Title: Ethics Question.
Post by: Girgy85 on January 31, 2012, 10:51:20 AM
Your booking a holiday for 3 people in two rooms. You look on a travel site for a quote which comes out £1061pp.

Its pointed out to you that as you have booked 2 rooms that the people in the room of 2 are paying more for the person in the single room.

What do you do? (Your the person in the single room.)

There is no supplement for a single person, they are just sharing the cost of one room cus in the US you just pay for the room irrespective of the number of people sleeping in it.

If her friend looked anything remotely like Mrs AK then that would be an option.

Im sure i wont struggle to find an attractive lady to spend an hour or two with?

Depends.

If its three mates and someone is taking the single as a function of the fact that there are three of you then everyone pays the same.

If you've booked to to away with a couple, single pays more ldo.

If you're with mates then obviously if someone really wants the room to themselves they can pay.

If nobody's bothered then you just flip for it.

If it's with your mum then it's nothing to do with ethics it's to do with how your family works things.

Nobody on here knows how things work in your family so nobody can really help.

I might say to not be such a tight git and don't make your mum subsidise your room. This would be wrong of me however because I know that if I were in the same situation my mum would happily pay for me anyway.

You must have an idea of what your mum would want you to do? Basically just do whatever that is.

If you're staying Flamingo you won't get any cheaper than ringing direct with Harrahs as far as I am aware. Another consideration you can't get your room comped if you book through a third party as you pay upfront.

Book it direct so if mama girgy knocks it on the slots, you do it on blackjack you may well recieve some money off your rooms at the end of the stay.

I'm not sure which is worse...

a) opening your mum's hand bag and taking a crisp £20

b) billing her and her friend a premium for your solo room

c) making the poor dear stay @ Flamingo

do it now then, it's win win

overcharging her for the room won't be half as bad in comparison plus you'll have 20 quid to put towards hookers

Yes no question, I've stayed all over Vegas and there is nothing wrong with the place. In fact I would say its especially suited to the older crowd, my Mum specifically asked to stay there again this trip.

You're not getting it for 300, you are getting it for 720 m8. Your flights are 700 and the rest is per room based on 2 people sharing.

I'll be brutal here.

Right now I can't see anything better than the deal you have.

However - I wouldn't book yet for December. I'd wait. Quite simply because current direct flights are £700+ for your dates and I believe that you can get them down to £500 - £550, maybe even lower by waiting for the sales. The last flight sale only covered up to September 2012 so I assume the next one (probably April time) will cover Nov-Dec.

As for hotels - same thing. Most of the good deals for your dates won't come out for another 5-6 months. Ergo, wait.

If you need the security of booking now then do so and book the deal you have got on Expedia. If you can wait, then I would, and I think a lot of the main knowledgeable Vegas guys would agree.

If you can wait - and MamaG & friend will stay in one of the following hotels, then try this:

Hotels are: Aria, Cosmopolitan, Vdara, Venetian, Palazzo, Wynn. You may get another one that I don't know about but as far as I'm aware, it's these 6.

What you do is as follows: go to priceline.co.uk. This redirects to booking.com and on the right hand side should be a box saying "part of priceline etc" and a clickable link stating "Name Your Own Price". Click this link.

On the new page, click "U.S." and then "Las Vegas". Underneath, select your dates and that you want 2 rooms. Then click "Start Saving".

On this page, click box 9. ONLY BOX 9! This is "Las Vegas Strip Vicinity South". Then click next. (THIS DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY IF YOU CLICK ANY OTHER BOXES THAN 9)

On the new page, click 5 star luxury only. Then put in the amount, per night, you are willing to pay for each room. This number is in POUNDS, not dollars. Note - this does not include the dreaded resort fee. Scroll down and put the name of the person who is PAYING for the room (presenting the Credit Card to the hotel) into the boxes for the rooms. Click next.

Review your request - make sure the amount per night is correct, the dates, and the area. Then initial and click next.

Next page is fill in the card details. If a hotel accepts your bid they will charge your card immediately. No refunds. Theoretically, the hotel should be one of the following: Aria/Cosmo/Vdara.

If they don't accept, you can only bid again if you modify your area. This time, just add box 7 to it. That brings in Venetian/Palazzo/Wynn.

Keep bidding, twice total per 24hrs, until you get a price you are happy with.

I used this myself to get the Vdara for £45 per night plus tax.

Book the hotel now and if something better comes up you can cancel and rebook on the new deal. If nothing better comes up then you've got the best of it, you only have to pay 1 night on booking and the rest upon checkout.

You can make more rebids than this in the 24hr timespan, using the "free" rebid strategy.

In this case las vegas there are 12 options and only 3 have 5* hotels in those areas. Those being 7,8 and 9.

So you can have a rebid by simply entering 1 of the other areas without a 5* hotel in it and bidding again on 5*. As it is impossible to get a 5* hotel in those areas. You can do this until you have exhausted those areas. So in this case 11 bids a day.
