Title: RSQ 55 - Here we go again...
Post by: KarmaDope on April 27, 2011, 10:33:12 PM
The Rules

There are 11 questions.

PM me your answers by 11:59pm on Sunday 1st May. Please put RSQ 55 in subject header. Please give each answer on a SEPARATE line with corresponding question number.

The reveal will take place at 8pm on Monday 2nd May. (As I can't do Tuesday or Wednesday)

Your score for each question is number of people who give the same correct answer. So you want to go for answers that you think will be less commonly given. Levelling commonly happens. The answer most commonly given is called the sheep, with the corresponding sheep score.

You are not allowed to do research such as Google searches to come up with answers, and you're not allowed to ask others for help with your answers.

If you give an incorrect answer, you will receive the Sheep score + 5 points.

You MUST pass on one, and only one, question and score a 0 for that question. YOU CANNOT PASS QUESTIONS 10 OR 11

Any questions, post in this thread.

Objections are allowed, but as is standard, will probably be ignored. The QM decision is final.

Lowest score after the 11 rounds will win. In the event of a tie, some type of farce will take place.

Objections encouraged. Farce intended. Participation please!

The Questions

1. Name a current, sitting Cabinet Minister

2. Give me the title of a Stephen King book released after January 1st 1990.

3. 8 football clubs made the quarter finals of the 2010/2011 Champions League. Name one.

4. Name one of the top ten people in the line of succession to the British Throne.

5. Name a motorway service station on the M6.

6. Name a recruitment agency that operate in England.

7. Name an actor/actress who has appeared in all of the Harry Potter films released to date.

8. Name an "Official Companion" of the Doctor in Doctor Who.

9. Name anybody who has won a £75 buy in APAT Live Amateur Poker Championship.

10. Give me the forum username of a blonde who has a current diary thread that is open (and by current I mean updated within the last 14 days).

11. There were lots of blonde members that entered the "blonde/SkyBet naps competition" over in Betting Tips. State the current forum username of anyone who took part.

The Entrants

Stickied.

I have to take exception to the following questions though:

5. Name a motorway service station on the M6. - I've used the M6 once or twice. I certainly don't know the name of service stations. Change the question to M62 and I can answer.

9. Name anybody who has won a £75 buy in APAT Live Amateur Poker Championship. - errrrrrrr? There's a name that I think might of won one but I'm not sure. I don't see why I should really know this.

11. There were lots of blonde members that entered the "blonde/SkyBet naps competition" over in Betting Tips. State the current forum username of anyone who took part. - I do not read this thread. At best i've skimmed it. It doesn't mean I know an answer. At least I don't have to google it.

To be fair there's a few names that are probably a safe guess for 11. But they're just that: a guess.

did you get a grown up to write the questions for you this time? the difference between this and your last 2 attempts is amazing, well done (though the m6 question is a shocker)

Title: Re: RSQ 55 - Here we go again...
Post by: kinboshi on April 28, 2011, 10:39:24 AM
M6 isn't that bad a question.  Obviously penalises those who have an ASBO that means they can't leave the area within the M25.

Overall the questions are much better - but I can see that a few will be tough for some, and if there's more than one they can't answer - that makes the quiz unplayable.

Title: Re: RSQ 55 - Here we go again...
Post by: Cf on April 28, 2011, 10:48:01 AM
I think the M6 question is terrible. As was the M1 question. The only reason I knew an answer for the M1 question was because the name amused me and it stuck. I've used plenty of services on the M1 but never often enough to pay attention to and remember the names of them. I can name a few on the M62 because I drive past them regularly. If you don't drive or don't happen to live near or use these motorways regularly then I don't see why you should know the answers.

I'd be guessing on two and don't have an iota on another two.  Sigh.

Thought I had come up with a twist to save RSQ

Sharplea immediately abandons it and sets tough questions that will disenfranchise half the potential runners!

Sigh!

1,2,6,9 I think are too specialist for a blonde audience

Will enter anyway

I can't even drive yet I scored a big fat zero.

Less whining IMO cf.

Question 5 is a pretty blatant anti-AndrewT question.

He knows I don't drive, but I am a Londoner, so got the M1 question with my super-Cockney-applesandpears-kneesupmotherbrown knowledge.

Now, same question except it's for flatcapwhippetsandgravy Northerners.

I was going to do Pointless. Then I remembered I didn't really have 20 odd people I could ask as the only way possible was at work...and the people I work with generally dont know what day it is sometimes. Hence back to regular RSQ.

I can't see anything wrong with most of the questions. Find it absolutely hilarious that I choose a Motorway more used than Tighty yet get more abuse. Everybody can probably name 3-4 cabinet ministers (or should be able to, really). I though recruitment agencies were pretty common these days and it hadn't been used. As for the blonde questions...most people can probably work out 3-4 answers per question.

I reckon the M6 is about 180 miles away from my house. Would you care to have a go at naming a pasty shop on the A38 in Cornwall?

Quite happily - my brother in law lives there. ;) I'll go for...Greggs :P

I chose the M6 mainly because it's the main motorway to a lot of poker venues - Manchester, Blackpool, Bolton, Walsall, Birmingham, Coventry et al.

It might well do, but I'd like to see the figures. Can you google them for me?

Yeah, but the M1 question was the only iffy one in tighty's selection. And I did call him out on it mid quiz. You can always use your pass. But when you have multiple iffy questions and 1 pass people are going to complain.

Don't see why people would complain about q1 though. 5/6/9 are the only ones that need sorting really. The blonde diary one is fine. And the betting one educated guesses will probably be safe.

I had previously assumed that 2 was easy. just googled and realised that everything I've heard of was pre 1990 ('cept for 1 that they made a film of)

why post '90 adam?

I don't read his books, I know of few Stephen king films but no idea on dates.

I have no idea where the M6 is? If I go somewhere outside Yorkshire its plane or Train.

Recruitment agency I wouldn't even be able to guess one having never used one.

I have never watched Doctor Who, I cant even guess.

I have never been, seen or heard of an APAT event, I dont read the threads on APAT and have no interest in it.

I am guessing I am like most of the forums. Is this an Reverse reverse RSQ where the questions are too hard?

Not that it matters, 4 entries means I'm not wasting my time doing a reveal.

It's a shame Adam as I know you support RSQs and blonde in general, but rather than criticising those who didn't enter I think its better to look at the Quiz. Once again your questions are quite tough, a bit specialist ina  few areas and probably offputting to people

Not sure where we go from here, I have another format to try, but happy if someone new wants to run one...

Either Acidmouse or your new format please.

In my last few quizzes most people had issues with the same question. This time different people had issues with different questions. I can't change 6 questions because 1 person can't answer 2 of them and another person can't answer another 2 of them can I?

When I do my answers I google I sometimes have to take a guess, or put an answer down that I'm really not sure on. I get the impression that other people won't answer unless they are absolutely 100% positive that they have correct answers for every question because they're scared of failing.

Does this quiz seriously needs x days to run? 2-3 at most I reckon. Most players see it pretty much straight away but don't send answers in til later to "make more work for the QM". Tighty should put his up today and reveal Thurs/Fri.
