Title: THE Cheltenham Festival Tipster Competition Post by: MereNovice on March 07, 2012, 12:48:53 PM Edit: Spreadsheet link added.
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Aia1Hxq-NDNWdDdiODJoaGJ2dTlVcVRrODAxeU1uRVE Following extensive market research and deliberation by an esteemed committee of experts, I am pleased to announce this year's Blonde Cheltenham Festival Tipster Competition. (see: http://blondepoker.com/forum/index.php?topic=56945.0) The rules are as follows: 1. Entry is open to everyone upon payment of a £25 entry fee to me. I will PM my bank details to everyone who has expressed even a remote interest (see next post). Payment must be received by me before mid-day on Tuesday 13th March. If you are interested, please indicate below or PM me. 2. The competition will be run over the 28 races from Tuesday 13th March to Friday 16th March 2012. 3. Each entrant will pick one horse per race. The selection must either be for a £2 win or a £1 each-way bet. Winnings will be settled on the basis of Starting Prices. If you select a non-runner it will be counted as a £2 win bet on the favourite (lowest racecard number if there are joint/co favourites). Anyone not making a selection will forfeit their stake in that race. 4. The place component of an each-way bet will be decided using the following criteria: 1/4 the odds for a place for each horse officially returned on the results for each race on www.gg.com 5. I will be using www.gg.com for the purpose of deciding the result of each race. 6. Entries must be sent to me via PM by mid-day on the day of the races. I will then make everyone's selections available via a spreadsheet to which I will post a link on this thread by 1pm that day. 7. The winner will be the person who makes most profit (or least loss) over the course of the festival. 8. My decision is final in all matters (until proven otherwise). Have fun. I'm in Ireland and when I try to transfer (from Bank of Ireland) it asks me for the payees name, full address, sort code, account no, bank name and bank city. I'm not sure why it wants the extra info beyond name, sort code, account number and understand if OP was reticient about giving me his home address (especially if he lives somewhere really crappy :D). Failing the above, can someone else bank transfer to OP and I'll send to them via Pokerstars (I'll send first obv)? Stop trying to encourage Dubai to have 50/60 lines. You are close, but no cigar. I was thinking of having a few entries - & bear in mind I have no chance of winning - just to sweeten the prize pool up a bit. I might send Mr Flushy & Shallow a note later, too, see if we can get a little bit of added money, or interest. No matter. One of my daft ideas. Must send myself a memo to stop having them! Although the rules do not cover this, I'm going to arbitrarily decide one entry per person. If you'd raised this on the initial "proposal" thread, we could have had a long and reasoned discussion about it. Nice idea though. Hopefully, it will also aid transparency as you will be able to see all the individual selections and results that comprise each tipster's score. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Aia1Hxq-NDNWdDdiODJoaGJ2dTlVcVRrODAxeU1uRVE The first tab labelled "Overall" contains the overall scores for each tipster. The "Tue" tab contains all of today's selections. Hopefully, once I input the results of each race, the scores will update automatically. If there are any errors it will be due to my ignorance and/or incompetence; not due to a desire to defraud any of you. :) If you have any queries/concerns/complaints (relating to this competition) please let me know and I will try to respond to them on this thread. For those of you who share my nerdish tendencies, here's a modified top 5: Tipster Total Score ChipRich 84.00 SP favourite 78.26 typhoon13 76.38 Alverton 74.67 SP favourite 2 72.61 "SP favourite" would have been the score for anyone who picked the SP favourite to win for each of the 28 races and "SP favourite 2" for anyone who picked an e/w bet on the SP favourite in each race. Also, if we had actually placed the bets for the nominated stakes (£2 win or £1 e/w) as per our selections we would have wagered £1,624 and been returned £1,193.56 for a loss of £430.44. Another win for the bookies, then.
