Post by: MrsHopkino on August 08, 2011, 04:25:19 PM
Does anyone know of anyone in Nottingham who might require a temp? I'm currently looking for some temporary work, whilst I apply for permanent opportunities.

Thanks :-)

I had a pretty bad experience at a restaurant through groupon. I would just not have paid  normally but it's more awkward when you've prepaid and groupon are pretty bad at replying to feedback at the moment. it took 2 days just to get the automated reply acknowledging I'd written to them (so I'd suspect it's not entirely automated) and now another 7 days since I got that with no contact.

I get the feeling they've caught themselves out with their recent expansion as they seem to have a lot of jobs available recently and are struggling to keep up. pretty good company to work for though from what I've heard so hope you get it

Yes they've only been established in the UK over the last 20 months and they already have 720 members of staff!! I am applying for a Business Consultant role, where I work from home and establish new clients to advertise their products on a 24 hour scheme, therefore my role doens't incorporate speaking with the customers or dealing with queries. The interview process itself is quite demanding! 3 interviews = 1st telephone about your acheivements etc 2nd telephone interview role play and negiotiating! 3rd interview F2F So I'm really hoping to get to the third and final interview. As this job would be amazing... not so much of a hard sale, as everyone knows about GroupOn they perhaps don't know how to get their offers out there!

i don't blame groupon but i do blame the concept for some shit experiences i've had.

you never get whats advertised or you get the absolute minimum delivered in a shit way. They treat you like shit because they are making a loss but seem to have completely failed to realise the point of their loss leading promotion. I now slag off all the palces to anyone who will listen and so it costs them business.

I've complained about the last 3 things we've had and am still awaiting any satifactory response from the first complaint which was 4 weeks ago.

Oh Dear, I hate the sound of unhappy customers... :-(
I haven't even managed to secure myself a position there yet to be even able to assist or apologise on their behalf for that matter!
Have you tried Living Social? I know that they are another company promoting themselves in a simular way!
Perhaps to get a result in my opinion would be to go direct to the consumer and complain... GroupOn are only offering a service on behalf of their client - maybe what your dissapointed with, needs to be dealt with directly????????

Sighballs :-( Interview was going pretty well until they started asking me maths questions!!! It took me 3 times to get a C! And I surely didn't know that was coming! :-(

Feedback tomorrow - i have a magic bean with Stu that I didn't get through to round 2 of the interview process!

PS please don't ask me what the maths questions were - simply embarressing!! lol

I didn't get through to the second round of the GroupOn Interviews, obviously lacking Maths skills!! :-(

Never mind!! I received 3 more job rejections today, this job hunting is proving to be harder than it looks. Though I'm still plodding along and hopeful!!

I've even tried to persuade Mr Hopkino to stick me on a plane for a few days to get away from it for a bit!! Ibiza me thinks ;-) we'll see. . . can't seem to find any decent / cheap flights to go on Thursday. I know a DJ out there so thought it might bring the spring back to my step so to speak ;-)

So it turns out there will be no Ibiza trip, as the flights are far too expensive etc. Mr Hopkino kindly informed me this morning that one of hos mates sisters is looking for a part timer to workin a tanning salon, seeing as I'm White as a sheep I jumped at the chance and hope I get to be able to assist and tanned at thesame time :-)
On the job front I've applied to several companies I.e Gala and TDX Group to work as their Internal Rectuiment Consultant though I don't feel at the moment any company is in a hurry to have a closing deadline date and start interviews.... So I'm just waiting and applying to other things.
Pretty gutted I didnt get to stage two of GroupOn, as the job did sound like fun!! :-(
Mr Hopkino and I go away to Paris next weekend and I've managed to persuade him that we should go Euro Disney, as I've been a couple of times before and its lots of good fun!! So if anyonehas any recommendations of places to go please let us know!!

I have no idea what "loot" means :S so with regards to the previous comment I didn't really suffer!!
I emphasise with anyone else out there who is jobless right now, as it's  hard!!

"loot" as in "looting", currently fashionable amongst the working class I'm led to believe.

Good Luck with the job hunting, but I think you dodged a bullet by missing the Groupon gig. I hope you find something soon, though.

Paris - do try & visit the Louvre, to see the Mona Lisa, (awesomely small & disappointing, but has to be seen), Place de la Concorde (grandest roundabout on earth), climb the steps to the top of the Arc & survey Paris in all it's beauty, with arrow straight Avenues in all direction like the spokes of a wheel, all of them with beautifully manicured trees, visit Gare du Nord to see how the French run their railways, travel on the Metro (runs on rubber wheels, interestingly), & try to pop into the ACF (Aviation Club de France) which is on the Champs Elysses, barely a stones throw from the Arc, & arguably the most civilised CardRoom in Europe.  Oh, & you have to go see this bizarre piece of architecture, which forms part of Le Defence.

Tikay recommends a good walk! We were very tired after all that!

When you do the Louvre, and the remarkably small mona lisa (perfectly described Tikay), there is a tea shop in a nearby square called "the the" - really worthwhile a visit

There are a million Romainian beggers atthe eiffel tower - spoils the experience

Sacre Cour is nice and has great views, but its a bit of a trek and in a horrible part of town

Paris is closed on Sundays

Downlaod the free apps "le Metro" and "free and frugal in paris" - fills the odds 10 mins here and there

TAKE PLENTY MONEY - they have redefined charging - €30 for 3 drinks!

Thank you so very much for all the insightful information!! ;-) I've informed Stu to have a wee look on my blog to get more of an idea.
Previously I said there wasn't going to be a trip to Ibiza..... Well this has changed my mate whose working out there has offered to put me up for a few nights and as he's a D J he's even mentioned the word FREE drinks! So I fly out Thursday & come back Sunday to obviously find out that my gorgeous Stu has won the Grand Prix of course!! Good luck to anyone who is participating in the Grand Prix and Stu baby you can do this!! :-) lol

Don't get a taxi at 3am to Montemartre, don't get robbed and threatened by gangsters in the back room of strip bar, don't get pickpocketed by strippers, don't talk to a group of male african immigrants about how you just get robbed because they will try to rob you to and definitly don't forget that you took that 30 min taxi ride at 3am, it takes hours to walk to the place de la concorde from montmartre.

Ahhh, memories.....

Job Update, I've got an Interview!! :-) Slightly off track from previous roles, as a Contemporary Dance Teacher. I studied a Dance Degree and never really persude it, perhaps thought I was too old. So whilstI have not been working I applied to something by off chance only a couple of evening hours and weekends.
My friend did quote earlier today "Dancer's always land on their feet" So fingers crossed I get something!! I'm really excited about this one. I can rehearse a dance routine whilst out in Ibiza too ;-)

Wiiii, vindicated by Gramps. About 34 years ago in RSQ 5 or something, I was told that La Defense was not a well-known Paris landmark. Been grumpy about it ever since.

Is Stu a prince?

Haha there's a couple of definitions for my Stu, I would describe him to be more the frog than the prince ;-)
Though there is a funny little tale when we were at his sisters wedding on holiday in Malta, his Nan who I adore often calls me Fiona, not really sure where she gets it from and it always makes me giggle, as I'm happy to go along with this. One time she shouts Fiona and Stu's mum turns round and says Sophie, my response was it's OK I'm going out with Shrek anyway!! :-) unaware that this was being filmed and is now part of the wedding footage!! Lol
Later that day we're swimming and a boy comes over to us wanting to talk and play, he asks us our names, I respond Fiona and he automatically called  Stu Shrek!! Whatever I or anyone else calls him, I love him dearly and he likes the attention really :-)

Today for me is all about a mini shopping spree, meeting Mummy Mercer & Sissy who I like to call Madam Mercer in town today. 3 ladies with the usage of our Dads credit card..... Wednesday in town = late night shopping....  Ouch!! It'll be nice to catch up!! Stu's already put an order in for some more gym t-shirts.... He even mentioned he thinks he will be spending an extra half hour at the gym most nights, I can't imagine what he gets up to ;-) lol

So if anyonehas any recommendations of places to go please let us know!!

shelley and I ate at buddah bar and it was by far the highlight of our trip to paris

Walk in or booking required? Not 100% sure on plans yet.

TAKE PLENTY MONEY

The Aviation Club now has a €100 entrance fee.

Wow!

It's a yearly membership fee, so you're only paying it the once.  That said, it'll expire end of December.  Their year is January to December regardless of when you register.

Ibiza turned out to be a good break... a couple of hiccups but all in all there's was plenty of Sun, Sand and Music :-)
Thursday night managed t get onto the guest list to see Tinchy Strider, there night clubs are amazing!! Plenty of half naked women dancing and lots of fit blokes without there tops on, so everyone was happy :-) Friday night I went home early 2:30am.... and just about to dose off 3x guys decided to bombard into my locked room and try and act rather crazy! I was pretty petrified, so decided to leave the Hostel I was staying in and roam the West End 3am with my suitcase looking for a hotel room, the only thing I managed to find were plenty of prostitutes! lol No luck in any sleep or finding a room until Sat morning in where I moved closer to Ibiza town and partied the night away in Amnesia!
Back to reality now - though I have an interview tonight for some bar work and I received my phone call from Gala finally!! Looking to interview from 8th Sept. In the meantime, Ibiza has given me the holiday blues so I've been applying for work abroad just for the rest of the season! I also have a free photo shoot next week for a Modelling Agency, which I'm really excited about! I just hope they like Zebra's, as I am tan / white / tan / white!

Exciting Times! :-)

Yeh we live together atm - though I don't think we'd ever stop each other from going away and doing things! It would only be until the end of the season if I was fortunate enough to secure a job out there!

Today has been a successful morning :-) I have had a phone call from Living Social (they're like GroupOn) I have a telephone interview at 1:30pm, which luckily doesn't include maths questions (that's the first thing I asked!) If I am successful then I shall be going to London this friday for a F2F interview! I really hope to get this job....... becasue it's working from home - there would be no need to work abroad and ALSO I would be allowed a little doggie :-) Chocolate Lab, called Fudge Brownie!! LOL

Fingers Crossed!!

YAY!!

Seeing as there were no maths questions.... I got through to the 2nd Interview!! Telephone Role tomorrow morning!!

If I'm lucky and get through then I'll be off to London to have a F2F interview.

This is my 3rd week without a permanent job, I'd really love this job - working from home / company laptop + ipad!!

My territory would involve Derby, so best get the maps out ;-)

I'll rephrase my quoted post. I don't think she should get a puppy yet.

With a far from stable future career wise I can't think of a worse time to buy a dog.

What if a job comes up that requires a 6 week training course in London?

What if a job comes up that requires you to work difficult hours?

What if you decide to go back to Uni?

Dogs need stability and at the moment you haven't got any.

Get yourself sorted then get a dog in my opinion.

If you really want one now have you thought about looking in to fostering? There's loads of dogs that need temporary homes while a permanent one can be found.

I'd imagine it's very rewarding and if your circumstances change you can just give it back. If your circumstances stay the same you may even have the option of providing a permanent home.

Interview went wellish... I have another role play to do again tomorrow on the phone and if I get through that then I'm in London Friday to meet the Directors and sell them my charm :-)
I got offered a Dance job abroad last night for a couple of months in Greece need to give them an answer tomorrow, still unsure what to do, as it doesn't pay great but would kinda cover my costs back here in the UK. I need some advice, as I feel my job hunting skills are progressively going all over the place and I don't seem to have a direct route, which I should / want to follow. I'm so undecided on what to do!!
Thoughts / opinions are greatly appreciated!! Oh an no longer thinking of getting dog!!

Back to reality, back to the UK.
Paris was fun, had an amazing time in Disneyland!! Although I'm no big fan of scary rides there's plenty to do there and plenty to eat so I was very happy!! Daytrip in Paris involved a bus tour sightseeing, which was lovely!! Paris has definitely been an eye opener that there are plenty more places to go and see the world!!
Though back to the job search... Tomorrow I'm in London at a photo shoot for a Modelling agency to see whether they'll take me on their books, they've invited me for a free half hour consultation!! So have to go and try it out, though no idea what clothes to take... They've suggested three outfits, so I suspect I need them to contrast we'll see!!
Thursday I have an interview for the famous, beautiful restaurant; Hart's Hotel, fpr the Wedding Coordinator's Role. This could be interesting!! Thursday Stu flies out to Malia for a week, so I'm planning my weekend already ;-)
I'm still awaiting to hear from Gala regarding the interview date, as it'll be around 8th September.
Bar work should commence this week also. All in all a good start to the week!! Now I'm going to need to get myself back to the gym sharpish, as those bingo wings won't look appealing!!

Oh he exists alright!! :-) You can usually smell the Guinness a mile off ;-)
Haven't been on here for a very long time.. So Stu and I went to Paris had a nice time, enjoyed the site seeing and really enjoyed EuroDisney! Came back to my first interview for the Wedding Planner role they then asked me back for a 2nd interview, which included creating a presentation (will find out this week) I also finally had my Gala Coral Interview and have been invited back for a 2nd interview there also! So I have my fingers crossed.
I'm currently working at Boots Head Office in Nottingham in the Pharmacy Department on a Boots Project - Employee Wellbeing Flu-Jab Scheme (offering flu-vaccinations to employers)
Last weekend we went Rock Climbing / Abseiling in Derby and I thought it was alright - I doubt Stu will be doing it again.... I don't think he enjoyed it very much. This was then folllowed by a night out with my girlfriends in Mansfield - one of Stu's mates thought he was on holiday in Mansfield he enjoyed it that much! lol I'm guessing there's going to be another trip suggesting to go there again!
This weekend is Stu's cousins Wedding, which I plan to get extremely drunk at!!
It'll be a year for me & Stu in November (god knows how we got that far!) lol So just in the process of thinking about plans and ideas of what to do......

To bump a thread on an Internet forum is to post a reply to it purely in order to raise the thread's profile. This will typically return it to the top of the list of active threads

So much has happened since I last really logged onto here, I managed to secure *the dream job* Wedding planner though sadly it wasn't what it seemed... therefore I decided to walk away and look for something else. Having been through a roller-coaster ride of a journey I am now officially a pro at Presentations / Psychometric Tests / Medical Questionnaires and Application forms. I managed to secure a role as a Business Development Manager for a company based in West Bridgeford - Nottingham. My role involves travelling nationally and wearing high heels again :-) So I am happy with the overall outcome, it has been tough and it's made me realise that I wil value this job more than anything! I start there this Thursday, so it is literally countdown for me now! :-)

Other than job hunting, eating rubbish and not exercising Stu and I went to Vegas for Christmas and New Year. it was an amazing experience, in total we went to see 5 shows! Peepshow, Phantom of the Opera, Circ De Soliel 'Le Reve' (My fav!), Penne and Teller and Frank Marino. Each show was special in it's own way! The costumes and scenery were immense! and i think Stu enjoyed it when they were serving drinks, whilst watching the performance! I don't remember all the names of the places we went to eat, though I remember have a lovely meal at Tao - there sort of cuisine isn't something I would usually go for... the service was impeccable and we often felt like royalty! I thoroughly enjoyed walking down the strip and amusing myself on the fruit machines (every morning) and played a little roulette here and there, i especially enjoyed 3x card poker!! $1 a drink - happy days!! for one of the days we decided to visit the outlet stores, i have never seen anything like it!! My favourite shop Ted Baker was there with this years designer clothes (a dress, which would have cost me in the uk £160 was $25!) Therefore I bought 4x of the same style different colours. I was in my element! By the end of the day Stu was dragging me around.... we actually ended up having to purchase another suitcase to go home with!!
We didn't visit the Grand Canyon or Old Vegas (an excuse to return again, me thinks!)

This year we have arranged a long weekend away in Spain at the beginning of March and i am really looking forward to going!! Doubtful we will see any daylight, as it's going to be a little messy!! other than that we have been speaking about potentially going to Sicily or even Mexico???? Ideas / opinions are welcome!! We know that Cos is out in Thailand and after having a conversation about fake mulberry handbags and learning about Birkin's I am quite apprehensive and would jump at the chance to go out there and see him!! So Cos don't come back until the end of summer!! So we can visit ;-)

It's my birthday at the beginning of March and Stu has kindly been organising a Birthday Meal Extravaganza at Opium in Nottingham. I'm excited, as I know the Russell has accepted his invite!! :-)

My New Year's resolutions are to eat healthy (cut out cheese) join the gym and attend at least 3x classes per week. Get stuck in with my new job!

I hope that people who read this have a great start to the New Year!
