Title: UKIPT Galway
Post by: FUN4FRASER on January 02, 2012, 06:24:23 PM
I know this is relatively early..but Im looking to book flights and hotel room for the Galway UKIPT in February .It would appear no flights go direct from The North of England and the nearest other two airports that have plenty of flights are either Knock (1 hour taxi) or Shannon (2 hour taxi)

Any of you guys got any advice on flights /hotels or fancy travelling in a group etc then please let me know

Thanks in Advance

Last two seasons I have flown in direct to Galway from Manchester with Aer Arran. Propellor planes but cheap n cheerful and last time was when we had all that snow. You have to stay in the raddison as it is the venue and decent quality

I flew Air Arran from Luton Fraser - was fine. had to come back via Shannon due to snow and from memory can was about 100 euro, fine if 2/3 of you - didn't take 2hrs but they said that, about 1.5hrs

Galway airport closed in October.

2 options I think:

1. Fly to Shannon and take cab.
2. Fly to Dublin, rent car and drive down their M6 straight to Galway. Approx. 2hrs drive.

How far is Shannon to Galway?

Up for option 2 if we can get enough of us to Dublin at the same time? Or may not bother

Im told Shannon to Galway is 90 mins...The place to check out is an Airport called "Knock" 45 minutes North of Galway as there seems to be plenty of flights .

Dublin to Galway is 130 miles so I think a last resort but doable if needs must .

Lets get our heads together  and get something arranged

Sounds good ....thank you very much

Any opinion on Knock airport ? as there seem to be a lot more flights to there from The North of England

Cheers

Its further away and non-motorway. If driving would recommend Shannon.

Oh, you can fly from Manchester to Shannon with Aer Lingus.

Did a dummy booking - flying on 14th Feb returning on 21st Feb. £50 return + £12 handling fee without a checked bag - an extra €15 for a bag I believe. Of course, you could always get it all in a hand luggage suitcase...

Agree with Adam, Knock is 55 miles North but roads are not as good as the Shannon route but if flights are better Knock is a viable alternative

I am flying Manchester - Shannon tonight - drive to Galway

Okay thanks for that too

Looks like Shannon Airport it is then (with Knock as back up)

Ill have a look at flights as there are two start dates/times Thursday the 16th Feb @ Midday or Friday the 17th @ Midday .

If there are a few of us travelling then we need to decide which start date suits...maybe post best option on here ?

found & booked a cheap return solution with ryan air

fly out  on Friday the 17th of feb from East midlands airport at 11 am (flight  number FR 1742) arrive in Knock at 12 .15pm

Jump in taxi straight to Galway (45 mins ) Should arrive at  UKIPT event @ 13.15  for day 1B which started at midday

return Sunday from Knock airport @ 13.15  (flight number fr1743)   Price for return ticket including booking fees £43.58

Ive also booked another one way ticket for the Monday (20th) (should I need to stay an extra day) departs knock  @14.45  flight number FR 1743   price   thirteen euros

there is no flight to east midlands on the Tuesday but if Im lucky enough to of lasted that long thats the last of my worries

Seems a cheap option so feel free to "hop on "

PS. When booking with ryan air.... Don't forget to tick no luggage as you get a 10kg hand luggae allowance as standard ...also select no insurance or it will default to you buying their insurance

Full counts are available on the blog, Stato is 45/59 coming back tomorrow. Chip leaders have changed a little since Tighty's post top five are:

Alan Gilmore 467000
Aleksandras Rusinovas 459000
Kevin Monroe 443500
Joris Ruijs    427500
Hector Garcia Cabanillas 386000

The guy who's chip leader suffered an horrific runner, runner, runner outdraw (he was a 99.59% favourite after the flop) on Day 1B, then today he cracked kings with queens and found aces against kings. Easy game.
