Title: Fish pots river, call or fold?
Post by: cambridgealex on January 02, 2012, 04:50:09 PM
Villain is a fish, playing 53/0/0 after 60 hands. We're playing 32/24/14.5 after 120 hands but can assume that is largely irrelevant.

Preflop: Hero is SB with   Qd Tc
4 folds, Hero raises to $8.00, telb_x calls $8.00

Flop: ($19.00)  Ks 9c 4c    (2 players)
Hero bets $10.00, telb_x calls $10.00

Turn: ($39.00)    Ts   (2 players)
Hero bets $21.00, telb_x calls $21.00

River: ($81.00)   9h     (2 players)
Hero checks, telb_x bets $78.00, Hero?

Betting the turn seemed better than checking. Can still get value from lots of 9x + gutshots, TJ, and club flush draws, 9 and 4x spades sort of hands. And if he's really fishy maybe even worse pairs.

River sucks cos he never has a K now when he pots it, looks like 9x or a missed draw.

He is so passive pre i can't see him bluffing like this post. Hard to know exactly without postflop tendencies/stats. I love to call in these spots but its prob a fold

53/0/0 lol where do you find this value!.

Ergh. If he is that passive you shouldn't rule out 4s and the one combo of TT and Kings too. Its a weird spot. Like you say he never has a king. I call 53/0 has all sorts of draws inhis range.

i'd c/f flop against a player who very rarely bets, you're going to have the best hand at showdown a fair bit and there's too many hands he isn't folding on this flop.  c/f river obv absolutely no read to hero off other than a fd missed

Id fold 53/0 = a man who loves calling and hates betting. if he's decided that he's going to bluff here then high five him through the computer screen, give him the money and 100% still fold next time lol

With no reads on his postflop tendances would you 100% presume they follow the same trend/pattern as his preflop ones?

Probably a reasonably smart thing to do I imagine.

yeah i would. tbh a lot of times this isn't the case and these uber nits can seriously spazz post-flop. However I just don't want to be the guy that pays the 53/0/0 off with second pair until I have some solid solid evidence lol

in my experience when these un orthodox players bet this big on the river in polarising spot they usually want a call.bet smaller with like 5 secs thinking time and sometimes i'll call, fast or tanking then big bets and they ususally roll over something nutty
