Title: EPT Deauville thread
Post by: TightEnd on January 30, 2012, 05:54:29 PM
The EPT's annual return to the elegant seaside resort of Deauville in Normandy is now well-established and will be taking place in Season 8 from January 31 - February 6, 2012. Last season, the event broke its own record, attracting 891 players to the Casino de Deauville and generating a €4,276,800 prize pool.

This season, the event will again be taking place in the spacious new tournament area located in an annexe of Casino Barriere at The Deauville International Centre - located right on Deauville's beautiful beach and close to the town's premier hotels, shops, bars and restaurants.

Frenchman Lucien Cohen won the Season 7 event on home soil, taking the title for a first prize of €880,000 after besting the record-breaking field. The result was a disappointment for Swedish PokerStars qualifier Martin Jacobson however who was beaten heads-up, giving him his second runner-up finish of the season. Jacobson went on to win the EPT7 Online Qualifier of the Year title, amassing total earnings in Season 7 of more than €1.1 million.

As reported by liv Boeree on social media this morning

In level 1 of Day 1b today a player is all in with A-K and accidentally exposes his hand

A second player ( with 9-9 as it happens ) can call or fold, and effectively have a €5,000 + €300 flip early doors

Do we go for this?

(results follow!?)

Of course, if we are Liv Boeree we aren't going to have a big edge in this tournament.  Assuming the AK isn't suited, won't this be 57/43 and not a flip?

Boeree n MacPhee were seated next to each other first table. Interesting for table dynamic?

no, shes a nit

Assuming the 99 had already put some chips in the pot, meaning there was dead money + AK's chips to win, it's a no brain call surely?

Here is what she said on twitter

Great table. So far witnessed a spectacle where 99 got it in preflop 1st level vs an EXPOSED AK suited, who snapped. €5k flip? No big deal.

Sounds like the AK snap called the 99 shove despite exposing his hand previously.

Assuming the AK off 3 bet and exposed, surely calling is best with 99?  AK9 flop would be fun.  I think you are actually 55/56% depending on suits with 99.  EIther way I don't think 99 made an error here.

As an aside we had a hand at GUKPT Manchester.  UTG raised to 400 at 50/100.  BB had just sat down and shipped 20K in.  UTG said he couldn't fold QQ and called.  Other fella had AK off.

It went player A opens player B calls, C then decides to 3bet and expose AK. A flats and now B decided to 4bet which is obviously stupid. C then piles it in and now B tanks which is even funnier almost as if he didn't expect AK to get it in.

The PokerStars.fr European Poker Tour Deauville Main Event played down from 178 players to the final 54 on Friday night.

EPT London finalist Martins Adeniya came into play as the clear chip leader and a steady day kept him near the top of the counts throughout. A massive 1.5 million chip pot nearing the end of the night however, handed France’s Samphane Phomveha the overnight lead.

The 128-player money bubble was reached midway through the day’s third level and the only thing building faster than the line-up at the cash out cage following the bubble appeared to be Ondrej Vinklarek’s stack. The Czech national, who crushed the side events at EPT Prague in October, quickly became the first player over the one-million chip mark using an aggressive style of play and a little run-good. In the closing moments, he shoved king-five off-suit preflop into Phomveha’s pocket kings to hand him 1.471 million chips and the overnight chip lead.

Vinklarek wasn’t the only one with an up and down day. Frenchman Ludovic Lacay seemed to take the same line. At one point, he shot up to 950,000 and the top of the leaderboard by picking up aces against two shorter stacks with jacks and tens. But after Adeniya was moved to his table and took a chunk out of his stack, pushing him off a 200,000 pot on a four-flush board, Lacay seemed to spend the rest of the day hovering around the half million mark. That is until the late stages when Christopher Brammer rivered an ace against his pocket jacks to send him home.

Notables joining Lacay in cashing, but busting throughout the day included 2010 EPT Vilamoura winner Toby Lewis, WPT and WSOP title holder James Dempsey, French rap mogul Bruno "Kool Shen" Lopes, and Lucille Cailly.

Making the money certainly meant something to that group, and to the handful of PokerStars qualifiers still in when the bubble burst, but it also marked another big occasion for the final Team PokerStars Pro left standing. Luca Pagano guaranteed a record 20th EPT cash by making the money here, but picked up aces to double up soon after the bubble burst to stay alive and ended with a 344,000 stack heading into Saturday’s Day 4.

Big stacks also still in contention for the €875,000 first-place prize include Brammer, France’s Olivier Rogez, and 2011 EPT San Remo sixth-place finisher Yorane Kerignard.

Top 10 Stacks Heading into Day 4
Place   Player   Chip Count
1   Samphane Phomveha   1,471,000
2   Olivier Rogez   1,098,500
3   Christopher Brammer   1,090,000
4   Yorane Kerignard   979,000
5   Martins Adeniya   893,000
6   Koen De Visscher   880,000
7   Gereon Sowa   787,000
8   Kevin Vandersmissen   759,000
9   Julien Ehrhardt   748,000
10   Rob Stain   740,000

all the best to Bram tomorrow

How has Luca Pagano managed to stay as Team Pokerstars player?

They are dropping far better players right, left and centre and Luca hasn't won anything since Tikay didn't have a bus pass.

Yet, like a dog with a well worn bone, he clings on.

very well connected in Italian Poker, an important market for them...whereas impressions seem to be they are less enthused about the UK in the last 9-12 months

The biggest and richest tournament in all of Europe is on its way back to Monaco. After a one-year hiatus, the PokerStars and Monte-Carlo®Casino European Poker Tour Grand Final is returning to Monaco.

As Season 8 of the EPT draws to a close, the EPT will pack its bags April 23-May 1 for the shores of Monaco. Like all EPT events, the festival will include a wide range of tournaments for all buy-in levels from the recreational player to the big-bankrolled professionals. Highlighting it all will be the €10,000 main event.

The PokerStars and Monte-Carlo®Casino EPT Grand Final, to be staged at the Monte Carlo Bay Hotel & Casino, will cap off another successful season of the EPT. Season 8 has already taken players all over Europe, from London, to Barcelona, to Prague, to San Remo, and to Loutraki, Greece. As players enter the second half of the season, they now know where they'll be ending up for season-ending final.

EPT President Edgar Stuchly said, "This will be the biggest and best EPT festival ever held, and we're putting together an incredible tournament."

For the first time in history, the EPT will host a €100,000 buy-in Super High Roller event on European soil. Running April 23-25, the Super High Roller event should attract the cream of the world's poker crop. It's only been a few weeks since Team PokerStars Pro Viktor Blom took down the Super High Roller at the PCA for more than a million bucks. He's already made plans to show up in Monaco for the High Roller there.

If you happen to be heading in that direction for the tournaments, you can make a full month of it in Monaco. In the weeks before and after the poker festival, Monaco is hosting the Monte Carlo Rolex Masters ATP Tennis (April 13-22), the Monaco Historic Grand Prix (May 11-13) and the famous Grand Prix of Monaco (May 24-27) Formula 1 race.

Pagano leads the field not just in EPT cashes (this is his 20th) or in EPT finals (he's reached six) but also in experience. Since the first ever EPT in Barcelona (in which Pagano finished third) all the way to now, the Team PokerStars Pro has amassed nearly $2 million in live tournament winnings. The next best player in that respect is Marc Inizan of France.

But it has never been about the money, or at least it isn't any more to the poker playing businessman. It's that first EPT title that matters to him, which, after seven and a half seasons of looking, remains difficult to find. It's a point not lost on Pagano but not something keeping him awake at night.

"I won an IPT this summer," said Pagano. "Let's say the drama is over. I will keep trying. It means a lot but it's not going to change my life. I wouldn't change any of my previous results with just one win. I'm happy on the way it went in the past. If it comes in Deauville I'll be happy but if it doesn't happen I'll keep trying next season and for the next 25 seasons."

Pretty much, yep. His Dad is a perfectly lovely chap, very very likeable, who has been very kind to me, especially back in the day. Luca, I get on just fine with him, too. He wears size 14 shoes, you know.

24-year-old Belarusian Vadzim Kursevich has won the 2012 PokerStars.fr EPT Deauville Main Event.

After a slow start , Kursevich absolutely dominated play in the latter half of the day and despite a change in momentum heads-up, the 2011 WCOOP Main Event finalist and EPT Berlin thrid-place finisher, held on to grab the €875,000 first-place prize and his first EPT title.

The day began with Paul Guichard leading, but Kursevich doubled through him with ace-king versus ace-queen early on to move above the 7 million chip mark and knock Guichard down to size.

A rather wild ride followed for Kursevich, as he spent the next few hours moving up and down the leaderboard as easily the most active player at the final table.

Vuong Than Trong busted Team PokerStars Pro Luca Pagano to get things started for him, and appeared to be making a run, picking up a number of pots without showdown to move up to the top of the leaderboard.

He then traded several blows with Kursevich as the two became embroiled in a dead heat for the chip lead. Trong picked up kings and picked off Bruno Jais' ace-queen to send him to the rail soon after and take the outright lead. But after a dinner break, everything changed.

Trong four-bet shoved ace-queen into Kursevich's kings to hand Kursevich the biggest pot of the tournament so far and a 2:1 chip lead on the rest of the table. Kursevich busted Yorane Kerignard next to increase that lead and went into heads-up with better than a 6:1 advantage, after sending Trong out third with ace-jack holding against king-ten.

A handicapped Guichard got lucky double up when his jack-high connected against king-high and the Frenchman suddenly stole all the momentum, winning pot after pot until he pulled almost even. But finally, after Guichard flopped a set and Kursevich turned a flush draw and double gutter, all the money went in the middle and Kursevich rivered a straight to end it all.

Congratulations to Vadzim Kursevich, who can now be called an EPT Champion, as the PokerNews crew says au revoir from Deauville.
