Title: Stag Do Suggestions
Post by: DaveShoelace on July 04, 2011, 08:45:23 AM
Its a bit premature as its more than a year away, but as per milligan84's suggestion, post your best stag do suggestions/experiences here

Obv Vegas is the ultimate, but doubt most of my mates could afford that.

I wanted to do the Crystal Maze in Cardiff, but I hear thats closed now.

Also fancied a stunt man day somewhere, Ive always wanted to run away from something thats about to explode.

Currently toying with Liverpool as I really liked my weekend away there last week

Great thread!

Been on an absolute load. Both UK and abroad.

Vegas was my own - literally only one downside imo and that was cost even staying at PH and getting indirect flights, this resulted in numbers being low with only 4 of us making it (just like the hangover) but was still out of this world. CraigyBetts might have a different opinion as he was one of the selected few. Even puking blood didn't put a downer on it.

Riga, Latvia - a few weeks ago 25 of us. Booked through a company called red7. They allow you to set up a monthly payment plan ie £17 pm for 12 months gets you 5* hotel, transfers, strip club, VIP Club entry, go karting and guided pub crawl by 2 hotties. Massive value for money and none of the horror stories that i read about came true. Flights not included, which were only £40.

Manchester - I organised this one and it was booked through a company called Chillisauce.co.uk It was also a monthly payment thing. Got a pub crawl, decent city centre hotel, 5 a side footy and a party bus! this involved getting on a double decker with 3 hen dos and our stag do. It was abso manic. Has a sound system and you play drinking games etc. takes you to 4 bars with 1 free drink in each queue jump etc then rounds you off at a club. Massive valoooo and a great time.

Also been to Liverpool, Blackpool, Newcastle, Edingburgh, Amsterdam, Estonia and Prague on stag dos/lads wknds. Had a lot of trouble getting into places in Liverpool and jockland and it is a massive ball ache to break up in smaller groups etc and someone always ends up not getting in then it is a ball ache getting your mates back out again.

I would defo suggest booking it through one of these tailor made companies. The stuff they have on offer is abso amazing, Zorbing, paintaballing, human table football etc also great value for money and no chance of getting refused entry.

Sure some other people must have some sick ideas.

Never been out in Cardiff, only temby and aberyswth sp* if its anything like either of them places it will be amazing. Crystal Maze would be world class! Book early and do a payment plan imo then even the cheap/indecisive mates have no excuse to not go. 12 months is ideal

Most of the ones I have been on have been tame so far.

Newcastle was fun, freezing though.

Brighton was ok, but the brides dad went, so only so much fun we could have.

York was meh, I got thrown out of a club though so that was fun.

Did one in Australia which was quite time as the brides dad was there, again.

Best one Ive done was London, where we wore stupid outfits and had to have a drink on every stop of the central line, that was carnage.

Done several in Sheffield - meh

Im looking for a mix of a fun place, and an activity/gimmick that will be remembered.

I am in Milligans boat

I have been to ALOT of eurpoean cities on stags -  but the cost is def a consideration, but simple fact is, they tend to be better

I would say making sure everyone comes is far more important than going away. Id much sooner everyone makes it, but i wouldnt bend over backwards for 1 or 2 people, as they usually have a nagging wife who is just trying to throw stumbling blocks in the way anyway they can.

I think lots of people will have been to many places, so perhaps you need to narrow as best you can then we all provide our comments?

One thing I would say, is that although  "activity stags" are good fun, they turn out to be much less fun if you are in the middle of nowhere. We did a weeked in Aviemore last summer - activites were amazing but nightlife was dire. People want nightlife on a stag.

Also, stay where the action is - you dont want to be travelling around all the time - especially with big groups

we hired a midget. he came up from london and met us in manchester. he was with a 'minder' but was totally cool, he said he would come dressed as whatever we wanted, and when he got there we tiewrapped him to the stag. he drank everything the stag did and was abso wasted by ~10pm. cost about £500 but split between 20 people was nothing and was good banter

One i couldn't make but my mate's said was amazing was when they rented a couple of canal boats and just floated/sailed around going from place to place for a few days, getting smashed and causing mayhem. Docking up, going out and doing it all over again the next day. Think that is defo more about the company you are in as opposed to anything else.

Activities i've done on stag dos were clay pigeon shooting, go karting, paintballing and 5 a side. All pretty standard imo. CPS was the worst as a few of us were still abso wrecked/hadn't stopped drinking and the instructors were getting arsey with us threatening to ban us, where as abroad we turned up, signed a waiver and they let us be as drunk as we want, shoot AK47s, shotguns etc.

People + Location > Activities

Midgets > Everything

THis

We went to Copenhagan, which as a city for a stag is pretty poor (expensive), but the group we had was amazing, (really smallishish close nit), one day we didnt leave the same pub - for 12 hours! We just had good craic

Went in 05', really enjoyed it, the ladies were incred. Heard it has been spoilt a bit by the influx of British tourists, which has pushed the prices up and made the locals a lot more wary of Brits in particularly.

Yep! went with CraigyBetts from Blonde and a few other forces lads. Abso amazing women!!!! Everyone was really friendly, decent casino as well. Think the main club is called Hollywoods or something. was immense. A cop did pull a gun on me and my mate but it was our fault as we refused to leave an establishment when we were hammered. The manager said he would call the cops and we called his bluff... The copper then went to the taxi queue and told them all that none of them were allowed to take us home. Managed to find our way back to the hotel in 3 foot + of snow with just jeans and a Tshirt on. Still to this day i haven't seen any country/any city that has nicer women than Estonia.

Edit, i also passed out in the snow after going back with the only ginger in Estonia, woke up and hadn't even been robbed. That just goes to show how nice the people are.

I loved Tallin - one of my favourite city breaks.

We went in summer - great beaches, and the nightlife/women/beer/clubs  -all amazing.  A nice old town for culture too.

Really good city - recommend it to anyone

Loads of them offered Crystal Maze experiences all over the country but the prices seemed rather extortionate and from what I gathered it seemed like there would just be a load of small activities in a field and it would lack that whole Crystal Maze zing.

Fancied it for the last 10 years but never got the chance, hopefully make it before it turns in to Blackpool.

As a completely random theme suggestion everyone in the group pulls a name out of the hat (kept secret) a couple of weeks prior to the stag do. A budget is allocated and strictly adhered to for buying whoever it is their outfit. On the big day, all report with bin bags - dump with names on together.

Each bloke then gets up collects there bag, gets changed in the bogs and comes out for photo call. Obviously all drinking tinnies whilst waiting. Once all randomly dressed, head out into town...

So you can completely stitch people up n have a laugh. To give u an idea of how we turned out:

We did a variation of this where we all had a fiver budget, and had to pick a shirt and a hat for someone at random. It was sort of funny, but it was pretty weak, some people didnt really twig we were even on a stag do they just thought we were knobs, fancy dress would have been much better.

One we did for a mate of mine who is really into proper, cool, indie/guitar music - we each bought a band t-shirt of some desperate act for him to wear throughout the weekend, changing every few hours. so he spent the weekend wearing t-shirts of Phil Collins, Whitesnake, Curtis Stigers etc.

It was good because it was very particular to him - wouldn't have worked as well with someone who wasn't as precious about their music taste.

Going to upset millidonk, though my favourite stag do was 14 of us sharing a villa smack in the middle of Ibiza way off the tourist trail. Perfect for taxis to bora bora, ibiza old town and for one night only.. hell on earth, San An! 12 of the gang liked to spice up their nights with extra highs, though one other and myself became the booze brothers as its not my bag. Still had the best time and ticked off a few superclubs, chilled by eating and drinking in the old town one night and found a club called underground iirc, that was supposed to be where all the workers hung out and was relatively cheaper... I remember 2 drinks in space costing 55 euros.

The villa was amazing, worked out dirt cheap and having no one round for miles mean't we could party till it was time to roll out again! We had a massive pool and a decent area that we turned into a grass tennis court but played in pairs with a footy... one side of the court was marked with the swimming pool so you could do a flying kick winner and end up in the pool. Me and my boy Stowy soon became number 1 seeds and quarter finals were soon getting played out.

Vegas was mint though Millidonks  ;)

Done this a few times on the Thames. Absolutely brilliant especially if the weathers good. Usually carnage at the locks/always someone who cant drive/steer to save his life/ always someone falls in/great pubs with lock ins......plus I'm sure with a bit of research/planning you can find a few activities on route with you want.
Also if you go for a week or few days, people can join/leave at anytime, if money/time if an issue.

An example: http://www.kriscruisers.co.uk/index.html

I went with CraigyBetts from here. He will remember a lot more than me as i was a complete mess. Stayed here: http://www.diytravel.co.uk/Best-Western-Hotel-Tallink-Tallinn-hotel-3535.html (http://www.diytravel.co.uk/Best-Western-Hotel-Tallink-Tallinn-hotel-3535.html) was real nice. i remember walking to the bars and that so it can't have been that far.

I think a lot of the decent stuff was in old town. The women are incred. Decentish priced drinks. Will try remember. The decent Casino is a bit of a trek as i recall walking back in the snow after having a gun pulled on me. (by policeman so don't worry)

Club Hollywood was proper decent, ask for a drink called 'bye bye' they mess you up! a good tip, don't try it on with any of the mafia's missus'.

Only other thing i remember was the stereo bar which was different but decent. Genuinely looks like a hifi from the front.

Barcelona was a top stag for mine. That city has got everything, particularly liked the guy in the closest tapas bar who looked at us every morning skulking into his place in various states of awfulness, he never asked us what we wanted ever - just brought over stuff that seemed absolutely perfect for us and then decided what time we should start drinking again by bringing over a round of lagers.

Birmingham was the shittest stag i've ever been on by a wide margin.

only 2 of our number got mugged/pick pocketed in 5 days, not a bad result by all accounts. Pick pocketing is like the national pasttime over there.

by the end of 5 days i was so pissed off with muggers, dealers and blaggers - that was the only big downside - i think you can avoid it mostly by not going to certain places but we went to all those places.

We saw a team of two girl pickpockets working on the train we got from the airport - we'd been in the country 20 minutes. Defintely seems to be a national sport there.

I saw the craziest pick pocketing episode on the beach. A guy pickpocketed this american and he noticed and went nuts. A big weird shouty pushy argument ensued, while one of the guys girlfriends was holding the guy and they were all clobbering him, we watched him nick her purse out of her bag and hand it off to one of his cronies in the melee. It was sort of impressive.
