Title: Kindle/Tablet Post by: Raman on November 25, 2011, 05:36:38 PM Hello all,
I have asked the other half to get me a kindle for my Christmas but she has said to me she is unsure what to get and has started giving me different prices for the normal kindle, kindle with wifi and one with wifi and 3g or something. Now I am a bit of a technophobe, I have had a go on the iPhone/iPad and like these. Well sort of. But for the price they go at I don't think I could justify asking for one for Christmas. Are there tablets out there that have different type of apps than may interest me. To give you an idea of likes and dislikes I like to have access to social media, poker and betting sites and my e-mail as well as reading moderately maybe 2 or 3 books a month. Thanks in advance for any responses/help. Title: Re: Kindle/Tablet Post by: mulhuzz on November 25, 2011, 06:11:26 PM sounds like you want a tablet, and defo not a kindle.
you can get some decent Android tablets for the price of a kindle with some good research. They are usually chinese and have names like 'FlyTouch III'. I'll post some links in a bittt edit: http://www.jexaa.co.uk/ - my dad bought from these guys and was v impressed. I have one with 3G and find it's an absolute blessing whenever I finish a book whilst lying in bed. A couple of clicks and I have a new one :) Same when we were on holiday in Cyprus, I though 6 books would last me for a couple of weeks but ran out, one click..problem solved. You don't need the 3G to order a book when you're in bed if you've got wi-fi though. Only 6 books to go on holiday with? Palestine!!!! Read Chris Evans' Autobiography as well...what a great read that is...but yeah, will have to take 10-12 books at least next time we go on holiday to some sunny hell hole. Title: Re: Kindle/Tablet Post by: Graham C on November 26, 2011, 09:53:14 AM I think you can live without 3g on a Kindle. For a device that holds approx 1400 books, I'm pretty sure you can download enough to keep you going before going on holiday.

It's handy when you're not at home but are in bed wanting to read something. Not sure if it extends to Palestine though ;) Title: Re: Kindle/Tablet Post by: kinboshi on November 26, 2011, 09:55:04 AM I think you can live without 3g on a Kindle. We have one interesting holiday once a year (New York again next year...YAY) and a sunshine holiday later in the year. Title: Re: Kindle/Tablet Post by: Raman on November 26, 2011, 11:16:01 AM Err so kindle or tablet?
The mrs was telling me you can get an app for the iphone that lets you buy and read books are there apps for tablets that would let me do this as well? Title: Re: Kindle/Tablet Post by: RED-DOG on November 26, 2011, 11:24:13 AM Tablet needs to be backlit, kindle doesn't. Ergo, kindle battery lasts much longer. Fact.

Personally I found the screen far to small to read books on but you may like it. I think Apple have thier own book thing too. Good deal on a Blackberry Playbook here http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/blackberry-playbook-tablet-pc-16-gb-10647929-pdt.html. Personlly I'd avoid the cheap import versions with unknown names. Fact. *Waits for gatso to authenticate* Spot on. You can read a book on a tablet, the same way you could use a normal pc. For reading books, the kindle fits the bill. If you want to do other stuff as well as read you could get a tablet instead, or the ideal solution, get both.
