Title: Super50 Downfall - Two MTT Spots Post by: edgascoigne on July 11, 2011, 11:20:37 AM Background:
DTD Super50, 197 runners started so 1.97mil chips in play total. We are down to 16 and the bubble has just burst. I have been very active, am wearing a cardigan tied around my neck, and everyone knows I have been at it a lot. This said, few live players wish to call off 15BB stacks at this stage imo. I am playing 260k, another young chap has c400k, leaving 1.3mil between the other 13 players. I rate my chances over the others at the table (thinly veiled brag), but the very nature of the structure suggests this won't come down solely to skill. Hand One: 8 handed blinds are 4k-8k with a running ante of 800. Blind level just begun. Pot is 18.4k. Folds to a chap UTG+2 who raises to 30k from c145k. He is middle aged, seems very ABC, and has recently folded A-Q to a 3bet. Folds to us a couple of spots along where we find A-Ko. I know absolutely naff all about the technical side of things (ICM considerations etc.) but I am confident that, with this player having opened to 30k in that position, he will not fold to a jam. Do we.... (a) Call and re-evaluate the flop (b) Jam (c) Fold I am 99.9% I took the correct option in this hand. Hand Two: 7 handed blinds are 4k-8k with a running ante of 800. Blinds going up in c10mins. Pot is 17.6k. We are playing c145k, and are in the SB. BB playing c80k. UTG (Frankie fwiw) opens to 22k playing c115k. We have history where I have overbet shoved the river, pushing him off top pair, and generally been a pain in the arse attacking his BB from the button persistently. Villain from previous hand calls 22k playing c160k. We look down at 9s 7s in the SB and.... (a) Fold (b) Call (c) Jam Cheers, Ed Title: Re: Super50 Downfall - Two MTT Spots Post by: DungBeetle on July 11, 2011, 11:24:04 AM Jam and fold for me.

hand 2 is a trivial fold and you lose a lot of money by doing anything but folding Title: Re: Super50 Downfall - Two MTT Spots Post by: edgascoigne on July 11, 2011, 12:00:40 PM effective stacks in hand 1? probs 3b/call if theres people w more behind but jam if not hand 2 is a trivial fold and you lose a lot of money by doing anything but folding 145k. He is largest stack from whom there can still be action. As mentioned previously I was 99.9% confident with my decision in hand 1 (I jammed fwiw only to brick against OR's jacks and jacks of the BB). Hand 2, now I see it in the cold light of day, written in horribly simple size 10 font in front of me, I butchered. [ ] Folded [ ] Called [ x ] Jammed (Presumably) flawed logic was that the OR may struggle to call with a caller behind him, and the caller may struggle to call given 'strength' of my jam from the SB and fact he had seen me jam AK but 10mins before. Should we be taking into consideration how much the way that we're dressed in this spot is tilting our opposition? First hand is obv a jam. Second hand is a fold, as tempting as it might be, especially given that you're aware that people think you're at it a bunch. 'Cardigan-around-the-neck-as-per-streets-of-Nice look' is definitely tilting people. Forgot to adjust accordingly, which is disappointing. Title: Re: Super50 Downfall - Two MTT Spots Post by: edgascoigne on July 12, 2011, 09:58:00 AM if our image is really active that makes hand 2 even worse fwiw Yep. Retrospectively pretty disappointed in myself. Not monster money on the line but had played so well for so long that to butcher things like this was rather frustrating. Thanks all for comments, genuinely appreciated. Ed |
