Title: Re: Settle a Kindle argument for me please Post by: StuartHopkin on December 10, 2011, 02:32:46 PM Defo heavier
Its to do with the energy associated with entropy Title: Re: Settle a Kindle argument for me please Post by: leethefish on December 10, 2011, 02:38:56 PM Defo heavier ;topman; Its to do with the energy associated with entropy Title: Re: Settle a Kindle argument for me please Post by: spence on December 10, 2011, 02:43:04 PM Defo heavier Its to do with the energy associated with entropy this isnt my field, but i believe this is a design choice and you could theoretically design this to work in reverse with the kindle getting lighter as it fills up? I just like disagreeing with Hopkin. Title: Re: Settle a Kindle argument for me please Post by: ManuelsMum on December 10, 2011, 02:43:47 PM Defo heavier Its to do with the energy associated with entropy That's pretty heavy Title: Re: Settle a Kindle argument for me please Post by: Paullie_D on December 10, 2011, 02:49:29 PM Defo heavier Its to do with the energy associated with entropy Indeed...http://www.telegraph.co.uk/science/science-news/8858355/E-readers-get-heavier-with-each-book.html Title: Re: Settle a Kindle argument for me please Post by: kinboshi on December 11, 2011, 02:26:22 AM Probably heavier with dirt and dust over time, but if you drop it and scratch it, some of the plastic will come off the case, reducing the weight. Wonder if the battery running low makes a difference, working off the same logic of Einstein's famous equation? In fact, the capacity of the battery lessens over time, with the potential energy given off as heat and light - so it also becomes lighter. So that probably makes a bigger difference than the addition of extra books in the memory.
What was the question? Title: Re: Settle a Kindle argument for me please Post by: EvilPie on December 11, 2011, 12:30:38 PM Do they give off any kind of smell?
If they do it's getting lighter every day. I know they get lighter if you take it to Scotland (while it's much colder here anyway). Smell of cheap plastic ;) Does the battery cycling add or lose weight though? Title: Re: Settle a Kindle argument for me please Post by: outragous76 on December 11, 2011, 06:54:15 PM Can confirm it would become weightless if you took it to liverpool
Title: Re: Settle a Kindle argument for me please Post by: kinboshi on December 11, 2011, 07:25:33 PM Can confirm it would become weightless if you took it to liverpool It would become a useless bit of plastic in St Helens. Wonder if they absorb particles in the air that smell, as that would make them heavier. Title: Re: Settle a Kindle argument for me please Post by: ManuelsMum on December 12, 2011, 01:45:44 AM If you used it to light the fire, would it be kindling? You'd have to load 'Fahrenheit 451' on it first. By firewire. |
