (Show strains, not working strains obv) Title: Re: Poor Hank Post by: Laxie on April 07, 2011, 08:56:06 PM And that's why we've never panicked about trimming her fringe. Same people also told me I was wrong for cutting the rest of her hair back a couple of times a year because "It doesn't look right."

Well, I like to think I trained him; he probably just stopped doing it of his own accord. Now he'll bung you some jollop and hit you for fiddy. True. To be honest, I wasn't worried because apart from the eye-through-a-needle deposits, he seemed fine. It was easy to wipe his ass at least. He turns over for tummy tickles at every opportunity. Title: Re: Poor Hank Post by: kinboshi on April 08, 2011, 08:55:11 AM How's he doing now?
Title: Re: Poor Hank Post by: snoopy1239 on April 08, 2011, 11:09:57 AM How's he doing now? He seems better and is happily munching away at the special tucker the Vet slipped me. Slightly sloppy in the excrement department, though, but not liquidy. Still bright and perky, as if his anal sacks were in perfect working order and that me wiping his bum was a daily occurrence. He says thanks for asking, in barks. Title: Re: Poor Hank Post by: snoopy1239 on April 08, 2011, 11:13:12 AM Now he'll bung you some jollop and hit you for fiddy. We're really lucky; the VET up here isn't particularly cheap, but they're really good and definitely worth the extra pennies. The guy I took him too yesterday is also a behaviourist, and he invested some extra time helping me out with a couple of training issues we're still struggling with. Seemed keen to help rather than offer a quick fix and shove me out the revolving door. Title: Re: Poor Hank Post by: kinboshi on April 08, 2011, 12:25:27 PM What is Hank like with foxes?
