If Person A bets on the river and Person B calls. Person A calls his hand as A high but does not show his cards. Person B shows his cards and is the winning hand. Can Person A muck his hand without showing his cards?

The dealer should protect the muck until the hand is over. When "fold" is declared, a hand is mucked by the dealer. At showdown, both hands should be tabled in order, and it is important to remember that cards speak. A player saying "ace high" is not a declaration of their hand. As far as general etiquette goes, the winning hand is normally tabled immediately and the other hand can be mucked quietly. If the player winning the pot asks to see the losing hand, this should be honoured, and the dealer should prevent the cards from being mucked in this situation.

I'd want player A to be made to show if I was player B and had tabled King high to win.

I don't know why people don't just turn their flippin' cards over when they get called, it would save a lot of time  >:(

taking it 1 step further, if B asks to see A's cards and A misread his hand, once turned over if A has better hand they win
