Looking at having the front of my house block paved for two reasons;

a) Get two cars on
b) Less garden = less gardening

So this guy comes round last night, does his little measure up.

He knocked 20% of the 'list' price in return for, agreeing to have the work done in August, having a sign out with his details on for 2 weeks after and keeping the discount a secret.

my brother in law is in this game, that price is ridic high

ur size shows        4' x 6' area with two drain covers to drop and tray i assume thats 4ft x 6ft   or are u taking real old money in 4 yards by 6 yards.

whatever size it should be well under £1500, depending on how much soil needed taking out/concrete broken/skips needed etc etc


i've spoke to the brother in law and he says a good guide is roughly £60 m2, plus extra labour mentioned above. so over all look at about £100 m2 shud be about maximum

even at 55m2 that seems a little high, obviously the bigger the area the price should reduce per metre.

reckon u could get near £1000 (or 300 pints of guinness) shaved off that, depending on quality of blocks, soil that needs removing, concrete breaking etc etc

Hi Stuart for this size job professionally paved with replacement block paving manhole cover and frames, aco type surface water drainage ( new legislation regardind dispensing water on to the highway), key kerbs to driveway entrance, 60mm paving allowing for heavier vehicles and cut in with diamond blade I would charge around £3,400.00. Others in our area would do it for less by cutting corners ie less excavation poor sub base, 50mm blocks, cheap labour etc.

Thanks for replying. I believe the Plaspave Sorrento Setts are a bit more than the normal paving?

Sorrento is a tumbled sett and you can get tumbled paving from pretty much all manufacturers. Plaspave is a good paver, at the moment through our suppliers Eaton tumbled are the best price.

Having a tumbled paviour you may have to buy to the nearest pack so 9.88m2 per pack means you/your chosen firm will need to buy 6 packs meaning a little wastage. On my costings your drive using Eaton tumbled would cost an extra £650. Total cost £4,050.

What you have to remember is if you have been quoted by a larger or national company then there are sales commisions and larger profit margins to pay, all + 20% vat.

Quoted direct so hopefully no sales commisions. Gonna see if they will shear a little off it and then get them on it.
