Title: Teeth Whitening
Post by: TheChipPrince on February 01, 2012, 10:02:31 AM
Random I know.

My g/f wants this done, she has for a while to be fair, as is not just a phase.  I've tried to ignore her but she keeps hinting.

I know nothing about it except:

a)  I assumed it was expensive
b)  You get some horror stories as per with these things

Now Groupon today, for Chester, have a £349 treatment at £59 with these guys www.whitespa.co.uk

The website looks a bit cheap to me, but ok.

Is it worth it?  Results usually decent?

Any advice/help appreciated.

I know someone who had laser treatment to whiten her teeth. The result was great but she can't drink coffee or Red wine. £500, now how much wine can you get for £500 I say.

Sounds like a bargain price, as long as she doesn't then sign up for anything else.

I love how every actor in Hollywood is orthodontics mad these days.

You get someone playing the part of a bum or a wino. Unwashed face, ingrained with years of filth, clothes hanging in rags, hair long and matted, perfect set of bright white teeth.

You can get pretty decent DIY kits, with gel and an activator light. You need to be a little careful how you use it to avoid hurting your gums, plus the EU went a bit mental for a while over bleach levels in imported kits sold on the web. I guess when you pay for someone else to do it they take really good care in avoiding your gums.

Don't understand the red wine/ coffee bit, they stain obviously, but why more of a bother now?

I got mine done with the mouth guard and the gel, it did a decnt job. You just have to remember that with any teeth whitening, especially the laser one they are basically stripping a layer of enamel ofF your teeth and it might leave them really sensitive. It's ok for most but I can think of at least 2 people that wish they didn't have it done because of that, and you cant reverse it once it's done.

Exactly that, red wine and coffee would stain them pretty quick after spending £500.

Also, the whitened teeth pick up stains more quickly than before (because that protective covering of enamel has gone)

I think Tracey Dell does teeth whitening in her clinic, so she is probably the best to advise.

Be careful to go to the correct treatment room, if you go there though, as when she says 'open wide', you may get a bit of a shock!!!

My mate owns a teeth whitening company and uses Groupon.  The deal is good but standard with Groupon, there will be no extras.  The DIY kits are pish but ok to use after the treatment for a topup,

I had mine done a couple of years ago in Goa, cost around £80. I was happy with the result.
Dont think you will always get that " Hollywood Smile " though. The dentist will take a reading on your present teeth shade and the whitening process only lightens them by around 2-3 shades of their present colour.
Also tell her to use a sensitive toothpaste for a couple of weeks prior which your dentist can prescribe, to help with a longer whitening process from the laser.
If her teeth are too sensitive she may not be able to go with a long enough time for the best results.
They only advise to avoid red wine and cigarettes for a few days after, whilst the pores in your teeth are still exposed.

BTW most of the Hollywood stars dont  have teeth whitening , they have teeth veneers or caps
