Title: 6max cash Theory, help a beginner please Post by: cambridgealex on December 01, 2011, 04:38:16 PM Have got HEM up and running and it's brilliant. Noticing some early problems, losing money from the blinds. I know this is inevitable, but I'm losing A LOT!
My 3bet stats seems to be fairly off the wall, 13.3% from the sb, 9% from the bb over 1400 hands. My question is what to do with the following hands (100bbs deep) when faced with a button or cutoff open from a reg. SMALL BLIND a) KJo, KQo b) K9ss - KQss QJ, QTss c) ATo - AQo d) Ax suited e) 22-77 f) 88-TT g) suited connectors I'm folding 22-66 from the sb to a raise almost every time. I'm 3betting all the suited kings in b) and big aces in c) and suited aces (d) usually just peeling 88, 99, 3betting TT sometimes. Not sure what to do with suited connectors and big kings. BIG BLIND same thing sort of question, though I'm more tempted to peel all of those hands rather than 3b or fold. Peel a lot of Kx suited and Q9-QTss, J8ss as well, should I be folding these? I'm used to playing 200-500 bbs deep live cash so am used to not folding Thanks :) Title: Re: 6max cash Theory, help a beginner please Post by: smashedagain on December 01, 2011, 04:48:24 PM Have got HEM up and running and it's brilliant. Aside from the obv stuff like tight reg vs loose reg opening ranges, there are major differences in how 2 players with the exact Vpip/PFR react to 3b's.
some 'regs' call 3bets in position with 70%of their opening range thus big card value has a lot a of EV and KJs is pretty much a premium 3betting hand. Other regs will fold or 4bet and hardly ever call in which case 3betting KJs becomes a bit of a waste- 3betting Ax/Kx is usefull vs this guy though thanks to card removal. I would pretty much always 3b AQ+/JJ+ in a blind vs steal situation, with everything else being substituted in and out. I almost never 3b small pocket pairs unless i know someone is super 4bet happy and I plan to make a big profit by 5b shipping. The problem with 3betting suited connector type hands is that 100bb doesn't allow much room for barrelling or tailoring bet sizes much and so it's not always easy to fully realise fold equity. 3b from the blinds seems high to me. All player dependent, if you get your HUD setup right, you can snap make these decisions easier, I use BRS' HUD which helps a lot. Look at their steal, fold to 3b stats etc. To stem the leak for now can only say nit it up from the blinds and widen up late position ranges to accomodate the amount of open folding from SB to late position raises. Playing a pot IP is so much easier. Title: Re: 6max cash Theory, help a beginner please Post by: TommyD on December 01, 2011, 07:40:12 PM Thanks Ged, so what is the stat I should look for? Fold to 3b %? I know the question wasn't addressed to me but if I could butt in and say that's a vital stat but not without a flaw. I don't use HEM but the last time I used a trial I'm sure there was no stat detailing a positional focus to the fold to 3bet. If they have a very high fold % anyway then I'm 3betting a huge amount out of the blinds. Addressing your original post, it is so player dependant. You need to be aware just how often the C/O or BTN are opening pots because many very good regs are doing so with a vast range. I can't give a definite percentage to the hands you asked, purely because it's down to player situations but as a general comment I'm 3betting from the blinds all of those hands 65% of the time (against the loose and the weak) and calling 35% of the time (against all but the weak, sometimes when I've being 3betting too much I just mix it a little). The middle suited cons would be more weighted towards the call at 100BB deep just because of the lack of post flop wiggle room. I might just fold some of the Ax suited as well OOP. 6 Max as you know is a lot more aggressive than full ring. IMO you have to really open the game up. I'd also suggest trying to find some deeper 6max tables if pos. Title: Re: 6max cash Theory, help a beginner please Post by: JK on December 01, 2011, 07:53:06 PM Imho, alot of these are gonna turn into cockwaving wars in the long run vs regs. Sounds pretty obvious but combine VPIP/PFR/Fold to 3b/4b/5b stats to get an answer. Not gonna tell you how to interpret because Im sure you know already :P.
Would also like to hear opinions on this, as it seemed to be a bit of a leak I developed after a while (having a break atm but need to get it sorted if it is!). Personally, as I said, I find myself in cockwaving contests or end up levelling myself. Its obv best to be more aggressive but if youre against regs that are putting you in difficult 4/5 bet spots, it might be better to be more passive.
