Title: RSQ Soixante Neuf
Post by: Longines on July 27, 2011, 01:27:29 PM
The reveal will take place on Tuesday 2 August @ 20:00. PM me your answers by midnight on Monday with RSQ as the subject.

The object is to get the lowest total score.

Your score is the number of people who give the same correct answer. The answer most commonly given is called the sheep, with the corresponding sheep score.  If you score the only ACE (an ace being a correct answer which no-one else submits) in any round, you will receive MINUS 1 points for that round. So for newbies, you're trying to get unique, correct answers. Q6 is scored slightly differently.

You are not allowed to do research such as using Google to come up with answers, and you are not allowed to ask others for help with your answers.  Remember, you are only cheating yourself (and your illustrious peers).

If you give an incorrect answer, you will receive the sheep score + 5 points

You MUST pass on one, and only one, question and you will receive a score of 0 for that question.

Q1 Name a current English county that doesn't end in shire.

Q2 Name a football stadium used in the 2011/12 Scottish Premier League.

Q3 Name a collective noun that begins with 's' as well as the relevant group.

Q4 Name a chemical element that starts with a vowel.

Q5 Name someone who has held the IAAF mens 100m world record since 1967.

Q6 The game of Cluedo requires players to accuse a specific character of committing murder using a specific weapon in a specific room. Choose a suspect, a weapon and a room. If you ace all three elements you will score -5. Ace two elements to score -1.

Q7 Name one of the ten commandments.

Q8 Name one of the top 20 films ever made according to IMDb.

Q9 Name a single malt whisky.

Q10 Name someone pictured on a Bank of England banknote issued since 1970.

Nice questions.

Clarification:

Q3 Name a collective noun that begins with 's' as well as the relevant group.

The collective noun and the members of the group both have to begin with 's', or just the collective noun?

Q6 is brilliant

Just the sort of creativity we need

Like.

Very good questions

Q7 has an absolute ton of farce potential, should be a good reveal!

I assumed that this is the sort of there where there exists an up to date, official, irrefutable list of correct answers so there can't really be any objections?

I did a question about counties a while ago, and there isn't one, irrefutable, all-encompassing list of counties. There are different lists for different uses/occasions. As the QM hasn't specified which list he wants us to answer from, arguments and farce becomes a very strong possibility.

In. The 100m/whiskey questions had me stumped. I know a couple of whiskey brands but lord knows if they're "single malt" or not. I don't even know what single malt means. In the end had to go with the obvious for the 100m question so mid-table obscurity for me this week I think.

Freedom of speech doesn't  mean people need to provide a platform from which you can be heard.

You can set the questions if I win Cf. I don't handle criticism very well especially having spent hours typing out the questions. Thinking about it the reveal would take forever too

Just over 12 hours to get your answers in. Don't worry about being shown up - more than one entrant so far has problems with the concept of a vowel...

Currently deciding whether to go for mildly pedantic or outright bastard-from-hell pedantry - one of the questions will be so much fun with the latter  ;)

Completely misread question 3, i was going to put an Abandonment of Orphans as i think that is a proper harsh collective noun, then i saw it had to begin with 'S' checked my answer and it begins with S. Biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiink.

Keep up the good work.

Yeah if you say 'Tannadyce' no one has a clue what you mean until you append the rest.

And set of stairs...wtf???? That is a collective noun used frequently for stairs wtffff?

Pffft, it's a flight of stairs.

We do say 'flight of stairs' but we also say 'set of stairs'. Because we say 'flight' therefore we rule out 'set' as an answer? wtf

Define vowel
A vowel is a small rodent resembling a mouse but with a stouter body, a shorter hairy tail, a slightly rounder head, smaller ears and eyes, and differently formed molars (high-crowned and with angular cusps instead of low-crowned and with rounded cusps).

Not enough people say 'flock of crows'. If enough people said it, it would become accepted as standard and enter the big book of collective nouns. People use 'set' and 'flight' almost interchangeably for 'stairs'. Honestly, please google it, it's very widely used, I'm really surprised.

I didn't say ceremonial counties don't exist, they exist but are more historically based. If someone had given 'Yorkshire' as an answer would it have been accepted? It's a ceremonial county. As is Westmorland, and Bristol for that matter.
