Title: What odds could I get on writing an Xmas no1/top 10 single? Post by: outragous76 on November 16, 2011, 06:38:18 PM What odds do people think I could get on this?
I have no music writing pedigree, and let's fix the year as Xmas 2012 I would need a minimum of 33% writing credit to win bet. I can't play any instruments personally Title: Re: What odds could I get on writing an Xmas no1/top 10 single? Post by: redarmi on November 16, 2011, 08:02:20 PM Generally firms will just quote a generic 100-1 on things like this. Be pretty surprised if you would get better than that and some might quote shorter.

There is no real back story. In my 20's I always wrote lyrics to songs, i guess you might call them poems (but they were songs to me), and my brother occasionally used them for his band. I love xmas, I have always loved xmas songs, and have often thought of writing one. I think I could probably do a good job of it too. Thats all really - i guess a bet would just be incentive Title: Re: What odds could I get on writing an Xmas no1/top 10 single? Post by: celtic on November 16, 2011, 09:31:17 PM A bet would be the incentive? What about the fame, glory and prob never have to work again?

What about the fame, glory and prob never have to work again? Indeed. Your kids would never have to work again and in years to come they could effectively adopt a young boy and save him from bullying and embarassing situations. What about the fame, glory and prob never have to work again? Def not in it for the fame, but yes the money and achievement! The writing bit is easy, it's getting into the music industry which would be the hard work Title: Re: What odds could I get on writing an Xmas no1/top 10 single? Explain please What would happen if I put a two pound coin in every cd case and sold for £1 like it's weird. things are weighted differently...so... buy on itunes, you might 'sell' 1.2 copies, buy in tesco, maybe 0.6 copies, but only one copy per two minutes counts (just examples)...so imagine you and I are in our local tesco and buy it at the same time. You even buy another copy for the dog. Tesco sells 3 copies in those two minutes, but only 0.6 copies were sold. stuff like that. (edit: that's how it works in lots of europe, I'm assuming same in UK but can't be sure) http://c0903002.cdn.cloudfiles.rackspacecloud.com/3189-official-singles-chart-rules.pdf --> read that ;) you defo can't promote by having anything worth money inside. Post by: redarmi on November 17, 2011, 09:25:17 PM Wasn't it New Order that made the packaging for the Blue Monday 12" so elaborate that it ended up costing them a quid for every copy they sold. It went on to be the best selling 12" ever...talk about run bad.
