Title: Northern Lights Post by: millidonk on June 17, 2011, 01:55:17 PM Northern lights, not talking about Poker in Blackpool, i mean the Aurora Borealis. Have always wanted to see this pretty much from the moment i found out what it was.
Anyways has anyone get any experience in what is the best way/time to witness this phenom? Anyone seen it and think its a bit shit?? I was thinking of a cruise to the arctic circle with the missus for a few days in November time. Any help/deals etc much appreciated. It's pretty amazing, we were on a trip the first time I saw it and ended up sitting down in a snow filled field for about an hour just watching it. Carried on watching it after, it's pretty special.

I believe best times are around the equinoxes, so March & September. And a lot of people go but don't see them. My parents were lucky - they were visible for 1 night of 3 they were there. Sounded pretty impressive. Photos very hard to get though. Think is was about -25C on the clear night!

MBN. also wanted to go to the ice hotel at some stage! looks amazing. Been reading reviews, some people go on a cruise for 2 weeks and don't see it at all, then some go for 3 nights etc and see it every single night. Yea i have heard some photos come out terrible and it is better to be far away. -25 is my sort of temp!
