Title: Dog Doo Dliema
Post by: DaveShoelace on June 09, 2011, 10:12:01 AM
Had an interesting situation thats come up before while walking the dog. Walking up the road on the way to the park, he positions himself on a grass verge for his morning dump. Nothing unusual there and as always, I get the poopyscoooy bag ready to pick it up.

However, he has managed to dump right next to another piece of dog poo, that obviously wasnt picked up previously by someone else. The colour and consistency of it clearly is from a different dog. It was probably about 7 inches away from my dogs deposit.

Should I have picked the other one up? The first reason I can suggest why I should is simply because I happen to like where I live and don't want the neighbors to think my dog left it and I didn't pick up after him. Another argument I could make is that the ultimate aim with picking up your dogs plop is so we have cleaner walking surfaces and dont have to worry about stepping in dog poo, so surely I should also clear up any other mess when its not really an inconvienience.

But there is just something that doesnt sit well with me about picking up after someone elses dog.

This situation has come up before when there has been someone in close proximity, every time I have only picked up after my dog, so they may have though I only did half a job.

What do we think?

Have been faced with a similar dilemma... I picked it up.

If it hadn't been near my home I would have left it.

I try to make sure billie does her business before we go out to save this kind of problem!!

I can't get on with the concept of putting something that will last a few days into something that will last a thousand years.

I'd never considered it like that before, although when it gets into the tread of your trainers it seems to last a lot longer than a few days...

I wouldn't mind but (and no one will admit to this) lots of people pick up dog mess because they worry that someone will see them not picking it up.

If their dog does his business were the owner knows he is out of sight of anyone, he wont pick it up anyway.

Those that do pick it up don't want to be carrying a great pile of hot stinking dog shit around with them, especially if the dog does it at the beginning of the walk (As dogs usually do) so at the first opportunity, they will hook the bag of shit on to a convenient fence wire or tree branch with the intention (Or at least giving the impression) of collecting it again on the way back. The trouble is, they usually "Forget" to collect it, leaving the countryside looking like some obscene Christmas decoration.

If your dog shits somewhere innocuous, leave it alone. If it shits where it might cause a nuisance, pick it up with a dock leaf and drop it under the nearest hedge.

I detest people that do this, I personally think dog owners should pick up after their dog when it is somewhere someone will likely step in it, but when people hook it to trees I think they may as well just not pick it up, disgusting.

Can't dogs be trained to have their shit right at the start of the walk - ie in the owner's front garden?

I used to live in an area where there were lots of cats. The little fuckers used to come and shit on my front lawn, I used to retch picking the shit up afterwards, I'm nearly retching now just thinking about it. (http://www.mysmiley.net/imgs/smile/sick/sick0021.gif)

I don't fucking like cats! (http://serve.mysmiley.net/fighting/fighting0067.gif)
