Post by: ManuelsMum on December 16, 2011, 11:26:30 AM
Gone to meet his Maker. Very sad :(

Hopefully his work will get even more attention now, God willing.

Posted about him on Tom's thread, but definitely deserving of a thread of its own.

If you're looking to get someone a good book for xmas, this is excellent (http://www.amazon.co.uk/God-Not-Great-Religion-Everything/dp/1843545748/ref=as_li_wdgt_js_ex?&linkCode=wsw&tag=blondepoker-21).

"Gone to meet his maker" meant ironically?

One of the greatest minds of our generation and a great loss to the human race.

RIP

Ironically, yes, although I suppose we all go to meet our 'maker' in one way or another.
No foxhole conversions here though.

[?] Enjoying life to the full (even if it means drinking a bottle of scotch+ a day 'cos it helps you write) >>>>>>long innings?

read a great comment on youtube.
If Hitchens is wrong and he's going to meet God, he must be shitting himself about what's coming.
Not Hitchens, GOD must be shitting himself.

lmao, quality :D

I'm sure many good religious folk will believe that god smote him in the end for his impiety. QED.

i loved when he talked about his illness concentrating the mind and how he wished he was 'fighting' for something more noble than his health.

very, very smart guy and a great loss.

Yeah I found him very noble and measured here. He even brings out the nice side in Paxman

I must admit, never heard of the guy until today, but having watched those two videos I am captivated by the bloke - like a cooler more likeable Richard Dawkins.

You'd probably like the book I linked to in this thread. He's written some other good stuff two, and I'm reading 'Arguably' at the moment.

I hated his stance on the Iraq war but loved his opposition to religion. I just respected him as an intelligent person with a great debating ability who stuck to his cause whatever it may be.
