I used to love nothing more than playing live, now i cba and can't think of many worse things than sitting at a poker table for 5/6/7 hours plus, I just get bored shitless.

I just realised I haven't been to DTD in over a month and I'd much rather fire up half a dozen MTT's on Party or wherever.

I even tried taking my iPad but I still get bored after a bit of surfing and stuff.

Has anyone else been through this change?

Its quite odd. I am happy to travel for over a day to get to Las Vegas and sit playing for 12 hours plus a day all the days I'm there but I just can't be arsed to go to any of the 3 cardrooms in my own City at the moment.

I love it 90% of the time.

I take iPad/book with me for tourneys cos they bore me to tears.

It's all about having fun/lively people at the table willing to have a laugh/gamble. As dave would say, you have to have ENERGY!

I still reckon many of you young lads will get bored with it eventually when you been playing for 10 years or so like me.

It's funny how different I feel about this. I get bored shitless playing online poker, staring at a screen missing all the banter and tells, not to mention being rushed into making a decision. Click, click, click, it does my head in..

Having said that, even I reach a threshold live when I get a bit bored and this is usuallly when I put the headphones on, or just go home.

You are probably bored of playing the same game, in the same way, as much as anything. I hazard a guess that if you played PLO or stud live then this would keep you motivated and less 'bored'.

I also agree with Alex that tourneys are boring. All that waiting to get it in preflop and watching the clock. No thanks...

Have you played 10 years full-time? Cos I've played almost 2000 hours of live poker in the last 12 months, could be more than a recreational player has played in 10 years and I ain't bored, except right now, friggin card dead!

The addictive power of poker - it bores so many people, & yet they still play it. Powerful thing, addiction.

As someone said, try playing Omaha, or Stud, you'd be surprised at how much more thinkage is required, enjoyable thinkage too.

No course not always a recreational player, but I've gone through phases playing shit loads, albeit not in the last year or so.

Don't play a lot but I enjoy live poker. Even if I don't know anyone to talk too, there's always interesting characters to listen too.

Never get bored playing poker live but hold em ain't as much fun as sitting playing dc

live PLO if its 9handed and doesn't have tons of action (mainly two guys playing every hand) then its sinfully boring

Live poker gets really boring for me after a while, as does too much time online, if you do anything for loads of time its gonna get bored at points

If  live games are good and loads of action then its the best, I get tilted by really nitty players who play 2 hands an hour and then moan about being bored.

LOL u can be assured I don't fit into that category. Nits are the scurge of the game and are what can make a game boring and shit to play in. Everyone should be forced to play x hands per hours,  if they don't have to pay x BB's into the next pot at the end of the hour  :D

I get bored playing donkaments so don't bother now. Would rather go and play some live PLO instead.

I used to love playing live or online back when I first quit working, I guess it was a novelty and obviously the fact everyone was giving money away helped.

I always enjoyed live because it's fun interacting and there can be so many interesting characters about. As said there is always someone with a story to tell, if you end up at a table with a bunch of morons you can always throw the earphones in and pretend you're listening to music.

In the last few years since I started working I can rarely motivate myself to play online and will generally only flash up a few little tourneys on a Sunday when I'm railing the NFL.

I always go to Vegas intending to play a good schedule of tournaments then get so exciteable at the thought of eating sick food and just getting smashed all the time it goes out of the window. The year just gone I played 3 tourneys in 2 weeks and that was 2 more than I did the previous year when there for 3 weeks.....

I think after reading about Tikay and Lil Dave's exploits in PLO cash this last month I might try to learn PLO and HiLo so I can play those in Vegas next summer. The thought of being able to sit/leave as and when I please is so appealing when there is so much other stuff to do.

I find that once I sit to play I'm fine and really enjoy it, it's just getting to the table that I struggle with :D

yup, just like loads of stuff, motivating urself to do it is wayharder thn actually doing it

i just think poker in notts is not as fun as it was 4-5 years ago.we had some great nights back then and it never felt boring

I had one of these on my table yesterday. Abso full of shit and droned on. Even I got my headphones on but could still hear him because I don't have anything with music on to listen to.

Anyway he gets 5 bet by a kid who had dem aces and declares that he is folding QQ. He does a fancy muck with his cards but they hit the dealers hand and flop over revealing k 2 off. :)

never get bored playing live.
Also never read, listen to music or watch TV at the same time.
There's always something interesting happening at the table if you look close enough.

I find online much harder to focus on.

I'm currently grinding 6 MTT's with a bit of music in the background, no doubt will watch x factor/I'm a celeb later. My senses are currently fully stimulated  ;D

ha, I don't think anyone who's been at my table would say I'm anything other than good for the game//[ ] boring. pleno and poss alex can confirm.

I am always happy to drive and play as many live tourneys as I can, but can never be bothered to fire up my Lappy anymore and grind it out online, always seem to find something else I would rather do. Hoping it changes though.

That's my point
playing live, I have no problem at all giving the game my full attention.
Online, I multi-task.
When I really focus online like I do live, I win more.
Struggle to do that though.

If you get a good table with people up for banter etc it can be good fun but that very rarely happens.

I actually have somewhat enjoyed playing live in the last couple of years, as I have basically retired from playing in the uk. The live poker I do play is when I am on holiday and the fact I am not familiar with the surroundings and often get into interesting conversations as I am the "foreigner" in the room adds to it.

The idea of grinding it out at home is a false economy, given it is all about the hourly nevemind the various tilting things about live poker.

Even the douches had a certain comedy caricature value about them back then. There were some proper comedy degens too then like taffy etc. :D

I remember Taffy getting a 3 month ban for lighting up and smoking about 3 days into the smoking ban. He just sat there and refused to move or put out his roll up like it was Gala's decision to introduce a nationwide ban

My favourite Taffy story is when he was going on as per usual about how well-hung he was and little Hanif voiced his opinion that he had more to offer in that department than Taffy did. Taffy said therer was absolutely no chance of that being possible.

I asked Taffy whether he was referring to length or girth. Quick as a flash he replied "weight".

Live Poker in Leeds is ridic and boring. Everyone seems to have watched a bit of poker on TV and wants to spend 2mins making every decision, its so slow. Add to the fact randoms at every table wants to shit talk in £10 freezouts no wonder the Leeds poker scene is summed up by GalaBlobs place of work.

yup. I sometimes go to the tournaments at gala, I sit there, dont talk about poker, make nice conversation and am really nice and pleasant and get treated awfully and shouted at.

when bigger cash games run its way more fun, should try naps out the game is really banter over there

My fave live sessions are the super DEGEN ones that go on for 16/17 hours.

Several times in leeds we start playing at 9pm, play till 4/5am then change to dealers choice and play 4/5 handed then at 8am when naps shuts move to gala and play there till 2/3pm. Sicknessss  :P

Perhaps mst Vegs card rooms have it right ie customer service games etc and MOST British card rooms don`t ?

Loads of soft games at the lower end($1/2) and a $4 cap on the rake are fairly attractive too...

I think the main problem in a lot of british card rooms is that people with no interest/knowledge of poker are in charge a lot of the time, I know in some leeds casino the staff running the poker are often just pitt/management staff and they really don't care. They always saying they wanna get X game and Y game but they don't give the staff they have with the enthusiasm to make it happen enough of a chance imo

Whenever I go into a certain casino 7/10 times we get big games running and its so easy they just need to get a couple of enthusiastic guys to run and organise it and all games will be better, better spread of games, better atmosphere, better rulings and so on.

I think Vegas do it better cos they have more resources to throw at it.

Right now I am so bored with live poker it is silly. I am about to stop playing it and just play online which seems far more enjoyable and basically takes up no time (as it is just time you would have been basically doing nothing anyway).

I like what goes on around poker, the people and the banter etc but actually sitting at the table, I have no interest at all. It's so slow and people take forever to make easy decisions and then make ridiculous plays and try to justify them as though they were right. Then you have to sit there and be all nice about it. It's not like you can just turn chat off :-)

One of the biggest tournaments I played this year I was doing quite well, went on a break and sat talking to some people at the bar and when I went back to the table felt like I was missing something so made some silly plays got knocked out and could not have cared less (was actually quite pleased).

If anybody does have any tips on making live poker more interesting as well as the ones here then I would like to know them as I really want to keep playing because I do enjoy what goes on around poker but the game itself is, at the moment, the most boring thing I can imagine (when taken seriously).

I might force myself to go and play the super 50 at DTD in a bit, we'll see.

Turned out not a bad evening in the end once I GTFO the tourney.

Got piss drunk and shipped 600 playing PLO which was nice, ran good obv which is important in PLO. The game was 5/6 handed mostly which was fun and couldn't be any better for me as I play 6 max PLO all the time online.
