Title: road tax
Post by: sovietsong on April 28, 2011, 10:16:54 PM
buying a little run around tomorrow, where do i stand on road tax?

Sorted the insurance to kick in at mid-day and the car is being MOT'd in the morning (having already been checked), can I drive it over the weekend and sort it on Tuesday or will I get in big bother?

Why isn't it taxed? Unless someone has completed a sorn the dvlc will be looking for blood and iit looks like you are the donor atm.

Guinness label ftw

But if post offices are closed, will the five-o be able to lock me up and ting?

I thought maybe I could get out of it by saying, 'just bought the car gov'

Would be bare vexed if I got pinched.

I'm buying it from a garage, the MOT is out of date, it is being MOT'd before I buy it but doesnt currently have Tax.

hmmm most reputable garages wouldn't let you take it away untaxed, but maybe the garages I've dealt with are outliers on the normal distribution curve of reputability.

when i bought my main car, which was new, it was all taxed up.  The place I'm getting this one from is very unlikely to sort out the tax, the gent explained to me that some cars come with some tax and others dont.

Which was nice.

If you renew the tax online they give you 3 working days or something for delivery so just say you've done it online imo

Tax it online. Then they can only do you for not displaying it.

if you have taxed it online and have prrof they wont do you for not displaying it and you will have 7 days to bring it to station

Also will it mean I pay for an extra month as its april now where as if i wait till tues it will be may?

my road tax is taken care for me by the motabiblty people but i dont think you can road tax a car without valid insurance and MOT
if you was to buy 12 months now you would get it to end of may 2012

Doubt you'll be able to do it online today - the insurance details won't be on the database, so it'll tell you that you can't do it online.

the queen had no tax on the motor she used to get to the wedding today, also no plates and she wasn't wearing a seatbelt. she got her driver to just take it easy and not overtake the motorbike cop they were following, pretty sure she got away with it

Car is now on the drive - still no tax.

We can't buy the tax online as the car is not reg'd to us yet.

If I bought it tomorrow would i be effectively paying for 11 months 1 day ?

Don't know why I start stupid threads like this when I could have just googled it!

I am now all set, we can buy the tax tomorrow and as its in the last 2 days of the month we can have it start in May.

start a trend.... Ask a question you already know the answer to and then look at all the bollocks people come out  with.  most of em can have a silly title like "line check"
