Hi,

I work full time so don't play much poker but as of 5th Jan Im stuck on the bed/sofa for 2 weeks with my leg in the air after ankle op. I want to take the opportunity to use these two weeks to play a lot of online poker.

I will either play tourns of $30 + buy in and cash min blinds of $1 - $2 (because i struggle to be motivated to play lower levels) and i want to play around 3 tables at a time. ( i have 13 inch screen)  can anyone suggest bankroll for this?

Any other advice? sites to play on, playing times should i do bursts or long hauls, should i have loss or win stops per session etc? I have a mac should i purchase/install any tracking software? I reckon i will play 10 + hours per day for most of the 14 days.

Would suggest a bankroll of 5k$ for the cash, but if you run awful you might need to reload.

I would suggest playing when you're feeling good and playing good/in good games as guidlines rather than "i'm down 5 buyins I should stop" or "I've played for 2 hours I should stop". Knowing your mind is the key.

Good response above for the cash and if ure thinking tourns, would imagine your average buyin might be around 60 dollars, if u decide to enter 100fs and if you do a 10 hour run you may well play about 12 tourns a day. So $720 a day so if you are playing for two weeks and only want enough to cover yourself $7.5k should do it.

But for creating a safe roll that you want to build and maintain I am not ure man to ask.

Work out an mtt schedule and play the same one every day. Refreshed motivation each day to best the last, known expenditure if you brick it all

A couple things in your posts make me think that playing nl200 would be a massive mistake.

-if you havn't got a HUD up to this point. I would not introduce one at this point at nl200

-if this is boredom based and you will have a few hours i would just consider playing lower and using the time to read up on advice on hands/ also best uses of a HUD etc.

-if you find playing poker at less than nl200 online i would be concerned you dont enjoy poker as much as you think and its about an amount to gamble.

If you're only playing 3 tables then play on Sky. It's pretty soft and you'll help blonde.

If you're dead set on only playing 1/2 then what's the point asking about bankroll requirements? It doesn't matter what you've got if that's all you're prepared to play anyway.

As Alex has said you'll want a minimum of $5k.

I'd suggest a bankroll of closer to $5200 and using the $200 to buy a bigger screen may be wise as well.

As it says in Harrington on Cash Games, you only need a bankroll if you are a winning player. If you're a losing player, what you need is a budget.

Bankroll requirements depend on two things- you're win rate, and the varience of the game you are playing. There are plenty of people on here who can estimate how much variance there is in online Hold Em cash games, and there are plenty of people who know what kind of winrates are possible, but without knowing more about you, they can't really give you a bankroll number.

Playing just 3 tables go for a euro site. Definitely not pokerstars.

dont get this last post . why not stars ? biggest prize pools and most fish . why wouldn't you wanna play here !

Interesting point about not enjoying online poker as much as i think and that it about an amount to gamble, made me think about my motives! I love live poker, internet poker is a different game and I don't enjoy it anywhere near as much as live, so maybe that attitude isn't a good/suitable attitude if i want to be a winning online player.

Skypoker i like but anywhere from £1 + blinds I don't think its soft, seems to be the same players every time, all playing premium hands and not much action.

I have other screens that aren't portable, maybe i could hook one up by my bed.

I like the idea of a mtt schedule, i have only ever played stars and sky. If i do MTT's then i dont really like big fields of 400+

what euro sites would you recommend?

Had a smiliar situation a year or so ago when I was off work for 2 weeks due to illness, (played too high and lost) I think having a schedule is a very good idea and make sure you record your results. if you have not played a ton online/winning player I think playing $30 plus buys ins is way to high, their is a lot of lower buys ins on starts and if you prove yourself you can always break the other ankle then move up

Agree with this.  i would much rather mass multi table $2-$20 tourneys than play $30+ tourneys which is pretty much where the better players are.  If you can't beat the small tourneys on stars you can't win imo.

If you love live pokes it seems you probably enjoy the social aspect of the game more than the actual poker but also likes the poker a bit.  If saying over £1 is tough on sky, then your probably not good enough to be playing NL200 anywhere online.  FWIW, live cash is terrible (in casino's in general) and non comparible to online cash.  Live MTT's are also a lot weaker than online MTT's. 

Why is it you want to play poker so much when off work ?  If your 3 tabling it sounds like you've not played to much poker so stop worrying about the BI's and play a small BI MTT schedule and see how you enjoy that IMO.

Its because i am stuck with my leg up in the air for 2 weeks, i can either watch tv, xbox or play poker anything else will be beyond me! I think you're right regarding a small BI mtt schedule, what i might do is hook up another screen so i can play 8 + tables but play small BI's. I agree live cash is terrible in a lot of places, my nearest casino is nearly a two hour drive but is worth the trip because most the regs are terrible players.

What limits do you play live? I have read that online you play@10% of live level for same skill.

When and if I play its 1-2 live, but i only play a few times a year.

Nowhere decent that i know of to play in Cornwall  :'(

I'm guessing you know about http://www.cornwallpokertour.com/ which play regulary at the Edgecliffe Club Newquay.

There use to be some games in Falmouth but not sure if they still happen as it's been  a few years since I was there, and there also use to be tournaments on Sundays at the Godolphin Club in Helston

I have heard of it but never been as it seems that its just for fun as the buy in is £5. Have you been? Do you know of anywhere that plays cash games?
