Title: GOLDEN CHIP - to display or not to display that is the question! Post by: Forrester on May 21, 2011, 11:00:20 AM I am not a superstitious person, in fact I am quite the opposite. I purposefully walk under ladders, I cross the paths of black cats, I break mirrors for fun, The number of Magpies I see does not bother me. I know a man who will not allow shoes to be put on a table; if new shoes are brought in a room he has a panic attack and if someone (me) puts them on a table he has to visit his psychiatrist. I will say MacBeth if I am ever in a play.
But when it comes to poker I am quite different. I have to wear my lucky shirt, I am happy when I get seat 7 or 8 and if I get 1 or 5 it doesn't feel right. I do not like to win the 1st hand of a tournament but I prefer to be in the hand. If a Virago appears on my table I develop a cold sweat. Most of these things derive from incidents I have experienced in previous games. My dilemma is the "Golden Chip" I had one in a previous tournament and didn't display it; I played like Jamie Gold and was eliminated quickly. So do I display it today? Title: Re: GOLDEN CHIP - to display or not to display that is the question! Post by: Karabiner on May 21, 2011, 11:22:29 AM I think you should sit on your golden chip throughout the tourney like a mother-hen.
Then display it on the final table once it has hatched. Title: Re: GOLDEN CHIP - to display or not to display that is the question! Sounds like your lack of superstitions has become a superstition. What can be gained by having it on display? Title: Re: GOLDEN CHIP - to display or not to display that is the question! Post by: TightEnd on May 21, 2011, 11:50:18 AM and I don't see any benefit from showing it either.
Ignore those superstitions. They can become a right pain to everyday life if you let them. Title: Re: GOLDEN CHIP - to display or not to display that is the question! Post by: redsimon on May 21, 2011, 11:52:51 AM Certainly wouldn't show if I had one. I'm happy that those who have one tend to display it with pride though :)

Post by: MC on May 21, 2011, 12:21:11 PM 100% don't show. It would be so -EV, especially if you made it to the bubble.
Title: Re: GOLDEN CHIP - to display or not to display that is the question! Post by: outragous76 on May 21, 2011, 12:25:37 PM I thought you had to display it at all times?
If not then def dont Title: Re: GOLDEN CHIP - to display or not to display that is the question! Post by: Claw75 on May 21, 2011, 12:28:21 PM you guys all need to stop thinking logically - this is a much bigger dilemma than how it will affect the table dynamics - we're talking about messing with the poker gods here.
i had a golden chip at the last deepstack. i kept it in my pocket and busted early doors. Was deffo coz I didn't have the chip on show imo. Title: Re: GOLDEN CHIP - to display or not to display that is the question! Post by: RED-DOG on May 21, 2011, 02:29:43 PM It could work to your advantage though. Meta-game stylee.
Title: Re: GOLDEN CHIP - to display or not to display that is the question! Post by: gatso on May 21, 2011, 02:34:15 PM lend it to someone else for a really confusing table dynamic
Title: Re: GOLDEN CHIP - to display or not to display that is the question! Post by: Spraggs on May 21, 2011, 02:46:11 PM i'd keep it hid until FT bubble, then show it off, and 4bet Jam 90% of 3bets
Title: Re: GOLDEN CHIP - to display or not to display that is the question! Post by: Forrester on May 21, 2011, 07:55:03 PM You are correct Claw75 about my identity - and you are also correct about the POKER GODS - I came 93rd so it could be classed as success or failure -- I didnt display so next time I probably will.
Title: Re: GOLDEN CHIP - to display or not to display that is the question! Post by: h on May 21, 2011, 08:36:42 PM i had a golden chip didn't show
Simon came to check golden chips "Hugh have you got your golden chips?" yes Ty can i have another please said i No was the reply was then asked by other player whats it worth replied absolutely nothing until ft bubble then its worth +£5k if you run good or can afford to fold until bubble bursts i wouldn't show can see no advantage to showing however i think everybody is going to know who's left in with a chip Title: Re: GOLDEN CHIP - to display or not to display that is the question! Post by: paulpitchford on May 23, 2011, 10:25:30 AM I thought the guy that FT'd yesterday played it very well. He didn't tell anyone about it until he'd got a decent stack on the FT. When they were 8 handed the 8th spot plus his Golden Chip was basically freerolling him to 3rd. I think you could really loosen up and put the pressure on from there. You may get called a bit lighter, but IMO the way the tournament played out, he could have really put them in some tough spots.
