Title: Re: Help on laptop please. Post by: Rotty on May 24, 2011, 11:28:30 AM sounds like a TDSS based malware
get the TDSS cleaner from Kepersky, run this in safe mode reboot and then run malwarebytes in safe mode malwarebytes on its own prob won't fix it due to the TDSS rootkit Title: Re: Help on laptop please. Post by: millidonk on May 24, 2011, 11:42:22 AM RegCure has always sorted me out.
Title: Re: Help on laptop please. Post by: The_nun on May 24, 2011, 11:57:06 AM Can't download malware it just is going so slow n redirecting me to other pages.
Title: Re: Help on laptop please. Post by: Longines on May 24, 2011, 12:00:14 PM Do you use Internet Explorer? Using a different browser may bypass some of the redirection techniques.

Title: Re: Help on laptop please. Post by: kinboshi on May 24, 2011, 12:08:35 PM You might want to try booting up in safe mode and then doing a system restore to send your PC back to a time before the malicious program was installed.
To get into safe mode, you press F8 as your computer is booting up (in most cases it's F8 and it will probably say this on the screen). When you've rebooted into safe mode, then you need to do the system restore: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/using-windows-vista-system-restore/ (not sure what version of windows you're running). If the malicious software was installed yesterday, then restore your system to a point before then and it should all run OK after that. You will lose any programs you've installed since then, but all the data (documents, images, etc.) will be as they are now. Title: Re: Help on laptop please. Post by: EvilPie on May 24, 2011, 12:11:25 PM Switch it off.
Start it up again whilst tapping the F8 key. Select safe mode with networking when the screen comes up. Go to control panel and do a system restore to some time before you installed cccleaner. Don't use cccleaner again. Title: Re: Help on laptop please. Post by: EvilPie on May 24, 2011, 12:11:59 PM Oh no!!!!!!
Agreeing with Dan again!!!!! Title: Re: Help on laptop please. Post by: The_nun on May 24, 2011, 12:45:39 PM This is doing my head in. Gone on to safe mode. But it says system protection needs turning on. Followed instructions but can't see a box to check.

Followed instructions but can't see a box to check. It might be that you haven't had your laptop set up to save restore points that you can rollback to. If that's the case, you won't be able to do a system restore. Title: Re: Help on laptop please. Post by: The_nun on May 24, 2011, 02:43:26 PM Managed to turn on restore again not that we had turned it off as done one previously however, I put it into safe mode like you two suggested and then set restore point and it is now stuck. It says please wait whilst windows files and settings are restored. Been like it for 20 mins or more.
Title: Re: Help on laptop please. Post by: Longines on May 24, 2011, 02:46:06 PM Could take 60 minutes+ to do a restore.

Title: Re: Help on laptop please. Post by: The_nun on May 24, 2011, 03:36:46 PM After restore point was done, I have once again down loaded that malewarbyte thing again, it is still showing loads of objects infected. How does one get shut of the little swines once and for all?.
Title: Re: Help on laptop please. Post by: Rotty on May 24, 2011, 03:53:55 PM you need to kill the rootkit
if the TDSS did not fix it then try combofix in safe mode get a file called RKill.exe which will keill the malware processes and allow the scanners to run properly, run TDSS and Rkill prior to running your scans ( all in safe mode ) , you could also try thr Kapersky virus removal tool ( another one as well as TDSS ) Title: Re: Help on laptop please. How does one get shut of the little swines once and for all?. The files can be on your system, but if they haven't been executed, they won't have installed themselves - so you might be OK. If you are infected still, then you need to run some process that will clean it - Rotty listed several you could try. Title: Re: Help on laptop please. Post by: The_nun on May 24, 2011, 04:33:42 PM OMG sounds very complicated for a simple one like moi.
Title: Re: Help on laptop please. Post by: millidonk on May 24, 2011, 04:53:53 PM Lol believe or not i got a virus today. It was called Malware protection and claimed to be virus software itself. Had to restart the comp in Safe mode with networking [F8], download spybot, run that, fix any errors it has, [18..], immunise, run again make sure it was clean, then download a thing called Hijack This and delete said virus from registry. Both downloads were free and All is good as new now.
