Title: FM STORY: Leonard takes charge of Championship Newcastle Post by: pleno1 on October 24, 2011, 03:41:34 PM I After successful stints at both Tottenham and Manchester City, fans favourite Patrick Leonard has decided to come home and rescue the team that he supported from the age of 5.
Underperformed would be a kind word to describe the Toon Army's last season and they begin the 2013/2014 campaign in the Championship. The club were here 3 years ago and managed to sail back into the premiership and Leonard will be hoping to emulate Chris Hughtons success here. Leonard, none to his peers as Porridge Lionheart will inherit a squad with alot of ability. With that ability comes personalities and one of the main decisions Leonard will originally face is who stays and who goes. Internationals such as Yohan Cabaye and Haten Ben Arfa have already expressed their opinion and have stated that they would like to leave the club. Whilst the media predict a promotion place for the Toon Army, Leonard will no doubt have promotion via 1st place as his target and the board known to the fans as the "Cockney Mafia" have decided to change their business tactic and invest in this current squad giving the manager a generous £25 million transfer budget. With players set to leave the club, Leonard will be building the club from scratch and has spoke in a recent press conference about his plans to invest in young British talent. "I want the players to understand what playing in this shirt means. I remember when I was a kid going to St James Park and seeing Alan Shearer go through blood, sweat and tears for this football club." "I'm not interested in prima donna's. I want young, hungry British players who can learn from some of the more experienced lads and make this club a force to be rekowned with" Title: Re: FM STORY: Leonard takes charge of Championship Newcastle Post by: pleno1 on October 24, 2011, 03:46:43 PM Current Squad:
Goalkeepers: Tim Krul Stuart Taylor Jak Alnwick Defenders: Pablo Contreras Tamas Kadar Steven Taylor Jay DeMerit James Tompkins Davide Santon Shane Ferguson Danny Simpson Midfielders: Alexander Tzilios Yohan Cabaye David Fox Cheik Tiote Sylvain Marveux Glenn Whelan Mehdi Ahmed Hatem Ben Arfa Gabriel Obertran Haris Vuckic Forwards: Demba Ba Shola Ameobi Leon Best The guys in Red want to leave the club. I don't want anybody who isn't up for the battle and who may disrupt the dressing room. Last time the club were in this situation everybody pulled together and leaders such as Barton and Nolan came forward. I'm looking for similar strong personalities to develop here. Cabaye is worth 7.5m, Santon 4.5m, and Ba 3m. If I can get 15m for these it gives me a budget of 40m which is more than enough to cruise this league. Patrick Leonard hit out at the new "agent power" culture where he spoke about how recently an agent tried to take advantage of Newcastle desperaty for a proven goalscorer. "Listen, he knows, I know, he knows, I know that we need a goalscorer. It looks like Demba is going to be leaving us and somebody needs to fill that void. Shola is getting on and it looks like Leon (Best) will be going to Watford. The agent came in and demanded a 3 year contract and £60k per week. I understand experience is important so if I need to get somebody in who can help nurture the younger guys then I will do it. I thnk the capture of Ebanks is a great coup for the club and although this may not sound so ambitious to the fans who expect a "Shearer" signing, I am positive he will be a huge hit here. Title: Re: FM STORY: Leonard takes charge of Championship Newcastle Post by: pleno1 on October 24, 2011, 04:25:00 PM Had to name a captain for the season.
Steven Taylor was once reknowned for his erratic displays, over the last 4 years he has really matured as both a person and a player. He brings steel, determination and abit of class into the team. He is also Newcastle born and bred. He will be my voice on the pitch and Cheik Tiote will step in if Taylor gets injured. Favourite players to work with and are you planning on bringing any to the Toon? Who are your rival managers? Title: Re: FM STORY: Leonard takes charge of Championship Newcastle Post by: pleno1 on October 24, 2011, 06:04:03 PM What success did you have at Spurs I fell out with the board after they agreed to sell Bale to Manchester City in the January transfer window on the last day. I had no time to sign a replacement and I decided that I would not be the manager of a selling club. I went to City in the second season and managed to win the League and the league cup. I was out of the Champions League in the first knockout phase after being hammered by Bayern Munich who gave a German masterclass. Favourite players to work with and are you planning on bringing any to the Toon? I'm really excited about working with Ben Arfa and Obertran, they have phenominal pace and are really talented. They have had 2 years to adapt to English football and I think they will develop in this lower league similarily to how Colo did in the 2010 campaign. I have some young stars such as Tamas Kadar, Haris Vuckic and Gabriel Obertran who I expect to flourish against whatwe can describe as "lower class opposition". I also would like to thnk that Tim Krul can retain the number 1 shirt fro Holland despite being in the second tier, Title: Re: FM STORY: Leonard takes charge of Championship Newcastle Post by: NoflopsHomer on October 24, 2011, 07:26:36 PM Adam Campbell in the under 18's is ridic good, gonna be a star.

He's progressed nicely as a regular starter in the reserves, I want to put him on a high workload over the next 4 months and then give him 5 months of competitive football when the weather gets better and he can get confidence by scoring goals on nice days and green pitches. I don't want any 35 year old ex pro kicking his confidence out of him on a rainy December Tuesday infront of 800 fans. Title: Re: FM STORY: Leonard takes charge of Championship Newcastle Post by: pleno1 on October 24, 2011, 09:06:32 PM Huge first game this afternoon at St James Park, Leonard's men host Southampton who will be travelling up from the South East coast with optimism after being promoted last season.
Starting line up today is. GK Tim Krul RB Davide Santon CB Steven Taylor CB Tamas Kadar LB Shane Ferguson DMC Cheik Tiote CM Yohan Cabaye RWF Gabriel Obertran LWF Sylvain Marveux Playmaker Hatem Ben Arfa CF Demba Ba Subs: Jak Alnwick Sylvain Ebanks Blake James Tompkins Mohammed Abu Haris Vuckic Tactics: We expect to see Newcastle attacking from the front, in a pre match press conference Leonard told the fans that he would be bringing them back to the Keegan era, arguably the most exciting premiership side of all time. He has lined up with 4 attacking players meaning the importantance of Cheik Tiote goes up massively as he will be left alone to break up play at times. Yohan Cabaye has expressed his determination to get over some pre season doubts about his future at the club and the new magpies manager will be hoping he goes out and proves his heart is still in it. Title: Re: FM STORY: Leonard takes charge of Championship Newcastle Post by: pleno1 on October 24, 2011, 09:18:46 PM Terrible start from the black and whites who conceded an early goal after weak defending on the left hand side. Newcastle soon retaliated with some great interchange between Frenchmen Hatem Ben Arfa and Sylvain Marveux allowed the later to break free from the Saints defence and slot the ball home. On the 32nd minute Southampton once again caputalised on some poor defending.
Leonard has Sylvain Ebanks Blake warming up at half time who could make an impact debut here. Title: Re: FM STORY: Leonard takes charge of Championship Newcastle Post by: pleno1 on October 24, 2011, 09:39:46 PM So Ebanks Blakes introduction to the game hadn't gone to plan. After 77 minutes the toon army still trailed 1-2. Leonard watched from the touchline as fans fled the stadium in their numbers. The 24 year old kneeled down in his pinstriped suit as he tried to work out what wasn't clicking. He ordered his guys to play a higher defensive line and summer signing Blake to play more as a poacher rather than a deep lying forward.
On the 81st minute, Ferguson galloped down the left beating one and then beating two before throwing in a teasing cross. Demba Ba who had been pretty dismal so far latched on the end of it and reproduced his form from 2008 with a clinical striker. Leonard urged his troops on as the fans began to sing his name around the stadium. Finally Ebanks Blake latched on to a Demba Ba flick on and made no mistake. The last 5 minutes were almost unbearable to watch as Liam Rosenior produced long throw after long throw but with team-,mates Tamas Kadar and Steven Taylor throwing themselves infront of tackles and shots for eachother the geordies held on for the 3 points. #NEWCASTLEUNITEDWILLNEVERBEDEFEATED Title: Re: FM STORY: Leonard takes charge of Championship Newcastle Post by: pleno1 on October 24, 2011, 09:55:45 PM League Table after week 1

Newcastle dominated the game from the off and with a good counter attack approach managed to grab a half time lead courtesy of Demba Ba. The big man was visibly tired at half time as he had led the line after a somewhat indifferent pre season. Ebanks Blake came on for the second half and followed Ba's work rate and enthusiasm with a great performance. Hatem Ben Arfa changed flanks in the second half and was the creator of the 2nd and final goal of the game as Yohan Cabaye managed to get on the end of his countrymans cross. Sylvain will come in for Gabriel Obertan who has had a disapointing start. We have an almost brand new back four and I will be hoping they will be able to gel quickly. Have leftplayers who can change the match on the bench such as Yohan Cabaye and Sylvain Ebanks Blake incase things don't go as planned. Title: Re: FM STORY: Leonard takes charge of Championship Newcastle Post by: pleno1 on October 25, 2011, 08:59:18 PM Great performance from the boys.
We took an early lead from Ben Arfa when his shot was too hard to handle for the Charlton keeper. Haris vuckic who performed immensely throughout managed to make it 2-0 to take a good lead going into half time. Leonard used his big squad making 3 changes to strenghten the team physically as he expected a barrage of long balls and throw ins from Charlton defender Greg Halford. However, class prevailed and Sylvain Ebanks Blake and Paulo Contreas both scored great goals to make it 3 striaght wins for the new magpies boss. Although many would be quick to praise the forwards after such a scoreline, Leonard spoke solely about the impact of his back five. "Everything came from the defence today. They havn't played together before so it was so pleasing to see the tactics are running throughout the squad. We are starting to get a squad mentality where lots of players can fit in numerous positions. I switched Davide to the left side and put Steven to full back. Both were magnificant and I have given them both a well deserved day off tomorrow." Reluctantly, I've had to let Gabriel Obertan leave for Villireal (sp). He has a ridiculous amount of talent and has some real raw potential. Unfortunately however he didnt want to put the work in on the training pitch and adapt to the new triaing workload I gave him. I think its disappointing as he could have been a real hit here at St James Park, the fans love a quick, exciting winger, but unfortunately he will move to Spain where perhaps his personality will suit better. I have plenty of players who can fill the void so won't be a huge hit. I've placed a late loan bid for Alex Chamberlain from Arsenal who is now 20 and would become a good squad player. I am currently on a 3 month holiday where I have left John Carver and Peter Beardsley hold fort. I am spending every single second that I would on the game, researching and developing tactics. I came across this beauty http://www.thedugout.tv/community/showthread.php?t=76995, the guy has 6800 posts, so going to research and improve. Everybodies biggest weakness on FM is they think they know exactly what to do and they are the bee's knees. I am a ridicuously talented manager but its so important I realise I'm only 22 and got a lot to learn. I will print myself off UEFA certificates to give myself the highest coaching badges possible and come back in January hopefully with the gents at the top of the table and ready to get a fresh approach from the most exciting and hard working manager in the country. Liverpool took early 2 goal advantage and it was beginning to look abit like men vs boys. I changed things up and we startedto be more of an attacking force. A James Tomkings header gave us some us some positivity then in the second half we perfecteda shrot corner routine that we had worked on in training. Ben Arfa ran from the back post to pick the ball up from Cabaye who was taking the set piece, our team all rushed to the front post and with them the Liverpool team all followed. Shane Ferguson held his run at the back stick and Hatem picked him out and the young Northern Irish U21 star connected on the volley to put us all square. All the players looked delighted after the game and I fully expect to see 52,000 fans next week at St James. We have 2 away goals and Europe in sight! Also knowing we can go to a top 4 club and hold our own is very promising and its all down to the lads hard workin training. Title: Re: FM STORY: Leonard takes charge of Championship Newcastle Post by: pleno1 on October 28, 2011, 10:01:05 PM The guys are stilljumping up and down from Thursday night. Back to the grind though, we have Coventry at home this afternoon and will have to make sure the players are in the right physical condition against a team who are fighting for survival. The Liverpool home leg is on the back of everybodies mind, but the objection at the start of the season was promotion not to win a cup. I'm going to make sure the guys give a great performance today and please the fans who have been brilliant all season when they could easily have turned on myself and the board.
Title: Re: FM STORY: Leonard takes charge of Championship Newcastle Post by: pleno1 on October 28, 2011, 10:06:54 PM What a magnificant afternoon. Coventry came at us and we were really not ready for the physical enslaught that we would receive. I put out a changed line up to try and get all the guys to fight for a place in both this team and next seasons (hopefully) premiership team.
Shola Ameobi scored a hat trick in a great 3-2 win. The big man is one of the most loyal servers at the club. He has struggled when pressure has been put on his shoulders and I prefer Demba for long consistent runs iun the team, however Shola has my full confidence and I am absolutely delighted he repaid me today. For the first time in 5 years I heard the fans singing his name. I firt saw him playing in the Europa Cup against Hibs. Luka Modric was threatening to leave back then and because of being possibly cup tied to potential transfer options, Harry had no choice than to play Jake in the middle of the park. Jake absolutely bossed the match and I was impressed with both this physical presence and his technical ability. I will be getitng Cheik Tiote to take him under his wing and turn him into an England international. I was able to get him for 400k, absolute bargain!

Almsot every single one of my players is "Wanted" by clubs all around Europe. I'm trying my best to hold onto each and every one of them. So far nobody has come tome with concerns and all I'm worrying about is consecutive victorys so that we can achieve the pre season goal that was promotion.
Just played the Smoggies away. Armed with gas masks, I decided to name a really experienced side and the average age ended up being 28. Class prevailed and we managed to come out victorious with three really good goals from Hatem Ben Arfa (2) and Demba Ba. Some sloppy defending cost us a much wanted clean sheet, but its nice that we got some confidence against our local rivals 3 days before the big game. I have some huge selection issues for Wednesday, shall we go for it? Shall I keep the experienced heads? I think I'll sleep on it. Doesn't look like Boro will be joining us in the Premiership next year. GL in the cup. Title: Re: FM STORY: Leonard takes charge of Championship Newcastle Post by: pleno1 on October 29, 2011, 01:22:19 AM Great effort from the gents this evening. We went down to an early Luis Saurez goal, Liverpool played a full strength team and it looked like this could be a one sided game.
I was praying for half time to come and I got the lads in the changing room and demanded that they roll up their sleeves and get stuck into these prima donnas, how do we expect to compete next year if we give people too much space. YES we have done well this year because our flair players have performed, but we have given teams very little respect and no time on the ball. Any team I manage plays the same style as Barca, attractive possesion football, but when thye havn't got the ball each and every one of them works their arse off to get it back. I introduced Shola after half time and he madean instant impact, scoring after 40 seconds of being on the pitch. Liverpool soon took the lead again through a Charlie Adam freekick that Tim Krul had no chance with as it cruely deflected off the brave Danny Simpson wh was making his 3rd appearence of the season after replacing theinjured Davide Santon. Anyway, semi final is a great result. Onwards and upwards to the premier league. Fantastic 4 months from the guys. At the end of January we picked up injurys to Yohan Cabaye and Davide Santon. We only had two stirkers fit, one wanted to go and the other ws Shola Ameobi. I put my faith in the young guys and they repaid me 10x over with some fantastic displays, the 5-1 demolishing of QPR at Loftus Road was probably the highlight of the season for me. Both the Under18's and the reserves won their respective leagues too, the club is going forward and I am absolutely delighted that I'm in charge here. Going to be a super busy summer, players that I brought in for squad depth such as Glen Whealen and Sylvain Ebanks Blake will have to depart the club. I will be looking to get a few loans in from the bigger sides and get some young purchases too. I have a 5 year plan at this club and its brilliant to see the first year go exactly how I expected. YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yZEKjAN9Ahg We have also secured the championship aswell, going up as the champions will give us great confidence going into next season. I have spoke confidently this year, speaking about "next year in the premiership" some may think i was being a little over ambitious as nobody is certainties in the championship, but I really had the confidence in players such as Ben Arfa and Cheik Tiote to be a class apart. I have been super impressed and delighted with the progression of youngsters Tamas Kadar, Shane Ferguson, Tim Krul and Jake Livermore, for me they are the heart behind this club for the next 5 years and I really hope that we can become an established premier league team by the end of next season. Title: Re: FM STORY: Leonard takes charge of Championship Newcastle Post by: pleno1 on October 29, 2011, 03:35:21 PM Just been offered the role to succeed Sir Alex Ferguson as Manchester UNited's manager.
I am absolutely privilidged that such a huge club would consider me with such an important and tough role at such an early stage in my career. I thought long and hard and after speaking to my girlfriend Ingrid, I decided that I wouldn'tleave Newcastle for any club in the world, oincluding the red devils. I have just purchased Victor Anichibe from Everton who will eventually succeed Demba Ba as my powerful striker. I've brought in Fabian Delph from Villa who has improved hugely over the last 2 years due to his exposure to first team football. We are currently on a 18 game undefeated streak, hopefully this continues into the prem. Hoping pre season is smooth and we dont pick up any big injurys I'm a big believer in getting the squad ready before the first game of the season as being togehter at pre season, doing press ups in the mood together etc builds great team spirit rather than having to gel with new guys you've never met. LETS DO THIS #Premierleague Just signed a new contract that will keep me here till the end of 2012, the board thought I deserved it after showing loyalty to the club (turning Mn UNited down) and bringing good success (winning championship and semi final of league cup last year) Title: Re: FM STORY: Leonard takes charge of Championship Newcastle Post by: Josedinho on October 29, 2011, 11:39:28 PM Any aims for the season?

Need to add something in defence and midfield before the start of the season. Great performance today. We never really looked like we wouldnt come away with 3 points. Great team-play by my young guns and Fabian Delph absolutely bossed the midfield. Midfield was basically all new signings and it was great to see them gel so well. HBA is currently injured and its going to be hard to fit him back in. Defence looked rock solid too. We sit joint top of the league and extend our unbeaten record to 20 now. Title: Re: FM STORY: Leonard takes charge of Championship Newcastle Post by: pleno1 on October 30, 2011, 01:06:16 AM Tough second match of the season, we are playing Liverpool away at Anfield. Going to stick with the guys who were so impressive against WBA. Liverpool hvae an all star team so its going to be really difficult. Going to try and run the midfield though as Charlie Adam is getting on a little bit
Liverpool's forward line really worries me and I have been working on defensive positioning over the last few days with Steven and James to try and be ready for anything they have to throw at us. Unfortunately Valbuena is out injured, so had to reshuffle the pack and put new 18 year old signing Diarra in the AM slot. We went down to an early goal after our nemesis from the league cup Oscar Codoza screamed in a 40 yard strike. Liverpool put us under emmense pressure but we managed to hold tight to half time. I introduced Alex Chamberlain, Victor Anichibe and Shane Ferguson at half time. UNfortunately due to lack of match practive, Victor pulled a muscle and we were down to 10 men. I gave the guys a motivating shout from the touch line and everybody seemed to raise their game 10% and finally we got what we [ ] deserved. Great point away from Anfield and both the fans and the board are delighted. So many teams try to line up with big strong players but I will be doing the opposite. Play Man United at their own game and they will tear you apart. If we keep the ball on the floor and keep it a footballing match then we should be able to get the points today. We will also be wary on our tackles so that we dont give away any stupid free kicks around the box.

In the end, a pretty disappointing result. We were 1-0 up at half time due to a Pedroza strike after good interplay between our midfield. I changed tactics at half time to try and take further control of the game but it backfried when Stoke managed (for once) to get behind our back line and Steven Piennar scored a header at the back post. Nevermind #Newcastleunitedwillneverbedefeated Title: Re: FM STORY: Leonard takes charge of Championship Newcastle Post by: pleno1 on October 30, 2011, 09:00:47 PM urrently undefeated in the premiership which extends our 20 game unbeaten run at the end of last season. Today we face Arsenal at The Emiratres. They are a great team who I fully respect. Theo Walcott is absolutel electric and I hope Davide and Tamas will be able to control him.
Fabian Delph picked up an injury in training so I have brought in Jake Livermore to fill the box to box role. Valbuena will come into the team too meaning Shane Ferguson makes way. Title: Re: FM STORY: Leonard takes charge of Championship Newcastle Post by: pleno1 on October 30, 2011, 09:22:41 PM Disappointing 2-0 loss to the Gunners, we matched them very well and took an early lead only for it to be disallowed for a dubious offside. They scored via Gervinho who was too fast for our back 4 and then as we attacked the game spread and they hit us on the counter to get the 3 points.
Nevermind, good effort but room for improvement.
