Hi all,

Firstly am hoping to get some much needed advice on a chair i'm going to buy for grinding pokers online.

I've been playing online for years but mainly from my sofa or on a cheap ikea wooden chair in front of my desk.

I'm convinced i'm hurting both my back and roi with my rubbish setup and want to change all this. I'm even gonna get a hud!

Finally decided to get a setup going and hopefully the investments will pay for themselves within weeks.

Secondly would love some some advice on desktops/monitors etc, i'm currently playing 4-6 tables on my laptop and believe with a monitor/s and no overlap 8-10 could be easily possible.

Only problem is i have no idea what to buy and how much i'll need to spend. Someone mentioned the dell touchscreen?

I guess for the chair a couple of ton would be the budget if poss and the computer stuff being under 4 figs wld be a beaut.

Can't help you on the chair, I have a cheap Staples thing. Fine for me.

On the monitors though, i think you should go to a good computer shop and try a few setups. For me, 3 monitors >>>>> 1 big 32" monitor or something similar. I know quite a few players here like the 1 bigger monitor though. Like I say, it's really quite personal I think. Basically I don't think you'll find one common consensus.

Longines is the guy to speak to imo about best desktop spec etc

You can plug a monitor into your laptop and have x tables on the laptop at the same time as y different tables on the separate monitor. Something to consider before splashing out on a new desktop?

The monitor on the other thread is still a cracking deal although it seems to be £114 after trade in now.

Looks like the chair is gonna be expensive tbh, want a headrest if poss.

Might try the laptop thing with the monitor, altho this laptop seems like it's struggling as my usb ports seem to have stopped working.

So desktop might be essential, can't keep using this keypad mouse.

Laptop isnt a bad way to go, especially if you travel around a lot playing then it just means when you're away you'll have the same system but just not the extra monitor.  I had my eye on a desktop set up that came with 3 monitors for a while, rookie (Can I say his name here?) posted the link a while back but it seems the site has gone bustoooo  :(

Longines, realistically how much would you expect to pay for a decent set-up that would allow me to browse the internet, play poker and download things. I would use a computer for nothing more than that. Would it be more sensible to bit the bullet and build my own or can you nowadays buy a decent set-up at a relatively low cost?

On top of that, I would ideally like a screen that allows for 16 tables up without overlap. Could use multiple monitors if that's a better solution.

I really have zero idea about this sort of stuff so would appreciate your input. Cheers!

Screens first.

You say 'a' screen to 16-table. Here's an example of two 24" monitors that support 1920x1200 doing just that:

That's from 4 years ago and most monitors are now 1920x1080 so you'd lose a bit of vertical screen real estate but looking at that picture there is an unused strip at the bottom anyway so 1920x1080 should be fine.

The next question comes down to size 1920x1080 on 27" is going to be bigger and easier on the eyes that 24". Equally, you can get a 1920x1080 19" monitor if you have fantastic eyesight - those pixels are going to be pretty damn small.

Monitors that can supprt 2560x1440 and higher are available from Dell (http://accessories.euro.dell.com/sna/sna.aspx?c=uk&cs=ukdhs1&l=en&s=dhs&~topic=monitors-27-30) and Apple but you'll need very deep pockets.

Most desktop computers can support more than one monitor so it may be better to choose two smaller cheaper displays that one larger more expensive one if you have the desk space.

Next desktops.

Couple of options:

Kind of build-your-own - £210 (http://www.ebuyer.com/251310-extra-value-desktop-7873-1036) for a complete PC minus a copy of Windows. Say £75 for a pukka copy of Windows plus £50 for a decent graphics card that will drive high res monitors. It's previous generation technology (CPU Benchmark score 2199) but will be fine if not blisterting for surfing/poker.

Or £550 (http://www.dell.com/uk/p/xps-8300/pd?oc=d00x8321&model_id=xps-8300) for a Dell. It's got a much newer CPU which is more powerful (score 2547) and has a decent graphics card already included.

I'm not so up on true build-your-own - matching mobos with CPUs with PSUs etc etc - life's too short IMO.

Longines would a t.v be any good as a monitor, most are 1920/1080 with vga slots or am i missing something ?

Hmm, good thinking, never considered that.

Tell you what, my soon-to-be 12yo son has a 27" 1080 TV all wrapped up waiting to be opened for his birthday tomorrow. I'll suggest Dad fires up 16 tables at some point just to make sure it's working :-)

You sir are balling out of control on the chair front

Connected my laptop to the TV and in 1920x1080 mode it would only support 12 tables (3 rows of 4) without overlap. Maybe you need to have some 3rd party software or specific Stars setttings to make their tables even smaller? The smallest I can make the tables is about 480x360.

Quality was fine for poker IMO. LG2762D £220.

The refresh rates for TVs are not very good when connected to a computer Im told, so it will be pretty terrible for multi tabling poker

I read about the refresh issue on some hardcore gaming sites - if you're trying to shoot someone in COD then it probably does make a difference. TBH when I had 12 Stars tables on the TV yesterday I couldn't spot any difference from a normal monitor in terms of card animations or mouse tracking.

When i get the house to myself ill try the t.v's have a 40 and a 27" to go at.  Just seems a cheaper alternative when a brand new Samsung 40" t.v is ~£280.
