I'll be there today. Season ticket holder at Hillsborough.

We've been shocking for the last month and much as I hate saying it United at 7/4 are great value.

Given the state of the table this must be one of the biggest derbies we have had for years.

I'm embarrassed for the City of Sheffield that we have two teams in League One. I'd hate the Blades ever to get into the Premier League or win owt else.

It is embarassing to see two Sheffield teams in League one.

It was a poor game and suprisingly United played straight into Wednesday's hands.

I hate to say it as a Wednesday fan but United are a better side (they have a much bigger player salary budget this season) particularly with a player like Evans who is class at this level.

United should comfortably go up in second unless Huddersfield can put a run together.

We've just got to win the play offs!!

His old man is the Wednesday goalkeeping coach.

Not sure we can go up automatic, Charlton must be a lock for the title, with Sheff U the best team out of us 3 unfortunately.

Charlton
Sheff U
Hudds
MK Dons
Wednesday
?

I reckon.

Title: Re: sheffield derby
Post by: aaron1867 on February 28, 2012, 10:38:33 PM
Charlton are out of sight and I don't think anyone is catching United either.

Although United in my view have a lot tougher fixtures than Wednesday, so I still think we have a little chance of sneaking 2nd. United still have to play Stevenage & MK away from home, whilst Wednesday only have to play Hudds, whilst Hudds have to play Charlton and Wednesday.

I do think that it will be Charlton and United though.

Also, people say PO's are a lottery, but I think Hudds and Wednesday are both a lot better than Stevenage and MK. Even though Wednesday did lose to Stevenage twice! But we most definitely outplayed MK both times.

Megson had one of the top win to game ratio's of the last 60 years of our managers. I know that Mandaric has been approaching other managers in the last couple of weeks - and not the one's mentioned above. One in particular has just got another job ;-)

Post by: RickBFA on March 01, 2012, 11:40:51 AM
If McCarthy has come to a financial settlement with Wolves I can see him being offered the job.

3/1 at the moment.

He would be the best short term fit given Wednesday's style of play currently.

No point in trying to change that style with 13 games of the season left.

Not giving Megson until the end of the season is a joke - although the football is ugly he would certainly have them up for the play off's - he's shown in the derbies that he can get the players motivated.

But then it's MM who is the chairman and he has form for this sort of thing doesn't he.

You've not seen the players week in, week out  :)

They are of limited ability - trying for example to get them to play a passing game would be suicidal. Teams like MK Dons and Huddersfield would tear them apart.

Bear in mind it is only the last month where the wheels came off against teams like Exeter and Chesterfield - for the rest of the season the style has worked.

It's more about a new manager changing mindsets and confidence levels than changing styles at this critical point in the season.

Title: Re: sheffield derby
Post by: Josedinho on March 01, 2012, 12:27:15 PM
Something needs to, and will change. If we're talking about style as in how direct we are it probably won't change a great deal but tactically we need to be tighter at the back.
I think Megson built a team good enough to compete for promotion but based around a player we didn't own. We have less talented players than the pigs and Huddersfield but were definitely competing on their level. We lost a player key to the way we play and didn't really have a back up plan. It's possible that with Antonio coming in we may have improved but Milan didn't want to find out.
It's his money, he saved us, I don't think I can grumble too much even though I think the timing was bad.

I agree with your viewpoint hence my 'whether it's right or wrong' caveat

my point being isn't mandaric's viewpoint that the style needs to change? so that would make it less likely that he'd bring in someone to do the same things as before. I think he's abs crazy

It could get very interesting.

Sheff Utd now have 4 away games out of the next 5. They have a couple of injuries including MacDonald in midfield who was a big influence and now have suspensions coming up with 2 sent off today.

If Wednesday, Huddersfield or MK Dons put together a run of 4 or 5 straight wins, things could look dramatically different.

It was that awkward, Huddersfield ended up losing more ground on Wednesday and United.

Huddersfield (4th) 2-2 Rochdale
Sheff Wed 3-0 Bournemouth
Brentford 0-2 Sheff utd

It's definitely going to be a Sheffield team in second mate, just don't know which one.

Agree, but can't see us scoring 4 to be quite honest.  We knocked in 7 against 2 teams who are very poor and was at home for those and before that we was actually struggling to score.

This is most definitely the toughest game of League One to predict this weekend, so I'll go for 3-2 either side to win.

I didn't expect us to be beating County, but it sounds as if we was pretty comfortable! And United dropped some simple points, absolute brilliant.

We still have some tough games left away to Colchester, Brentford and Huddersfield.

heard about this a couple of weeks ago but hoped it would all be sorted behind closed doors, apparently not though. it seems this season has a little twist

From The Sunday Independent……………………………..

Quote
Charlton Athletic may miss out on automatic promotion from League One this season due to a bizarre administration error at the clubs offices earlier this month. Club secretary Chris Parkes explained the circumstances after the Addicks 2-0 victory over Leyton Orient at the Valley yesterday. “Jordan Cousins who turned 18 earlier this month had his registration with the FA for the current season mixed up with Jordan Butler who is a member of our womens team, managed by former player Paul Mortimer ” explained Mr. Parkes “ This error has been brought to our attention by the FA after Jordan (Cousins) represented the Charlton Athletic first team in a Kent Cup semi-final against Dartford during the past week. The FA have told us that he was registered on forms for the Womens League and that Jordan Butler has been registered on first team forms.”
The mistake will by FA rules result in a 5 point deduction for playing a non-registered player in a Football Association competition, as the Kent League is affiliated to the FA. Charlton will hear officially about the imposed punishment on Monday morning but expect to appeal. Queens Park Rangers won the Championship last season, under threat of points deduction and didn’t know their fate until the last game of the season, Charlton may well follow this season not knowing if they will be forced into the lottery of the play-offs due to problems over the registration of a player.

 :D

Bit suprised United have bottled it but then their recent history is littered with bottling play off finals and critical games (Wigan at home last day of premiership).

Looking forward to almost 40,000 Wednesday fans being at Hillsborough next weekend - just hope we don't screw it up from here.

Stuff like that really tilts me. Don't know how it's better to think/abuse pigs by saying we're above them because an ex wednesday player and manager has purposely made them fail. Much prefer to say it's because we're better than them.

That is good to be fair, I would like to say we have blown it but if the Owls do nick it at the last minute then they will have deserved it after that finish to the season, will be pretty tilting to win at the weekend, get 92 points and not even go up.

Just heard I got a ticket for the party on Saturday - just the long jrny up to Sheff either Train or Car
Should be a good atmosphere like the Norwich game a few years back when Hillsborough was full
Come on!!!!

I just hope no one assumes it's done and dusted.

Strange things happen in football and Wednesday never do anything the easy way.

I'm nervous.

Who would have thought United would throw away a 4 point lead and big goal difference advantage which they had only 2 games ago?

Long shot but any spares let me know - harder to get players to give up their free tickets for big games!

Niall Ranger reveals a "I am a changed man" message on his  shirt after he scores.

Anyone want to give me a price he gets arrested again in 2012?

Might be strange to say but GL to the Blunts in the Play Offs - Don't think they will go up but it would be nice so we have 2 BIG games next year and 6 points

hahah can't believe that I've missed this thread!

Still can't decide whether to support the blunts in the playoffs. It's hilarious they have Stevenage again, in the short term we would like it go wrong for them, but in the long term probably have to acknowledge that we want them up with us.

Really feel that the winner of the playoffs will be the winner of the Blades vs Stevenage tie

Huddersfield win the play offs imo. Did want Stevenage up as their point against Ched FC really helped us out but then I realised it would have helped more if they didn't spank us in the league so not that bothered now.
