Title: Another call or fold......
Post by: Highstack on January 03, 2006, 12:46:24 PM
Live tourney with not many runners. Down to the final table of 8 players with blinds at 3000/1500 and only 4 places paid. I am currently holding average stack of around 24,000 and UTG moves all in for around 8,800 total on my big blind. All fold round to me and I am holding 8c 2d.

He has been playing solid without much fortune and even with the big blind looming, I doubt that he would push with atc, so I am reasonably confident that he does not have me dominated with x8 or x2 leaving me with only one live card. I am hoping that he has AK, AQ or similar, but I am concerned that even 33 only leaves me with a live 8.

The cost to me is 5,800 to win 13,300 and a chance to eliminate a player. Howver this 5,800 represents 25% of my stack and if I am unsucessful (as is likely) then he is playing a bigger stack than me.

I exclaim "I hope that you have AK" call and flip over my 82o. He actually shows As Jc.

Result so far, as this was exactly what I hoped for. I then manage to spke the 2s and eliminate him. He was walking round dismayed as if I had p***ed on his kids!

Should I have passed?

I would has passed.

your getting 2-1 but its a big part of your stack, add into this that he is either like you say a big ace, thats what we want, or a pocke pair where we are a big dog then its a pass.

i would pass. i bet he hated you. i see alot of players calling these situations and letting short stacks back in with rubbish, and it annoys me. Of course they also win sometimes and it makes me happy.
