Title: Stars HU 100NL Line check pls
Post by: Pinchop73 on August 12, 2011, 12:01:39 AM
Hi,

Please could you offer me advice on my line in this hand?

Villain shows up as a decent winner on ptr so obv I snap sit with him.

I've c/r him on the river a few times already, folded each time. Also doubled up when he 3b shoved 80bb's with pocket4's into my AQs.

Pre seems standard

Flop I'd c/r if you have an aggro dynamic going on to the point where he's gunna get the float on. Its 100NL though so perhaps even the good regs just sigh and fold KQ here as standard. Its really a gameflow thing. If you think he's gunna try and fuck with you if you c/r then do that, if not call is fine.

Turn isn't a great card for him to barrel so if he knows this his range is going to be weighted more towards value and semi bluff hands, both of which will call a raise and you've gotta start getting some money in this pot so I would definitely raise turn in the absence of villain having some sort of spazzy river barrel tendency.

As played I like the river c/jam. Run better next time.

Fold pre??

Really though? Maybe I should have said, he's 3x'ing his button like 97% of the time. I feel my holdings aren't quite weak enough to 3b, so I felt calling was fine as I'm way ahead of his button raising range.

He's folded nearly every time I've c/r him, whether it be on flop turn or river, yet every time I c/c he still tries to empty his clip.

I was mainly hoping to see if anybody would just call the river, I snapped shoved on him without really considering that he only needs a 7x hand to beat me?

hand plays really bad and you really open up yourself to get heavily exploited. if you calling all ax pre from the big then any decent reg will destroy you.

if ur table sdelecting well (playing bad players) like you should be then you really dont need to get into thin call downs and you should hands that play well post. against good players for whatever reason ur playing them, you're going to get abrrelled so much and put in the most awful spots.

surpirsied dan morgan said pre was fine as he is obviously hu genius, so maybe im spouting balls and he will come and correct me. but i know in the past from any coach ive worked with o any training video i've saw this would always be an insta muck. sometimes if they have a high fold to 3bet % you can 3bet, but in a 3bet pot it plays even worse (terrible reverse implides)

Pre I'd be folding vs some villains, defo folding a6 - a8o. I think peeling a2 - 5 is sometimes ok.

Dynamic and game flow dependant I'd cr flop or turn. As played river is a good shove, ul.

pretty sure pre flop should be a fold

pre call seems fine to me so long as your not  a fit or fold player.

given your reads of him emptying the clip too much, I would lean to calling a decent % of time also- with a plan to c/c turn and check river when turn and river cards fall that are good bluff cards for him (broadways).

As Dan says, the turn that comes is a bad one to barrel and kinda makes me think that a lot of his range is now either a made hand or draw rather than a bluff. If the turn card has changed the hand dynamic such that there are few outright bluffs in his hand then there is no point in setting a trap any longer and there are a multitude of reasons to raise (protection/value/rep draw/levelling/make him cautious of barrelling).

Almost never folding preflop. I think theres merits to playing the hand the way you did, although i wouldn't c/r the river when he pots it (c/c). HU you find lots of players barrelling turns like this for thin value since the hands you likely float on this board have good equity against a bare 7.

we're p;laying against a guy at 100nl that barrels "opens the clip" alot. why would we choose to play A4oop vs him? better question is why are we playing him at all?

Bumhunters itt. :p

I don't play to pay the bills. I play for the challenge, on the premise of self improvement. I know there are much better, much cheaper ways to improve. But its fun this way!

Personally i think its the best way to improve, i don't really watch video's and stuff but theres a lot to learn from understanding how/why winning players take certain lines.

HU is a joke now anyway, but with regards to ring games if it wasn't for a handful of non-bumhunters starting tbls the bumhunters would have no-one to leech off. I understand table selection is important but its a case of people playing above their skill level if they need to bumhunt to win and can't make money off the break-even/bad regs.

What is boc? Do people realize fish don't lose 10 buying in a session, but regs will? That's my experience of game selection anyway, in hu PLO fish will sit with 35bbs double and leave- regs that are used to playing fish will tilt and lose 10 buyins- playing regs is far more profitable than playing fish hu for me, and its not close

also, play 3k hands a day vs. ok players with smalll winrate or sit around all day waiting for random fish and play 300hands a day.
Obv try to never play 3k hands a day with a small expected loss rate :-P.

the fact hes good means we should fold even more pre

I really don't think you can just say 'he's good don't play him' at 100nl and expect to improve much

Just because he has a positive winrate doesn't mean that he isn't exploitable, you're just going to have to make adjustments in areas that you're not used to if you're never playing winning regs. His leaks aren't going to be as blindingly obvious as they will be vs a fish but they are there and can be exploited.

If he cbets too much - this is exploitable
If he double barrels too much - this is exploitable
If he raises 100% pre and doesn't peel 3bets enough - exploitable for an immediate profit pre
If he raises 100% pre and peels too many 3bets - this is exploitable

You can peel a TON more hands than conventional wisdom says you can vs guys that are too aggro on flops if you're going to play against it correctly.
