Title: Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest
Post by: AlrightJack on July 04, 2011, 03:02:54 PM
Sporting Index betting on this.

They make the line for the number of hotdogs eaten by the winner 57-59. The also quote a Joey Chestnut/The Field bet on the winning margin of hotdogs consumed, at 12.5-14.5.

Live on ESPN America at 5pm.

Anyone got any opinions on this? Times like this Colchester Kev would come in very handy, given his pie eating expertise and prowess.

I'm thinking a small sell of Joey Chestnut/The Field might be the way forward. Wikipedia has full results going back to 1916 for this event.

I'm guessing that after last year's arrest, Kobayashi is not competing this year, hence the high supremacy quote, so maybe a risky sell. Its a question of whether Tim Janus or Pat Bertoletti are hungry enough to get close to Joey.

Joey won last 4 times and seems supremely confident, world record looks on. Spread looks bang on- he will win by 15

SI may have settled it incorrectly - perhaps subject to a recount

It's 10 for win then, 1 for every hotdog won by. Hence +19.

The punters loved it!

The 32-year-old Kobayashi did not eat this year because he refused to sign a contract with Major League Eating

Anyone see "The World Championships of Ping Pong" on Sky Sports over the weekend? Had to check it wasn't Dodgeball on Sky Movies.

Reading rule 4 just about caused a reversal of fortune here. This has to be a level.

The old chubby Red-Dog might be worth training up for a coup in one of these events.

Years ago I worked for a firm that were the official sportsbook partner of this and we put William "The Fridge" Perry into it and he managed a grand total of six hotdogs.  Apparently it is harder than it seems.  Shame about Kobayashi.....we did fortunes on him as short as 1/6 and he is a bit like the Fosbury of the competitive eating world in that he was the first to eat the bun and sausage separately like they all do now.  All a bit sick really.  Great blog on it at the tao of poker.
