Title: ethic question
Post by: pleno1 on December 04, 2011, 05:33:29 PM
im playing 5 comps on stars. wanna go to the shop for 10 mins, i ask a friend to "watch/play" my tables. this ok or not?

same thing but cash games?

Fine with me. Few times when i have been deep but can't stay awake I have had ppl end it off for me. I know a lot of ppl don't like it, but in real life i think its fine.

Cash games i would probs just sit out. More so as I am likely to come back to no roll.

it's against the rules, why does it matter what your personal ethical stance is?

having someone play your account in cash is just multi accounting.

sit out the tournaments or plan your grinds better?

for cash games its not on as you can sit out and it doesn't cost you any money - therefore there is no need to have someone take over.

For tournaments it wouldn't bother me as long as you werent someone who made a habit of it.

As Andrew has already noted - the Thread title is incorrect - it should read "Rules" not "Ethics". One is a personal choice, the other is mandatory.

And "it was just a few hands while I had a slash" cuts no ice. Where to draw the line?

1 minute for a slash?

3 minutes for a #2?

10 minutes for a smoke?

30 minutes to pop down the off-licence?

90 minutes to watch a game of football?

Soon, the guy who plays 24 Tables for 18 hours per day wants a day off, & pleads "it was only one day".

There are no excuses for it, the Rules are there to protect us, not the Online Room.

Just a bit. Punters - my Table oppos - would not be happy if I let a really good player "sit in" on my account for 5 minutes & who then won a nice few bob.

yes ending a tournament is far worse but why would u need to pop to the shops for 10 mins on the final of a tourney?

What prompted the question then, pleno?

Title: Re: ethic question

Considering the money is paid out at the end someone watching your holecards in the first 5 mins is alot less bad then someone playing out the end of a donkie.

having said that if you know the rules you know you are breaking them.

First it's ethics, then it's ethic, pretty soon it becomes ethi, and then before you know where you are it's eth.

Where do you draw the line?

...or even if you don't know the rules. Ignorance is not an excuse, only mitigation.

ya but I have alot more time for someone who has no idea of the rules rather than someone who knows the rules then says its ok though because it's on the internet and no one can see me and personally I dont mind it.

What prompted the question then, pleno?

friend who plays NL50, was "looking after 8 tables of NL1K when his friend went for a smoke.

I thought i posted but it must not have been submitted.

If you take the stance that the rule is a rule and it should not be broken then the circumstance of when it was broken becomes irrelevant, be it at the beginning, middle or end of a tournament.

Obv personally I see the rule as pretty much unenforceable,  if i got caught then fair dos i take my punishment accordingly. Just like to point out it is not something i do as standard just a few times in the past when i have been unable to keep my eyes open after a long grind. would i do it in the future, almost certainly. I personally can't see the harm in it really under the circumstances mentioned, the fact it is a rule is not enough for me to personally follow it, i have to see some logic or common sense behind a certain rule. Unfortunately for my career in the forces i stood by this way of thinking quite firmly.

in cash it's completely not on.

in tournaments it might be ok if you've had a power cut and phone a friend to log in whilst you drive to his place or something.

Well that is a bit different to your OP, which said......

The thread absolutely intrigues me. Surely you of all people know it's against the rules, & if your mate is experienced enough to 8 Table he would also know it's against the Rules?

Did the site that you or he were playing on ('Stars?) not have a "Sit Out" facility?

'Curiouser and curiouser!' cried Alice (she was so much surprised, that for the moment she quite forgot how to speak good English);

My point was anyway that what others think is (should be) irrelevant to whether something is right or wrong.
