Had not played for ages before today and this hand came up on one of the tables. opponent is pretty loose playing 58/30 (only 53 hands) and has made some pretty loose calls on the flop, have not seen him make big raises that light, although one occasion he did get all in for around 200BB on the flop with top and bottom pair. I have been playing a little looser than is optimal and had been pretty aggressive, playing 39/32 and have been trying to nick pots when others don't seem interested not always successfully. At this point I am slightly down on the session. In this hand I have a good hand pre and I raise from the cut off. I get 3-bet by my opponent from the BB. He has a 3-bet of 18% at this point and I call as I have position should I be 4-betting with this hand against this player? The flop is really good for my hand so I get it all in after he check raises me, I assume this is fine and is the correct way to play, sorry if this is a really basic question but having not been playing for a while want to ensure I am getting this kind of spot right. You can 4b smaller than pot a lot in these deep spots so that's something you might want to consider. Factors you want to think of are post flop pot/stack ratio (what is most awkward for him, what psr will he make the most mistakes with) and deception. On the flop you just have to go with your hand and can be pretty happy about it.

"generic" wider 3bet ranges from players like this (outside of the natural premium hands he'll 3bet) tend to be broadway rundowns and high card hands which this hand plays super super well against. Rob's point about the 4bet sizing is a good one, bearing in mind that every 5bet from him is pretty much defo going to be pot, so our sizing options are basically to leave 0.8, 1.5x or 3x pot left. I think with our specific hand (AK high) we'll do better to make the pot as big as possible preflop vs a range that is dominated and never folding, if we had a weaker high card hand I think we'd do well making it smaller PF as we'll make less equity mistakes when we have to fold post-flop. |
