Following extensive market research and deliberation by an esteemed committee of experts, I am pleased to announce this year's Blonde Cheltenham Festival Tipster Competition.

The rules are as follows:

1. Entry is open to everyone upon payment of a £25 entry fee to me. I will PM my bank details to everyone who has expressed even a remote interest (see next post). Payment must be received by me before mid-day on Tuesday 13th March. If you are interested, please indicate below or PM me.

2. The competition will be run over the 28 races from Tuesday 13th March to Friday 16th March 2012.

3. Each entrant will pick one horse per race. The selection must either be for a £2 win or a £1 each-way bet. Winnings will be settled on the basis of Starting Prices.
If you select a non-runner it will be counted as a £2 win bet on the favourite (lowest racecard number if there are joint/co favourites). Anyone not making a selection will forfeit their stake in that race.

4. The place component of an each-way bet will be decided using the following criteria:
1/4 the odds for a place for each horse officially returned on the results for each race on www.gg.com

5. I will be using www.gg.com for the purpose of deciding the result of each race.

6. Entries must be sent to me via PM by mid-day on the day of the races. I will then make everyone's selections available via a spreadsheet to which I will post a link on this thread by 1pm that day.

7. The winner will be the person who makes most profit (or least loss) over the course of the festival.


8. My decision is final in all matters (until proven otherwise).

I'm in Ireland and when I try to transfer (from Bank of Ireland) it asks me for the payees name, full address, sort code, account no, bank name and bank city.
I'm not sure why it wants the extra info beyond name, sort code, account number and understand if OP was reticient about giving me his home address (especially if he lives somewhere really crappy  :D).

Hopefully, it will also aid transparency as you will be able to see all the individual selections and results that comprise each tipster's score.

The first tab labelled "Overall" contains the overall scores for each tipster.
The "Tue" tab contains all of today's selections.

Hopefully, once I input the results of each race, the scores will update automatically. If there are any errors it will be due to my ignorance and/or incompetence; not due to a desire to defraud any of you. :)

Yes.
If you're changing horses mid-stream, it would be easier for me if you re-submit all selections for that day but it isn't crucial.

I said in the rules that I would use the list of "placed" horses from ww.gg.com so that is what I will continue to do.

Very good point.
The level of manual input and associated potential for human error is, most definitely, a weakness in the design.
I'll use the fact that it's the first time I've used Google docs as my excuse.

I'm not convinced that allowing their selections is an advantage over selecting the favourites by default.

Obv i am all for letting people change their picks up until the race, even though i imagine it is a burden on yourself, all i ask is for continuity in the rulings. Even though my pick would have bricked and the fav romped it. wiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
