Title: Help Me Cook!
Post by: Raman on December 08, 2011, 05:20:30 PM
I was supposed to be cooking dinner this evening and have totally forgot about it, so rather than put my hands up I need to come up with something sharpish.  I will list the ingredients I have in the fridge and cupboard below and I am looking for some help to create something tasty.

I'm hoping there may be a chef out there??

BRB with a list!

Piece of cake.

Chicken curry with rice.

Cut the chicken into small chunks, fry in the oil, set aside.

Cook the rice, al dente, keep tasting it, just for 10 mins and rinse it with boiling water. drain, mix through a very little oil, set on a teeny low heat, covered. .

While the rice is boiling, make the sauce, with chopped tomatoes, tomato puree, chopped peppers. Cook this for 10 mins. In the last 2 mins, add a little tumeric, a teaspoon of chilli powder , a teeny bit of the habanero. Then at the end, throw in the chicken for one min, stirring through.

Put out x number of plates, pour boiling water over them to heat them, toss out the water. Put the rice on, spread into a decent sized ring, put the chicken and sauce in the middle. Serve.

Barely more than a tap in to be fair.

Turned out rather tasty.

I chopped 2 tomatos, 1 green pepper, 1 yellow pepper, smashed it in a pan  with some olive oil and balsamic vinegar and gently cooked it off until soft adding in some tomato puree, garlic puree and chilli powder also added in a half pint of water.

Drained the tomatos and peppers keeping the stock and having slowly cooked off my chicken I diced the chicken added it to the stock cooked it slowly with one chopped red pepper, adding in chilli powder and tumeric as it cooked away slowly.  Few splashes of habanero pepper to spice it up a little.

Just before I took it off the heat I added in some yogurt and chopped grapes and served it with boiled rice.

Very nice indeed.

I mean, what's the point of turkey? It's horrible.

yeah turkey never top of my shopping list it must be said, but if it's cooked well certainly isn't 'horrible'.  And Christmas dinner doesn't have to be turkey. I'd rather lose the sprouts tbh.

I'm going to my bro's for xmas dinner this year.  He always puts on an amazing spread and apparently hasn't decided what we're having yet.  Getting hungry just thinking about it.  Will be taking lots of pics though.

Pretty easy to dry them out and  serve a cardboard surprise after using the normal oven method. You're trying to cook a giant bird right through, with great big breasts, they're just gonna dry right out.
Tried a method last year of cooking the turkey in the oven first, with a lot of boiling water round it in a roasting tray, pretty much sealed in with copious baking foil. This foil is removed after a couple of hours and the last leg is for crispening up a basted bird with no foil. Worked a treat. And none of my family died, which was a bonus.

But yeah, better birds...goose, pheasant.
