Title: Turn spot...
Post by: Pinchop73 on December 08, 2011, 08:29:03 PM
Hi, I read this hand on another forum played by another player which I found quite interesting, it provoked quite a response...

'Live £300 FO - FOX ME 15 left 12 paid - No interest in min cashing

Hero 110k and villain 150k

8 handed
Blinds 2000/4000/300
Hero utg with  Aspades Ts
Raise to 8800
Button calls
HU flop  Ad  Ks  7s

Pot 26k

We lead 13k
Villain flats

Turn  Jc

We check with the intention of check shoving, however villain shoves for 130k into a pot of 52k - wwyd with TP/Nut flush and Nut gutshot straight drawer?

NB - bet half pot on the flop as Villain was on previous table and had 3 bet 2 weakish OOP leads so was hoping to get it in here.

Cheers'

He also posted this snippet on Villain after somebody request more info....

'Only info I have on player is that he called a raise from the CO on the button with KK and then called the sb shove.

He also called in position 2streets with a house then raised all in on the river and got paid

Plus the 2 3bets of the flop leads that got folds.

Was only with him for about 3 orbits before he got moved tables'

What you saying?

No interest in min cashing

call?

tbh i'd expect him to have a combo most of the time and we probably have best hand best draw

Play it any differently up to this point?

fold.

?

we're given the assumption he wants to win/top 3 with zero interest in limping into a min cash, he has SD value and lots of nizzle rivers, having shown weakness to induce on turn - how can we do anything other than call?

Play it any differently up to this point?

I would likely cbet flop for a little less and play turn and pre the same way

we're getting a horrendous price and against his value range we are not good  and all his semi bluffs we have blockers for

what value range? he's shoving 2.5x pot on turn into an opponent showing either weakness or extreme strength.  I don't see how we can ever give villian sets or AK.  If he shows up any stronger than KJ I'd be shocked.  Pair+draw or flush draws that picked up a straight out on turn seem way more likely.

And this is completely ignoring the fact that hero is only interested in the top pay spots.

My rule of thumb is that if you start the hand with <30bb, top pair = the nuts. I think I'd be applying that rule here. I

My personal opinion, vs this specific villain, I want to check jam the flop. If he checks behind, I'm b/c most turns.

I think we play our equity much better with this line?

Any opinions?

check/shoving the turn is horrible

Yeh check shoving seems really bad.

Now it's a fking easy fold

yh +1

now we only beat Qs Js and whereas this is a pretty likely holding for him there is no way we have the equity vs someone with a brain who seems quite solid

*edit - we beat 8s 9s also but w/e, so thin

villian has hero comfortably covered on the bubble.

His range is AUs wider than people are giving him credit for imo

check/call is awesome because it keeps all his floats and low equity hands in.  I fistpump check/call the shove expecting to make bank.

Against a smaller turn bet you can check/call two streets or check/shove turn depending on opponent and exact sizing.  A 35k turn bet par example puts 122k in the pot and 54k effective behind.  Against a lot of live players who habitually check back the river we might be better off just jamming here and hoping they spazz call.  If you think he can double barrel and his manner and/or sizing seems to be setting up a river shove then look uncomfortable and dwell call the turn then snap call the river shove and cackle as you rake in the pot.

Fold pre

Fold now, this board smacks your UTG opening range pretty hard and from notes villain seems competent for the most part so probably knows this. You also block majority of combo draws he can have given his peeling range vs UTG open
