Title: Mobiles at the table.
Post by: mrmacacan on January 13, 2012, 09:55:29 AM
What do we all think about mobiles at the table ?.

I hate them, at my games mobile phones are banned, slow the game down far to much.
Most casino's you can not use your mobile for a phone call, whats all that about, allow or ban them, simps.

So tilting when a dealer has to tell someone texting that it's their turn to act and they reply "I know"

I pads tilt me beyond belief (in cash games more so). You might aswell hold up a sign saying I am here all night lads and will play 2 hands an hour. I have never seen anyone play LAG with an Ipad.

No actually! Its been about a year since I moved back to London from Leicester. Is it really common at DTD? Its quite common down here.  The worst was the guy 8 tabling on teamviewer in run up to xmas to try and get supernova.

Sounds harsh don't it.

My games are probably the strictest in the UK, every rule is enforced be it petty or not, all players attending know that and there are no
problems or arguments.
Casino's should take a similar stance instead of different interpretations of rules.

Live poker is tilting enough as it is. If you ban phones then it can become plain dull. Do you have a similar stance on listening to music?

Some of the rules are pretty com, some a bit harsh imo. The worst i have ever played was at Mandalay. Literally anything you did or said was penalised and they were proper cocks about it.

Some that caught my eye:

Telling anyone to turn a hand face up at the showdown - i know its bad etiquette but sometimes its a must especially when you are heads up. people who choose to exercise the right shouldn't be penalised imo .

Like the Cordiality ones but i know a few ppl who would struggle with some of these:

Be modest when you win.
Refrain from criticizing another player's play.
Limit unnecessary chatter to avoid disturbing active players.

Table Presence

Chips on the table are not to be transferred from one player to another. - Wording could imply it is impossible to lose a pot.

If you step away from the table, please advise the dealer of your intentions. - " Dealer, off for a piss mate"

I don't mind music, phones etc at the table.

All I ask is that they please pay attention to the action in return.

Pulling out your phone, turning on the camera, recording a particularly juicy piece of action (or a fight?)

No problem with people texting when the action is not on them, find it disrespectful when someone is texting away when every is waiting for them to even look at their cards and they say the 'I know.'  Can't really understand anyone disagreeing with this.

On a personal note if I have to take a call I always move away from the table (if I'm yet to act I don't take the call).  I also think anyone who does take a call at the table should either get a penalty or a kick in the nads.  They can choose which, I'm not that harsh.
