What is the best way to move up the rankings, any tricks or is it just a matter of hitting the page as often as possible? Spread links to the page around other websites, the more important those websites and the larger number of click throughs from them, the better. "hitting the page often" won't help much, the algo does not work like that, Jim. 1) Lots of fresh content, daily if possible - MUST be original, & NOT C & P from other stuff. 2) Links to popular websites. 3) VERY IMPORTANT - Use plenty of SEO keywords. But for blogs, news, etc they need new posts often with keywords. Fresh new content is king! I was like 3rd in google for "1906" :) an 1st for "historical photos san francisco" Title: Re: Google rankings Post by: kinboshi on August 09, 2011, 08:47:04 PM Three basic elements :
1. HTML tags on each page. Title tags, heading tags, general copy on the page should be focused around the keyword phrases you want to rank for. 2. Internal linking & site structure. The anchor text for internal links should reflect what you're looking to rank for and URLs must be search engine friendly, and ensure you don't have duplicate content (the same pages on different URLs). 3. Inbound links. Arguably the most important factor, especially in competitive markets. Get links from other sites, and remember that all links are not equal. For example a link from the BBC website will help a lot more than one from an unknown blog which has very few inbound links itself. There's a lot more to it, but for most target phrases (the searches you want to rank well for in google) all the SEO you do will be focused around these three basic elements. There are a lot of resources on the web that you can use to learn about SEO, but you will also come across a lot of nonsense as well. Separating the wheat from the chaff can be half the battle for those new to SEO.
