Title: Where to start? Post by: Reyarn on June 07, 2011, 07:20:53 PM Hi, I'm just looking for any help and advice on this subject.
I've had mix success live and I've shipped a couple tournaments here and there, but nothing special. Just the usual £25+ freezeout comps etc. at Casino'a with about 100 +/- runners and £1000 give or take for first place. Last one I won was on 23rd May at Broadway Casino which was £955 for first. I've recently stopped playing for a while and the first time I played in about 3-4 months was the competition above. I'm just generally looking for advice on where is the best place to start and what are the appropriate competitions for me to enter to get a starting point and to start making some proper money. Would I be best off to start at the side events at the GUKPT and other big tournaments like when Casino's host their special £100 + competitions etc.. Just wondering where the starting step is for me and where should I start out, I don't really enjoy playing online and I much much prefer playing live. I know players like Jake Cody and Toby Lewis all started somewhere and other UK players who play in the GUKPT's and DTD Deepstack and other events regularly. I'm just looking for advice and help on where to start. Thank you for any input. Title: Re: Where to start? you mention jake cody, toby lewis etc, well these guys started being successful online 1st, they built their bankrolls from small investments so they could afford to hit the bigger LIVE buy in events. they had bankrolls that could cover the huge expenses that go with playing live these days. if you insist on playing live then i would stick to what your doing and play small/medium buy ins, but more importantly local events, this way you are keeping costs down and maximising your profits. once you have built a decent roll then you can maybe considor moving up and trying the odd occasional festival event. just taking a shot you need to be extremely lucky very early, i'm not saying its impossible....but its unlikely. i dont know how experienced/good/rich you are but good bankroll management is paramount to being a succesful poker player. good luck and welcome to the forum Title: Re: Where to start? Post by: ripple11 on June 07, 2011, 08:13:52 PM You say you don't like online.....but its a great way to try and qualify for the bigger live events, often with expenses included. I try and plan the year ahead with which live events I would like to go to, and then see which online sites are doing sats. Get in cheapish and take a punt. :) Good luck! |
