Title: anyone use an electric shaver?
Post by: DaveShoelace on May 27, 2011, 11:06:12 PM
I've wet shaved with a proper razor for as long as I can remember, what are electric shavers like these days? Do they shave close?

I have recently started using an electric shaver.  I had a really nice one bought for me last christmas and i used it for a few weeks when i first got it but have now been using it for 2 to 3 months.  I find it a bit easier as I have to shave everyday for work.

I use this one.

Its great.  Clean it every couple of days and its much better than the electric razors I've had before.

Its something that you probably have to spend a few quid on but then again the one shown is the Braun 3 series and i think it retails at around £50.

It will never be as close as a proper shave but I think that a quick once over with a normal razor in the shower if I've rushed the electric shave always does the trick.

Kinda best of both worlds!

What is making you think about the change Dave.  What are you looking for in a shaver?

I would say the Braun 3 then.  Never lets me down, is always there when i need it and keeps itself clean.

+1 to what sovietsong says. Worth paying money for a decent one. Pretty close shave but as an everyday shave it's so much quicker and a wet shave every so often feels a bit of a treat rather than a chore.
I dropped my electric shaver and broke it and am back wet shaving at the moment and it's breaking me. You don't realise what you have till it's gone.

Thanks guys, I always found leccy razors ineffective, but I saw an advert for one on TV yesterday and thought to myself they must have come along in the nearly 20 years I have been shaving, so seeing what people think. Might get one.

Naughty little Billy Fraser
Found his dad's electric razor
Now rugs and mats that once were hairy
Now are bald, and so is the canary.

I'll get my coat....    ;marks;

could always go half way and have a powered wet shave. the gillette fusion proglide power came above any full electric jobbies and other standard wet razors when the gadget show did their test. fusion has won every test they've ever done

It arrived today and pleasantly suprised. I probably shouldnt have used it today as I had 4 or 5 days of growth and it was quite long - so it took a while and it felt funny (tickly, not painful). It has missed a few patches, mainly around the bone of my chin, but overall it took a lot more off and a much smoother feel than I expected.

I expect tomorrows shave now I have got rid of the stubble will be the more telling shave. Will update.

(Maybe this could be my blonde diary)

You sure it was the shaver and not your driving skillz?

My wife bought me one of these this week. Give a very good shave indeed (the Braun not the wife)

I was reading an article in the paper today about a new lotion that's about to go on sale here but they've had in the states for a while. you slap it on yer face or your pits and legs if you're a lass and it weakens the hair so it doesn't grow back much. you then only have to shave something like 6 times a year and look clean shaven all the rest of the time

All I can say is if Dr Benade ever cooks you dinner, make sure he washes his hands first.

Today was the second shave, this time without all the long stubble. Think it might actually be a keeper, it didnt hurt or tickle this time and basically what you are left with is what your face feels like about 6 hours after a wet shave. No more looking like a homeless man mid week for me

Which razor did you get David?

On the one I use has a trimmer so if you do have a week off shaving you can trim first to get a better shave.

Really hope you keep this thread going. Loving it so far

Update

Its basically gone how most of you would expect it to. Its very good day to day if you cannot be arsed to wet shave, but after about 5 or 6 days, you accumulate a lot of stray longer hairs it just cannot pick off. I went about 10 days without a wet shave, and the subsequent electric shaves after that were much better. So I would recommend electric shavers, with the suggestion you have one good wet shave at the weekend.

No no

The whole fun is then pulling out the stray hairs through out the day whenever you locate one.
