i called the 3 bet in the hope the raiser would shove but he flatted wasnt the worst option for me but it left 7k+ back
was leading flop right option or should i have checked to let him bluff at it?

I prefer leading the flop.  If he has an overpair he is raising/calling here anyway and he may think a hand like AK/AQ is good.

i prefer checking the flop for the reasons listed above
if you are gonna bet i dont understand why not just shove? shirley betting so small looks so strong?

Given his stack I can't see how it makes any difference what you do.

You might as well shove to be honest. Make yourself look a bit desperate maybe.

If he's got a decent hand he's calling, if not he's passing.

If you check to him he checks back anything that he's not calling a shove with.

More chance of him calling AK or AQ with 2 to come.
