My girlfriend actually does this sort of thing for a living, so if you PM me some details and don't mind spending a little money, she/we may be able to help you with whatever you need.

SEO is pretty much all that matters. It's quite something to "work" it, too, it can produce incredible results. Steam Engine Optimisation is another thread altogether Title: Re: google listings Post by: Biddy 62 on October 20, 2011, 08:53:12 PM Is it for your own business? SEO is one way maybe cost you £150 a month to get on 1st page. I'm just considering it, recently set up a website myself but not getting enough views. I'm assured SEO is the answer.

Cowboy outfits selling SEO are ten a penny, & have a lower rating than Bank Staff, Estate Agents, & Policemen, even lower than Mods, in fact. DO NOT PAY THEM IN ADVANCE Title: Re: google listings Post by: kinboshi on October 21, 2011, 09:38:35 AM Is it for your own business? SEO is one way maybe cost you £150 a month to get on 1st page. I'm just considering it, recently set up a website myself but not getting enough views. I'm assured SEO is the answer. How does £150 to get you on the first page work? Anyone can get on the first page of results for an obscure search phrase that no one actually searches for and will bring in very few potential customers to your site. The site I work on at the moment attracts over 25,000 unique daily visitors, and these come in on the back of over 15,000 different search phrases - many of which are unique and no one else comes in to the site via that same phrase during the year. SEO is part of the marketing mix, and for small businesses and niche sites it can be a very cost-effective way of getting good quality traffic. Unfortunately, most people who claim to work in SEO or offer SEO services don't actually understand what it actually is and certainly don't know how to optimise a site correctly. Title: Re: google listings Post by: kinboshi on October 21, 2011, 09:50:26 PM So for £150 a month he's offering to provide what exactly?
Title: Re: google listings Post by: Bongo on October 22, 2011, 12:48:45 AM A listing in a directory that ranks well I imagine
Title: Re: google listings Post by: tikay on October 22, 2011, 12:54:06 AM So for £150 a month he's offering to provide what exactly? They will give him phrases like "electrician in Barnsley". The sooner proper regulation comes to the internet the better. Title: Re: google listings Post by: Biddy 62 on October 22, 2011, 07:56:56 AM What you suggest "Hairdresser in Camden" seriously what phrase would you suggest? Bosh trying saying something constructive or go and troll somewhere else.

Bosh trying saying something constructive or go and troll somewhere else. Eh? I'm trying to find out what he's offering for the £150? Is he going to promise to give your site the number 1 spot for those phrases for a period of 12 months in the natural listings? Is he guaranteeing a top 10 spot for 12months? Or is he going to use paid listings to guarantee this spot on the first page? Is he, like Bongo said, going to list your site on another site that ranks well for these phrases. Or is he going to add you to the Google Places, so you list on the map that shows in the results that appears on the page? This is of course, something you can do yourself, for free - and something I'd definitely recommend you do. These phrases are obviously good phrases to rank for if you think that's what your potential customers might be searching for (which a lot probably are I'd imagine), but will the work this company does bring in more than £150 worth of business for you, giving you a return on your investment. If it will, then it makes some sense to do it. Of course you could also go down a different route and potentially bring in more business, maybe for the same cost (or maybe a little more or less). I just wondered what he was offering that was different to the others that have contacted you in the past and you were weary of? But it's your business and your money to spend, so best of luck with it and hope it works out well for you. I'm suggesting, with the greatest respect, that you don't need to pay £150, £15, or even £1.50 for someone to sugggest basic stuff like that, you can do it yourself. And then compile a list of them, & include them in fresh content daily. Fresh content, using keywords, is essential. Title: Re: google listings Post by: Bongo on October 23, 2011, 12:17:20 PM A listing in a directory that ranks well I imagine Something like this: http://www.yell.com/s/electricians-barnsley-south+yorkshire.html Which is behind this lovely site in the rankings: http://www.electricianinbarnsley.com/ Title: Re: google listings Post by: kinboshi on October 23, 2011, 03:39:14 PM Ridiculous weighting on exact domain name match at the moment.
