Title: The Aussie Millions thread Post by: TightEnd on January 13, 2012, 07:03:45 PM Plenty of blondes and Brits over there, and first reports are coming through. Good luck to Jack Ellwood on Day 2
Crown Poker's 2012 Aussie Millions Championship continued on Friday with Day 1b of Event 1: $1,100 Opening Event. The first flight drew 274 players and saw 34 advance to Day 2. On Day 1b 251 players took their seats, bringing the total to 525 players, with one more starting flight to go. Of the 251 players who registered on Day 1b, only 32 survived, and Sam Youssef sits atop the leaderboard with 240,100 in chips. Youssef made some moves in the last few levels of the day — the first on board showing {5-Diamonds}{k-Spades}{2-Clubs}{q-Spades}. By the time all the action on the turn was over, Youssef and his opponent had all the chips in the middle. Showdown Youssef: {j-Hearts}{10-Hearts} Opponent: {k-Diamonds}{k-Clubs} When Youssef noticed that his opponent hit a set on the flop, he joked that he was drawing dead. That certainly wasn't the case by the time the river was dealt — the {a-Clubs} giving Youssef the straight. Another player who was doing quite well was James Dempsey. He was involved in a big pot against Sorel Mizzi that began when Dempsey raised to 1,600 from the hijack only to have an unknown player three-bet to 3,750 from the cutoff. Mizzi, who was next to act on the button, then made it 7,700 to go. Dempsey responded by moving all-in for 40,875, the cutoff folded, and Mizzi called. Showdown Dempsey: {A-Hearts}{7-Hearts} Mizzi: {A-Spades}{K-Diamonds} Mizzi was in great shape to eliminate a tough competitor, but the {7-Spades}{3-Clubs}{J-Diamonds} flop paired Dempsey to give him the lead. Neither the {Q-Hearts} turn nor {6-Diamonds} river helped Mizzi, and he was reduced to just 7,500. Dempsey took over the chip lead with approximately 100,000. A few hands later, Mizzi was eliminated from the tournament. Unfortunately for Dempsey, he was unable to hold onto his big stack as he ran into the red-hot Youssef. In that hand, there was plenty of action between Youssef and Dempsey, with the former holding {k-}{10-} and the latter {a-Hearts}{q-Hearts}. The flop brought a {k-} along with two hearts and this is when all the chips went in. Dempsey needed a heart but it never came and Youssef's kings were enough to eliminate Dempsey. The unique “repechage” format of the event means that both Dempsey and Mizzi will likely be back on Day 1c. There were plenty of other players like Mizzi who were eliminated in Flight 1 and opted to take advantage of the repechage format and reentered on Day 1b. They included Maria Ho, Simon Watt, Daniel Laidlaw, Benn Skendar, and Vesko Zmukic. Unfortunately, none of them survived the day, though we expect most will return on Day 1c for one last try. The second starting flight of the Opening Event may have attracted the previous day’s dead, but a slew of new players attended, as well, including 2010 World Series of Poker third-place finisher, Joseph Cheong; 2011 Aussie Millions Champ, David Gorr; local legend and 2011 Australian Poker Hall of Fame inductee, Leo Boxell; U.K. pro, Richard Ashby; world traveler, McLean Karr, and online stars Daniel “djk123” Kelly, Toby “810ofclubs” Lewis, and Jim “Mr_BigQueso” Collopy. Unfortunately, all of these players hit the rail by night’s end. Joining Youssef on Day 2, along with the 34 survivors from Day 1a, are Bernard Beh, Mel Judah, Billy Jordanou, Brendon Rubie, and last year's winner of this very event, Martin Drewe, just to name a few. Top 5 Chip Counts Player Chips Sam Youssef 240,100 Brendon Rubie 148,000 Bernard Beh 134,000 Michael Comer 132,600 Jack Ellwood 124,000 The last Day 1 starting flight is set to begin at 1230 AEST Saturday (1730 PST Friday) http://www.pokernews.com/news/2012/01/2012-aussie-millions-event-1-day-1b-youssef-leads-11799.htm Title: Re: The Aussie Millions thread Post by: TightEnd on January 16, 2012, 12:01:31 PM Brit Rob Angood 3rd in Event 1
2012 Aussie Millions $1,000 No-Limit Hold'em Opening Event Brendon Rubie, Winner of the 2012 Aussie Millions Opening Event ($200,000 AUD) It all started last Thursday and after three Day 1 flight’s, a gruelling Day 2 and an exciting final table, Brendon Rubie has been crowned the champion of the 2012 Aussie Millions Opening Event. This time yesterday, Rubie and dozens of players were set to be playing down to the winner. As the tournament went late into the evening, it was decided that the final table would be coming back today. Within the first hour, the two short stacks at the table had been eliminated, with Sean Robey going home in 10th place before Tamara Volkoff joined him on the rail in 9th place. Naz Sibaei was the next player to be eliminated, with his demise occurring a couple of hands after he lost a massive pot to the eventual champion. After Sibaei was sent home in 8th place, Sherif Derias was eliminated in 7th place. Next to go was local Manny Stavropoulos in 6th place, with his elimination coming just a few hands before Tam Troung joined the rail in 5th place. John Thomson was the short stack for much of the afternoon and put in a great effort to make it to 4th place. From there, Rubie began his rise to the top when he picked up a huge pot against Rob Angood who ran his {a-Spades}{9-Diamonds} into the {a-Clubs}{a-Hearts} of Rubie. Angood never recovered from there and Rubie would end up dealing the fatal blow that sent Angood home in 3rd place. The heads-up battle started with Rubie holding a 2-1 chip lead over Wilson and Rubie would hold on to that lead for much of heads-up. The game changing hand of their battle began when Rubie opened the pot for 125,000 and Wilson promptly three-bet to 250,000. When Rubie made the call, a {8-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} flop was dealt. Wilson led for 350,000, Rubie called, and the {q-Spades} hit the turn. Wilson opted to check this time and then called Rubie’s bet of 325,000. The {a-Clubs} on the river saw Wilson again check and this time Rubie simply slid out a huge stack of chips. When Wilson made the call, Rubie confidently turned over his {q-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} and Wilson proceeded to look disappointed. Rubie knew he had taken down the hand and even went to the rail to celebrate the victory. Unfortunately for Rubie, Wilson was actually left with a few big blinds and Rubie apologized as he sat back down to continue the tournament. With only a few hundred thousand in chips, Wilson didn’t have too many options and proceeded to move all in. A couple of double-ups for Wilson and he had a pulse again as Rubie tried to recompose himself. The inevitable last hand of the evening occurred when Wilson got his stack all in on a {10-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{q-Spades} flop. Rubie’s {q-Clubs}{j-Diamonds} was enough to be well ahead of the {4-Clubs}{3-Clubs} of Wilson and when the turn and river bricked out, it was all over for Wilson as he was sent home in 2nd place for a hefty $125,000 score. Not only did Rubie receive $200,000 for his victory, but can now add an Aussie Millions gold ring to his resume and will go down in history as the champion of the 2012 Aussie Millions Opening Event. http://www.pokernews.com/live-reporting/2012-aussie-millions/1-000-no-limit-hold-em-opening-event/ Title: Go middy Post by: outragous76 on January 20, 2012, 09:53:00 AM 1/5

Title: Re: The Aussie Millions thread Post by: TightEnd on January 20, 2012, 02:33:35 PM British pro Tom Middleton has taken down the $1,000 No Limit Hold'em Six-Max event at the Aussie Millions, bagging himself a bankroll-boosting $84,200 in the process, the second largest cash of his live career so far.
The Leeds lad is better known in online circles as "hitthehole" where he has more than $2,900,000 in tournament cashes but he is no fish in the live arena either, having cashes of almost $510,000 most of which is made up of the $305,015 that he picked up for finishing third in a $2,500 event at this year's World Series of Poker. Middleton went into the second and final day armed with a stack of 260,500 chips, enough to place him seventh out of the 18 who had made it safely through from Day 1. Within the first 30 minutes of play the tournament was reduced to the final two tables after six players were eliminated, one of which at the hands of young Middleton. Tomi Aalto got his chips into the middle with {K-Spades}{J-Spades} only to find himself dominated by the {A-Hearts}{K-Hearts} of our hero an d when the board ran out {3-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{K-Hearts}{7-Spades} Aalto was busted, Middleton's stack grew to 505,000 and the players redrew for the last two tables. Over the next 90-minutes the field was being reduced in size one player at a time and when Stefan Jedlicka was busted out in eighth place the remaining seven players all converged on what was called the final table despite the fact the tournament was meant to be six-max. The seat draw and stacks were as follows: Position Name Chips 1 Peter Skouteris 503,000 2 Joel Dodds 392,000 3 Craig Cockburn 979,000 4 Tom Middleton 857,000 5 Ben Lingenfelder 257,000 6 Kosta Mamaliadis 409,000 7 Xin Zhao 576,000 Within an hour the perfectionists amongst us were happy that the six-handed tournament was now being played six-handed when Xin Zhao was sent to the rail in seventh place. Ten minutes after Zhao's demise the Middleton-show took place as one-by-one he eliminated each of his five opponents. First to feel the Middleton wraith was Ben Lingenfelder who found his {Q-Spades}{9-Spades} was no match for the {A-Spades}{4-Spades} of Middleton when the board ran out {Q-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{A-Clubs}{X-}. The it was the turn of of Kosta Mamaliadis to clash with the young Brit and come away with no chips! On a flop reading {2-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} Middleton made a continuation bet of 50,000 and then called when his opponent raised to 175,000. The {5-Clubs} on the turn saw Middleton check, Mamaliadis move all in for 490,000 and after two minutes Middle made a great call with {A-Spades}{7-Diamonds}, which was ahead of the {6-Diamonds}{6-Spades} of Mamaliadis. The {3-Spades} on the river caused no drama and Middleton was up to 1,500,000 chips and really running the show. Shortly after and "Middy" saw his stack increase past the 2,000,000 barrier when he snapped Craig Cockburn's 150,000 three-bet shove with {Q-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds} which held against Cockburn's {A-Spades}{8-Clubs} then literally the very next hand Peter Kouteris moved all in with what turned out to the {A-Hearts}{5-Diamonds} but it could not suck out on the red eights of Middleton, setting up a one-on-one battle with Joel Dodds for the title. Even without a three-to-one chip advantage you had the feeling Middleton was going to walk away with the title and that is exactly what happened after only a few hands. Middleton opened the betting from the button and Dodds made the call. The dealer put out the {5-Hearts}{10-Spades}{J-Spades} flop. Dodds initially checked, Middleton fired a bet of 50,000 only to see Dodds check-raise to 128,000. Middleton wasted no time in making it 370,000 to go and when Dodds shoved Middleton called. Dodds {Q-Hearts}{9-Clubs} Middleton {J-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} Middleton had flopped two pair against the open-ended straight draw of Dodds. The turn was the {10-Clubs} followed by the {3-Spades} on the river and Middleton had become the first British champion of this year's Aussie Millions! Aussie Millions $1,000 Six-Max Final Table Results Position Name Prize 1 Tom Middleton $84,200 2 Joel Dodds $58,135 3 Peter Skouteris $40,450 4 Craig Cockburn $30,800 5 Kosta Mamaliadis $23,100 6 Ben Lingenfelder $15,400 Read more: http://uk.pokernews.com/news/2012/01/tom-middleton-wins-1000-six-max-at-the-aussie-millions-7885.htm (http://img.uk.pokernews.com/w/articles/4f19/7a78336ef.png) Title: Re: The Aussie Millions thread Post by: action man on January 20, 2012, 02:37:50 PM flagggggggggs

The eight-time WSOP bracelet winner closed the day with a stack of 184,000, good enough for fourth place on the leader board at the close of play. At one stage Ivey dropped down to 85,000 chips but a timely double up courtesy of Aussie cricket legend Shane Warne put him right back into contention.
A total of 317 players bought into the third opening flight with fewer than 150 of them surviving for day two. Leading the way was Robert Lam with 198,400. Also in the top ten at bagging up time were David Sonelin on 186,200 and David Steicke on 140,000. Plenty of big names came and went on the final first day with Erik Seidel, Joe Hachem, Daniel Negreanu, Nam Le and Daniel Alaei all hitting the rail. The overall numbers won't be confirmed until tomorrow as registration is open until 12.30pm local time but is expected to be slightly lower than last year's figure of 712. 657 have entered so far with 309 making it back for day 2. Title: Re: The Aussie Millions thread Post by: TightEnd on January 25, 2012, 10:41:16 AM Dempsey Trys to Find the Fold Button
Table 25 has been a happy hunting ground for Jason Koon. The same cannot be said for James Dempsey. The two just clashed in a pot where a third player was all-in, and it didn't end well for the Brit. We reached the action after the flop had fallen as {6-Hearts}{a-Hearts}{6-Clubs} and the small blind had moved all-in for 23,100. Dempsey was in early position and raised up to 49,300. Koon called from the button and the action passed to the {q-Diamonds} turn. Dempsey slowed to a check and called when the American bet 30,000. The river brought another queen in the {q-Clubs} and Dempsey checked. Koon bet 55,000 and this bet really got under Dempsey's skin. He went into the tank for a few minutes and tried to reason (sometime mumbling thoughts) what was going on. His instincts seemed to tell him to fold but he threw in the calling chips. Koon opened {a-Spades}{q-Hearts}, beating Dempsey's {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs}. "How did you get there?" asked Dempsey. "I fold if it doesn't come a queen." Well, it's been quite a hard fall for James Dempsey here in the after-dinner session. A few hands after his crippling at the hands of Jason Koon, we watched James Dempsey drop the rest of his stack and fall by the wayside. There was a aise to 5,000 and a call in front of Dempsey when he squeezed to 31,000 on the button. The gent in the small blind asked how much he was playing, then announced an all in reraise. That folded the other two out of the way, but Dempsey put his remaining ~22,000 into the pot to put himself at risk. "I probably have three outs," he correctly surmised. Showdown Dempsey: {A-Hearts} {9-Hearts} Opponent: {9-Diamonds} {9-Clubs} The board was dry and blank for Flushy, coming {3-Diamonds} {2-Clubs} {6-Hearts} {Q-Spades} {8-Clubs}, and with that, Dempsey has been reduced to the felt here in the waning stages of Day 2. Level 17: 4,000-8,000, 1,000 ante Day 3 of the Aussie Millions Main Event came and went far more quickly than most everyone anticipated. From the starting field of 659 runners, the final 75 returned to the Crown Casino today for a scheduled five levels of action. Instead, play was cut short after just three levels as the field was dashed all the way down to just 26 players. When the bags game out, Matthew Turk had worked his stack up to the top of the leader board with nearly double the chips of his nearest challenger. But more on him in a bit. With 75 players returning and only room for 72 of them on the payout sheet, three unlucky souls were sent off empty handed this afternoon. As anticipated, the bubble arrived very early in the day, but it took nearly two hours to find the next knockout and lock up a payday for the remaining 72. Frank Paul was all the way down to just 11,000 chips — barely 2bb — when he pushed the last of it in with {A-Diamonds} {J-Clubs}. Kenna James didn't have much of a decision in the big blind, and his {8-Hearts} {5-Diamonds} was drawing live for the knockout. Sure enough, the board ran out {Q-Clubs} {9-Diamonds} {6-Diamonds} {5-Spades} {Q-Hearts}, and Paul was sent away with only a wooden spoon to show for his AU$10,000 investment. Once the soft-stepping on the bubble was out of the way, the doors were thrown open and the march to the payout desk began in full force. Tom Grigg was one of the first to bow out with a small cash, and he was quickly followed out the door by the likes of Daniel Botta, James, Billy "The Croc" Argyros, Alexander Roumeliotis, Michael Tureniec, Dominykas Karmazinas, and Michael Pedley. Towards the end of the evening, Australia's newest bracelet winner, Andrew Hinrichsen was done in as well after running his pocket queens into Matthew Turk's two kings to mark an unfortunate end to his day. It was a game of leapfrog at the top of the chip counts today, and a handful of players traded the top spot around for a few hours. Most notable among them was Phil Ivey who plugged along steadily to bag up 1.107 million at night's end. That would be in contention for the overall lead if not for a monster pot that unfolded on the final hand of the night. We'll let you read about it below, but the long and short of it is that Matthew Turk won a monster flip to pile 2.675 million chips into his thin plastic bag. The remaining field is a pretty talented one with a couple bracelet winners and a former champion of this event still in the mix. Lee Nelson won this thing in 2006, and he'll be returning tomorrow with an above average stack of 878,000. Daniel Idema managed a shade more with 1.033 million to end the night, and the eight-time bracelet winner, Ivey is just out of the overnight top five with 1.107 million. Other notables still in the mix include Yann Dion, Oliver Speidel, Danny Chevalier, Grant Levy, and David Steicke. 1 Matt Turk 2,675,000 2 Tim O'Shea 1,376,000 3 Patrick Healy 1,353,000 4 Bjorn Li 1,222,000 5 Yann Dion 1,156,000 6 Phil Ivey 1,107,000 7 Daniel Idema 1,033,000 8 Minh Nguyen 992,000 9 Borge Dypvik 882,000 10 Lee Nelson 878,000 Rob Angood and Ben Jenkins were the UK cashers http://www.pokernews.com/live-reporting/2012-aussie-millions/aussie-millions-main-event/#post-200227 Title: Re: The Aussie Millions thread Post by: NoflopsHomer on January 26, 2012, 08:40:25 PM Almost read that as Mad Turk at the top of the leaderboard.
