Title: Contemporary Art Post by: GreekStein on June 05, 2011, 06:44:20 PM My little sister has to do a presentation at school this week on contemporary art.
Was hoping to get both people's opinions and links/extracts from useful sources on the below: - How it first started? When? Who were the protagonists? - How would/should we define contemporary art? - Any information on the business of modern art. How much it's deemed to be worth? Who are the most sought after artists? Most expensive pieces of work? etc... - Your opinion on contemporary art. Help on all/any of these points appreciated. Cheers. This is a bit interesting - most of the top ones would have been described a "modern" art at their creation. Everyone thought van gogh was shit when he was alive, but I think he's pretty good. People with money obv orgasm over jackson pollock, but I think wtf? Everyone thought van gogh was shit when he was alive, but I think he's pretty good. People with money obv orgasm over jackson pollock, but I think wtf? Generally why most artists died as paupers. That is the biggest change in the modern era, in that artists are actually making money from their art for a change. Steve Wynn owns the Picasso painting Le Reve. Some hedge fund manager wanted to buy it off him for $139m. However, just a few days before it was to be transported, Steve Wynn was showing the painting to some people, tripped over, and stuck his elbow through it. Sale cancelled.
