I recently opened a bet365 account because of their very generous 100% match bonus up to £200

I deposited £200 and placed 2 horsey bets of £40 and £40ew which returned a total of £30

I've just tried to place 2 more £40ew bets and my limits have been dropped to £3 and £3.33 for the 2 horses!!!

Seriously?!?!? Already?!?!?!? Am I looking too dangerous after only losing 3/4 of my first bet?

The really annoying thing is that to release the £200 bonus you have to bet through it 3 times. How the fuck am I supposed to do that at 3 quid a pop?!?!?!?

Ok so I've tried the "max bet" button on the 5.20 at Wolverhampton

It appears that whatever horse I try to get on the maximum win I'm allowed is £30

On the 7.20 at Dundalk it's £10

This can't possibly be the same for everybody so it looks like the max applies to everyone but it's on all customers accounts.

I have always had this problem with 365.  The one firm that i have never ever had a run of any kind with.  My experience was always the same as Matts.  I would imagine you in, advertently, hit upon a horse they had been warned to be very careful about but even so it is absurd.

Its not that absurd really is it? I'll put 100 a day in your bank account and you give me 120 a day in my account. You are sharp men with something about you, surely you understand the reverse would be more absurd?

I'm very surprised you are taking this viewpoint tbh. When I worked at skybet I was disgusted when they failed to give customers a chance when they had a proven winning record of at least a few months, never mind having only placed 2 bets which didn't even win!!!

So many people donate huge amounts on the casino, so many "priority customers" donate huge amount at sports betting (I've seen this first hand), why won't they give someone a chance to place a few bets before they judge them as a customer?

I don't know what I would say to him if I worked in the Bet365 call centre and he rang up and I could only offer him £2EW on a 10/1 shot when he opened the account yesterday, which is what may well happen. How embarrassing for the operator, the customer and the company as a business.

Tend to agree with Brent.  It is one thing closing or restricting a punter after 100 bets where they have shown a winning record but another thing restricting a punter after two £30 bets.  Afaik Matt isn't a big winning punter is he and they certainly don't have anything like enough of a record with me to be able to ascertain that.  I can presently bet exactly zero online on them on the New York Giants +3 4/5.  They could currently have at least £250k on the Giants elsewhere +3 @ 5/6 or bigger so why will they lay me nothing at all?  How is that anything other than cowardly?

It's all about the bottom line for bookies nowadays. If you can only take bets from mugs, and turn away anyone who would have a lifetime win of even £1 then it's better for the company.

The computerised databases and player tracking means that they can more accurately identify who is a winner and which new accounts are likely to be winners and they want those guys to go somewhere else.

They are the worst company I have ever dealt with. Closed my account 2 years ago .

I understand that but I don't see how in that example taking the bet is a negative proposition for them.   Worst case scenario is take £100 @ 4/5 and bet that £100 @ 1.83 with their neighbouring company and win £3.33 if the bet wins and nothing if it loses.  Assuming that is roughly a 52% chance they have an expectation of £1.73 for a minutes work.  It is a question of degrees really.  I am not capitalised £1bn or whatever 365 are but I will happily take £1k at their prices on the Superbowl for the main markets from anyone on Blonde.  

You will be able to get bigger stakes on in the last 5 mins before the off on the bigger races (normally £100/£200 win limits for big saturday races/ cheltenham etc)

I am not a winninng punter on 365 but they are a firm I find it very hard to get any sort of decent bet on with.

I opened up an account 2 years ago to take advantage of one of their bonuses, it turned out I got on a few horses at fancy prices that as the day went on had dramatically decreased in price both with the bookies and on the exchanges.  We never did a win but the horses ran well and the money looked well placed a few days later I tried getting a bet on when they were best priced on an event and I was able to get £2.77 on.  I lolled and closed the account without clearing the bonus and vowed never to use them again. 

So you're saying it was just a massive mis-read by Bet365 in this case?

Is it possible that it's to do with those people identified as bonus chasers (i.e. they offer a £200 match bonus and flag the accounts that deposit exactly £200, which to be fair you'd expect most of them to do)?

If so, it's not disimilar to the online casinos a few years back when they had +EV deposit bonuses and playthroughs (sometimes with autoplay too).

Otherwise, it does seem ridiculous.

The thing that really gets me is the way they allowed a couple of £40 bets on day 1.

If they'd restricted me on day I could fully understand but they let me lose £80 then restricted me.

I've just tried to get on another bet and was restricted to £3 again.

I've tried several other sports and it looks like they don't want to risk any more than about a tenner of their money against me.

The account has £310 in it of which £200 is bonus money.

I need to bet another £20 or so to release the £200 bonus. Once that's released I'll withdraw what's there but I still have £200 to play with.

The thing about bookies restricting punters so quickly is they are restricting alot of mug punters as well as shrewdies (not saying Matt is a mug!)

Vegas casinos went through a period about 10-15 years ago of banning alot of players who won at blackjack because they thought they were card counters.

But they realised two things after a while:

1. Alot of regular gamblers stopped playing with them because they felt if they won they would be thrown out (and if the casino was happy to take their action they must be a mug)

2. They were banning far too many players - lots were just regular players pressing up after a win streak.

Now, as long as you aren't greedy and try to win fortunes you can get away with being a card conuter very successfully in Vegas. They hardly ban anyone in the big casinos (Bellagio, Wynn, Venetian etc)

Just hope one day very soon bookmakers in this country will realise the same thing.

I agree with this entirely. It doesn't seem very clever of them to place such immediate restrictions.

Agree totally.  The biggest and most successful bookmakers in the world all take bets from sharp punters to a certain extent and when I was a bookie we tried wherever possible to try and give the punter some kind of a bet.  On occasions that might have been £25 e/w on a pricewise horse first thing in the morning but at least they got something and we, in return, knew that they would call us first  when they were trying to get a bet.  Most punters that win are only shrewd in one sport or they tend to have leaks where the bookie can be profitable.  Fore example there is literally no chance at all that I will not have a bet on the superbowl tomorrow night.  Some of the more obscure props I would expect to have a slight edge in but the pointspread and total are pretty much unbeatable imo yet I will still have a daft £50 on.  Bookies should have their license revoked if they are unwilling to take a bet on those markets.  Similarly Premiership football, Grand National, Derby, etc etc.  One thing is for sure when I have those interest bets they will go to the bookies that provide a service during the rest of the year.

On a slightly different note I thought when poker was first introduced to these online sportsbooks that if you were a big raker on their poker site then you would be much more likely to get a decent bet with them but when Ladbrokes first started I used to play on their site a fair bit and it didn't make the slightest difference to my betting limits.  I would have thought it would make good sense to keep those guys in play even if there was a slight effect on the players overall profitability.  Interesting question for Tikay perhaps - if one of your top rakers got all of their sports bets knocked back to £5 yet was regularly sitting at 10-12 the Sky Poker cash tables and threatened to leave because of it would it make a difference at all or can you simply not get involved? (obviously I understand you may not want to answer this but I have no agenda)

Latest development.

Apparently if I withdraw any money from the account I lose the bonus.

I currently have £291 in there of which £200 is bonus money.

In order to claim the bonus I have to play through it 3 times. I can't start this though until I lose the other £91.

So basically in order to get £200 you have to lose £200. Nobody who is a winner will ever be able to get their bonus.

If you bet the £93.77, after that bet has been settled you should find your £200 in free bets.

Well thanks to the last minute Fraser tip I now have quite a healthy balance.

Interestingly the amount in the account is now greater than the amount needed to unlock the bonus!!

Seems to me after watching Matt go through all this hassle, makes more sense to deposit without entering a bonus code and just place your bets.  If you're truly a shrewd punter, a £200 bonus is hardly worth it if they're going to restrict you so much after the deposit.  You'll make more money off your own unrestricted bets than you'd gain from their wee bonus.

Brief update for the fans of this thread.

I'm still placing little bets on the horses as an experiment to see how far they'll push the limits.

Just had a 12/1 winner which returned £14.11 off the 83p ew they allowed.

They usually allow £30 wins but that one was lower for some reason.

Account currently at £293.66 so £30 profit since I cleared the bonus. It's not much but if a bet's value then it's value at £100 or 83p so I'm having as much as I can.

I've got a mate who is pretty loaded, and a bit of a mug punter.

Not totally muggy, he will look at oddschecker and take best price about his selection, but basically only bets when he is going to be watching on tv and doesn't put much thought into his picks.

Anyways, he's had a credit account with one big bookie for years.

By his estimation he has lost about £250,000 to them in the last ten years.

I gave him a few horses to back last week and he had a couple of winners, £250 on a 8/1 shot and £100 on a 20/1 chance.

He won £4000. Less than 2% of he's lost.

He got the letter saying his account was closed today.

Absolute scumbags.
